I think it's understandable to be weary of people who talk about nothing but politics and are really downbeat about it. The key to a good Twitter page is talking about and/or retweeting things you like, but you can still share calls to action for whatever makes you ornery. Our good friend DeMarco provides a good example of that.

Hey, they're actually making Cannon Busters a thing. I wish it ended up on Toonami, but whatever. And then you can watch the show that got a terrible dub based out of Florida. You don't have to binge, but you can watch more than one episode at a time. That's what I often do. There's also the opportunity to watch episodes on consecutive days, or at least less than a week apart from each other, so I sometimes get through shows faster.

Now that the dust has settled on the controversy with the new dub, I... don't think it's a big deal. The complainers have a point with the more literal script, but a lot of this can be chalked up to them being too attached to an old dub that made some questionable changes. This isn't even the first time things like Kaworu's sexuality have been messed with; a later release from ADV made similar changes to their own script. As someone who's never seen Eva (heresy, I know), I mostly care about the new dub being well acted and not having many snafus like the "Third Children" change. I'll get to watching Netflix's treatment eventually, because it must be decent and probably the best we'll get going forward.

We don't know, but considering that Demon Slayer isn't premiering for a few more months, I don't think it replaced anything. This was probably a case of announcing it as the ink was drying. But if gen:Lock is actually coming to the block (nice rhyme), I could see that being a quick and dirty filler to hold SAO's slot.
-
I liked it, but wasn't keen on it either. The show's format did it dirty, as I was not a fan of the repeating episode structure or how the bulk of each one were just "lame anime parodies", as the show itself put it. But it was really good at its most avant-garde. 🥴

Insofar as people are going to enjoy it, yes. It's anime comfort food; sometimes, all people want are the same time-tested tropes presented with all seriousness.

Well I'll be! A show I thought was a reasonable get. Not bad. This show is apparently the most generic, third-rate shonen you can think of... except it looks really pretty. And it's got some gore, so compare it to Attack on Titan if you must, but with worse writing. I watched the first episode and I didn't feel strongly on it, but casual Toonamites will probably lap it up.

I could see the former happening, but due to Togashi's endless hiatuses, probably not the latter. We might never get a conclusive ending to this current HxH arc without outside intervention. More than anything, however, I want to see Toonami avoid diminishing returns and make a show out of something new... ideally a popular manga with untapped adaptation potential, and not the most obvious pick. So how about a Delicious in Dungeon anime?

This is even funnier to me because I read a review of a My Hero Academia episode where the author praised the filler content as fleshing out the show's world. The person who wrote that BC hagiography probably had similar intentions, but they would never be taken seriously no matter what they wrote. All of this comes off as CR wanting to influence which shows become popular in a season, because they have content they're producing which needs to make money, and it results in agendas being set. But this can only go so far... the one article I saw them write about Planet With (making food inspired by the show) certainly didn't bolster its standing with American fans.

This is cool, but I think it would have been easier (and cheaper) to have some intern write an article about how this is going to be the best shonen anime evar. A similar tactic worked for Shield Hero.

Just don't mention the FLCL sequels. I think that's why the last promotional push (during last year's NBA playoffs) failed so hard.

There has been a sizable contingent of people who wanted Food Wars to make the block. They might not actually watch it, but you can't knock the show that way. And you know what? I don't care if it's gonna tank the ratings. If this is the start if Toonami adding cheaper shows from non-major franchises, I'm all for it. This ratings dysfunction and shonen overload (which this series admittedly doesn't fix) might be what gets Jason to start picking shows that are actually good over what's popular. That's how the block got the odd unexpected hit like Michiko & Hatchin, which I'm confident the crew can do again.

iM@S CG Theater S4E13 Girls' Last Tour #9 Speaking of actually enjoying things... that GLT was the best episode of anime I've seen this year bar none. This show manages to be so artsy while still communicating great morals without having a stick up its ass. Everyone who thought Planet With was the hot new anime fit for this political era severely missed the mark; it was already here the whole time. Also, if you're not in iM@S fandom, you missed my descent from being rather distressed over those four new characters to kind of liking them to trigger the libs. What a ride. Now I just hope the "climax" part isn't literal and there are going to be more seasons in the future.

I also don't like this thread, but for a different reason: most people in it (but not you) have become the most annoying, Flanderized versions of themselves. It's like I'm reading nothing new. And then you have their brooding cynicism feeling akin to a death cult, which is something I try to avoid. If you watch MHA and don't like the change, DVR it if you can. And do vocally complain, but only in a space where DeMarco and company can hear it. At least the kerfuffle with JoJo's from a little while ago did prove that casual Toonami fans have some say in how the block is handled. I'd much rather we try to work it instead of yelling about death and destruction in an echo chamber. Additionally, while I wish we could stop talking about the ratings, there is merit to discussion if things like this happen. But we should also start enjoying things and not trashing show choices because they're too old. I'm enjoying Lupin Part V so far and want to give Food Wars a try, and I think others should be trying to follow suit.

iM@S CG Theater S4E11 and S4E12 Symphogear S1E2 and S1E3 I also finished the rest of the Squid Girl dub. A few unfitting voices and an inexplicable use of the term "rapist" aside, I really liked it, and I thought the second season was better on a rewatch. I guess that's what it's like when you're not trying to critique it and be funny while doing so. 🙃 [and a cool emoji]

Gundam: The Origin coming to Toonami July 6th
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Woah there... how about we stop worrying about the next show and focus on enjoying what's on now? And why would it be a mistake to announce this show's timeslot first? I'm sure there are many Toonami fans unable to afford one. I mean, Gundam has never been a ratings powerhouse, but I'm shocked they dumped it to the ass-end of the block right away. If anything, it might get a boost in the ratings thanks to DVRs, but that doesn't solve the timing problem. -

LOL, not a good performance for Lupin. However cynical, maybe that one guy saying it should go to 3:00 is right. Part V was one of the most requested shows prior to its premiere. That implies a recent amount of people were watching the last series and made picking up this one financially viable.

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I watched the Lupin III premiere and liked it. It helps that this is a show where I haven't been spoiled on anything, unlike TPN. I also thought it was cool to see the references to the different versions of Lupin at the start... even the Pink Jacket series. It made me wish I'd watched more of the franchise outside of half of Part IV. Oh, and you have to love how they kept the "Everyone in the world is a cop" line for the dub. It sounded very natural and well-acted all around, perhaps because I was looking through the credits and saw that TMS Entertainment basically makes the dub, with multiple Japanese names involved. That made me think about how most of the series dubbed by Sentai I've watched sound more awkward than just about every one from either Funi or L.A. studios, regardless of their personnel. It's especially glaring when you go from the first season of Squid Girl to the second, and it's the worst thing about that particular dub, although I still like it overall. -
