Girls' Last Tour #12 Virtual-san Looking #8

Bokura no Hentai 6-8 Okay, I wasn't expecting this one to be so artsy and obtuse, but I guess that's a running theme in regards to queer manga. They're messy, just like real life. ๐ถ

Now that's the Poke I've always respected and treasured. Nice rant. ๐ I think some of the MAS ratings for Food Wars! are warranted, as they depict people basically orgasming (and explicit sexual content doesn't just have to be frontal nudity), but I do think the show could be rated more judiciously. If they aren't giving it the AgK treatment because another Sentai show is on the way, there's no excuse. And the other MASes are probably mas-sive overreactions. I'm not too jazzed about the state of Toonami right now, but I've drifted away from content ratings a bit and have started looking at the block and how it's objectively run. I hate how some of the current bumps have been continuously used since April, and they probably aren't going to change until at least DB Super ends. But I do still follow the ratings a bit and assign them to every other series I watch... and speaking of that, I should probably get back to my general thread I haven't posted a new review of Log Horizon in for over a year.

Crunchyroll Expo announces two new seasons of Rising of the Shield Hero
Blatch replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
If HGS really does end up not streaming on CR, my hope is that it will find a home elsewhere. That whole controversy could've been avoided if Ellation had decided that a show having more in common with Steven Universe and its ilk, regardless of the inherent quality of anything involved, would do better on VRV proper rather than an anime-oriented subsidiary. gen:LOCK arguably doesn't fit as well, but at least it has the excuse of being much more inspired by the medium. As for Shield Hero... well, as long as its fans aren't enslaving raccoon girls of their own (or blaming the matriarchy for everything, but that's another story), I guess I'm okay with more of it getting made. -
Hot damn. I know this doesn't seem like a sexy announcement, but Ito is basically the name to know in Japanese horror, and he's become a lot more respected overseas over the last few years. The fact that they're putting a series of his on Toonami is pretty cool, and you know it's at least going to be better than the Junji Ito Collection anime that aired last year.

That's a bit too much for me to handle, but okay. ๐ I do agree with the double DBS finale for no reason other than being convenient. After it ends, I actually think they'll move either Black Clover or Boruto up to the front, with the former being more likely. It would be good to have a long runner with no discernible end in sight lead off the block for consistency's sake. Bold move on calling more OPM. But considering that Viz licensed Mr. Osomatsu two years ago and still hasn't put it out on home video, what's to say they won't drag their feet on this one as well. And while OPM was a big franchise... emphasis on "was", because S2 is a big step down and it feels like few care about it anymore. It's tough for me to predict Toonami doing anything with the DST hour when they've let [as] proper use it for two years. This time, I think they'll either continue the theme and air the Tim & Eric movie or squeeze in a full series marathon of Primal, since we now know it's premiering in October.

The first few weeks after Labor Day have usually seen a subtle rise or drop, but there's no consensus towards either. The only exception was in 2015 when the numbers sharply went down, and that had more to do with the historic highs Toonami hit in August. Besides, any ratings decrease is more due to college football. The average student has no reason not to stay up for Toonami, unless they have Sunday classes for some reason. [not me]

The Demon Girl Next Door #5 and #6 PUCHiM@S S1E9-12 Momo's oracle kitty who only says "The time hath come." in a deep voice is really damn cute. I hope we learn more about her and her apparently screwed-up family soon.

It is shonen, but I like having more new stuff on the block that's objectively good. Now if only we hadn't exhausted all of its praises and were forced to talk about schedule optics to pad out the thread. ๐ (FWIW, my Xfinity cable guide shows a 8/31 schedule without Dr. Stone and lacking episode titles, so I don't know for sure)

Marvel is a company that's used to trotting out multiple movies (and big ones, of course) per year. It's how they've operated for more than a decade now. It also helps that they've slowly ramped up production, from six movies over the course of 2008-12 to six movies in just over the last eighteen months. F&F can also be relied upon for putting out a movie every other year. But for a franchise that went much longer between films until 2016, it's easy to be overwhelmed at the thought of movies in consecutive years. There's not much else I can say about this, so I guess I'll just start to sympathize with your point (as shown when I quickly edited my last post). TLJ probably did turn some people off on Star Wars, but I doubt the franchise is going anywhere anytime soon.
-
It's easy to be disillusioned by the divisions in a fandom as large as Star Wars, but at the end of the day, you don't have to feel a connection to what anyone else says. Some people like the direction the franchise has taken for the same reasons others (like Daos) think it's ruined, and yet all of these opinions are valid. We just mustn't be rude about it. TLJ's controversial nature might be part of why its franchise has hit the skids, but I stand by my original point that overexposure is also to blame. Maybe if Disney wanted to make more SW stuff because they knew there were cool stories to be told in its galaxy, rather than weaponizing it as a means to try and swallow up the whole American film industry, some of the divides among fans would be healed.
-
But you think the franchise screwed itself because they messed up how space battles work. There are lots of other people who kindly disagree and/or don't care, so the least I can do is trail off on that point. ๐ There's no telling how well The Rise of Skywalker will do, but I think people will be more willing to go see it after a small break from the franchise and it'll do very well. It might even make over a billion dollars (let alone as much as The Last Jedi), and any major IP would kill for that kind of success.
-
As far as I'm concerned, Star Wars is still a big franchise. It's just that being slightly less successful than before is interpreted as a cue that the sky is falling, when it's mostly just capitalists being mad they can't pad out their gluttonous ledgers. Don't think like that. I do agree with the point in the article about there being too much Star Wars shit. For a franchise that will have as many movies in four years as it did in its first twenty-five, it's easy to get burned out. We've hit peak Star Wars! No wonder Disney is cutting back on it a bit, whether it be movies, cartoons, or whatever else. Maybe you should take a break from ingesting all of these cynical takes about how the franchise is ruined forever, because there's still a lot of it to enjoy.

