This is why I couldn’t live in Vegas. ”AND STOP STARING AT ME WITH THAT BIG OL EYE!”

I hope everyone here likes foreign works (then again, we are partially an anime forum) because holy hell. We are so getting that All Rounder Meguru series with Netflix money to replace Cobra Kai.

Let’s see the Suicide Squad top this.

I still have no idea why AMC bought Sentai. Even with their weird lineup of shows, they seem happy to let it operate as its own thing. No one has even suggested HIDIVE join AMC+, which is especially surprising given how big a train wreck AMC+ is. They don’t have any plans to air the programs on their linear channel, and I don’t see an AMC produced Oshi no Ko series airing anytime soon.

IIRC it ended when Manga Entertainment itself threw in the towel on business as a whole, since them (and Viz) were the main suppliers. There was a point where they were airing Gurren Lagann and Gundam 00 and were legit competition…then the recession hit and anime sales as a whole were down, not picking up again until streaming came into its own. So we never did get to see Monster finish its run. If an ASA/Toonami competitor besides Ani-Monday had a chance, it was before 2016. That’s when the migration to streaming services began in earnest, along with Netflix pushing anime next to other shows as a reason to get their service. After that point, it was kind of unnecessary. Linear channels continue to shed viewers for everything that isn’t a live event or sports programming. And that trend doesn’t seem to be reversing any time soon.

Considering SAG-AFTRA is going on strike tomorrow if their concerns about AI aren’t addressed, I’d wager “not well.”

It’s the 11th hour and barring some major breakthroughs, SAG-AFTRA will strike and possibly ruin SDCC.

Coincidentally or not, every major animated Superman series starts with him fighting robots. The Fleschier shorts have the Mechanical Monsters, the Ruby Spears series’ first episode is him fighting Lex Luthor’s vigilante robots, the Defendroids, and STAS’s pilot movie has Malcom McDowell steal a robotic powered armor and use it to fight Superman. Funny little legacy.

These days they split the order in half and call the second half “Season 2.” Makes the show seem more successful. Velma wouldn’t have justified a second season otherwise.

One last, super ultra nit picky point of contention. They’re doing an anime ED, but with generic music. You’re Warner. You can spring for a song that fits better. Hell that one’s OWNED by Warner Music Group!

superman All-Star Superman on ACME Night Discussion
Jman replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
This movie is amazing, and the comic book it's based off of is iconic. It's also sadly one of the last animated works Dwayne McDuffie did before he died. -
If Zack Snyder is that fan of shounen and seinen anime who loves the violence (and he kind of is, by his own admission he directly referenced Birdy the Mighty Decode for the final battle in Man of Steel and has repeatedly said he would be down for directing a Dragonball movie) then My Adventures with Superman are fangirls who are more interested in shipping and find the male gaze offensive while having no issue with showing off the himbo stereotype. This is Clark dealing with lower stakes but still notable adventures while mostly focusing on the human element, while someone more in Snyder's wheelhouse would be more about the big fights. It's telling that the show starts with two scenes deliberately designed to thumb their noses at Man of Steel, young Clark saving a car from crashing (which Kevin Costner famously said was a bad thing) and getting a cat out of a tree, the textbook insult Snyder fans throw at a “pussy Superman”. This show brings the Newsboy Legion (and makes some of them girls because Current Year) while Snyder or someone with a similar mindset would have bought in Conduit or Codename: Assassin (the guy who killed the Newsboy Legion in the comics). Also, it's Adult Swim. Get these people real guns. Even STAS used real guns, and when lasers were around they were specifically noted as being prototypes or specialty weapons.

This show was commissioned and green lit before James Gunn took over the DC Cinematic Universe, and he has made it clear he wants to throw everything out and start over, starting with a new Superman film called Superman: Legacy. And James Gunn announced he wants the animated productions to be in continuity with the films, with the first big animated series being Creature Commandos.
-
This show won’t get a second season. James Gunn has been rather adamant he wants a clean slate on all sides when Superman Legacy hits theaters. Even animation will tie into that with Creature Commandos. The Batman gets a pass as an Elseworlds because of how much money it made, and because Robert Pattison was a pretty damn good Batman.

Flamebird is a pretty deep lore cut. It was the identity Jimmy used when he was in the bottled city of Kandor in the Silver Age. Since Kandor had a red sun filter, Clark was Nightwing as Batman while Flamebird was essentially Jimmy playing Robin.