I had a feeling this would happen ever since Sony snapped up Funi. It's nice to see more anime on non-Toonami TV. I already saw Broly in the theater, but I might DVR the My Hero Academia movie for whenever I'm bored.
-
It's a joke, ya dingus. Although I guess it'd be interesting to see a manwha adaption on Toonami. I'm seeing people use this as proof of the alleged anti-Toonami conspiracy on Funi's end. Although I know what the latter could gain by censoring some pretty innocuous fanservice, I (still) don't believe it. And let's face it: based on various things DeMarco has said in the past, he could be lying.
-
I saw that! It's pretty remarkable to see a show trend without the promotional might of the licensor at play... although I guess someone at Aniplex could've paid off a Twitter staffer to give their hot new Korean cartoon a pop. This week's ratings look nice, although gen:LOCK is having the kind of decreases that'll make someone at the /co thread whip up another negative DeMarco meme. But it's also (presumably) free to air due to being under Warner's dominion, so I think it's reasonable it could be doing just as well as AoT S3.

Woah, nice picture. PUCHiM@S S1E1-E4 (partial rewatch) The Demon Girl Next Door #4

Cool, a new thread made without my involvement. I wish there weren't tee that many exclamation points in the title, but you don't have to change it. ๐ The days of great ratings from 2015 seem so long ago, although I'm glass the idea is no longer at the focus. This just goes to show that even DBZ needed the perfect storm to get that high. That episode even managed to outrage the premiere of Rick and Morty the following day! Pretty cool. And it did so with repurposed animation from the 90's, albeit with some scant new cuts. I think if the halcyon days of 2014-16 are to be remembered for one thing, it's that the block was able to get by with a little bit of everything. You had crowd pleasers like AgK mixed with more obscure stuff that managed to hit (like Michiko & Hatchin) plus not too many of the usual shonen favorites. I don't know what got stuck in DeMarco's craw to break this trend, but I'm glad we're starting to see the variety return.

The best thing I can say about the shooting in Texas was that I didn't let it get to me during Toonami time. I was more interested in winding down and watching some dumb cartoons. It wasn't until news broke of the second one in Ohio that I was mentally knocked over. ๐ And the ratings weren't even that much lower... it's just that gen:LOCK got dealt a bad hand. Some people won't break old habits.

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah, I think Food Wars! almost solely made it to air because of its length. DeMarco might not like the fanservice, but it's a small price to pay for being able to lock down a slot for more than a year. That being said... the fact that every episode has been rated TV-MAS so far (even if it's more fitting than what Akame got) suggests that maybe this show was acquired in a package deal, there's another one from Sentai coming, and it's going to have the S&P treatment done properly. I'd like to see that happen. [content ratings: the revenge] -
While I do appreciate famous people saying they love anime, I feel like it's shallow most of the time. You always hear about athletes (and usually black ones) who got into it from the most basic series like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and whatever else aired on Toonami in the late 90's/early 2000's. There was one NBA player I saw who said he loved One Piece, but that's as far out as I've seen. And even then, it's still a Shonen Jump property. When the hell am I going to see famous boxers and/or wrestlers say they love Megalobox? How come there aren't more actors talking about their favorite iDOLM@STER characters? Is the world not ready for more advanced discussion? Oh, and just so I'm not necrobumping this thread, we got an update: they will be cutting some stuff. Nice job to Brian for the pop. ๐

It's definitely unfortunate. And the KyoAni fire was a big enough story to make some national news outlets (CBS aired a report of it on TV), so even some casual fans might know about it and recognize that something went wrong. Still, I don't think this will affect how well it does, because it's a good and popular show in its own right. I do wonder about the color-changing fire. I don't see America and Japan getting separate versions because that would be too much work, but they might go back and change it to the natural colors for the Blu-ray releases. Or they could leave it in, because for all we know, it'll look cooler. ๐ฎ
