I haven't watched anything on Toonami since Made in Abyss S2 ended, and that was a while ago. Funnily enough, I'm more interested in rewatching FLCL Progressive via the marathon than getting to my DVR recordings of Unicorn, my disinterest in the latter simply because I've heard other people say it's mid. And I didn't even bother to tape Superman. So yeah, it's been a slow year even by the usual standards of the post-COVID era.

I would say they'd do it next time Pete Smith Day rolls around, but they're apparently going to be losing Bob's Burgers soon. Maybe if they ever need to do an American Dad! marathon, they'll resort to that.

I work 8-5 five days a week, but at least I get Monday and Tuesday off. I thought about the block's beginning today, though I was out at 5:00 for other matters and wasn't interested once I got home. I'll have to do all of you a solid one of these days, as even back in the day I didn't watch these shows much.

I will, but only via my DVR. I kind of wanted to tape Progressive this week, but eh, it's the weaker of the two FLCL sequels and the one I'm not as keen on revisiting. And when it comes to 9/9, I'll be ponying up for da Grunge, and maybe even livetweeting it.

Hey, here's an idea: if Toonami's gonna air something from Sentai, how about Reincarnated as a Sword? The show is popular enough that they've actually managed to sell out their initial BD pressing. On top of that, it would help the block finally pop their isekai cherry and I hear it's anti-slavery! I'd definitely make an effort to watch this one if it popped up, and I'm normally averse to isekai.

We decided this was probably the case a while ago, but personally, I don't mind it. It helps that he's seemingly a little less abrasive on here, and either way he provides some critical commentary I thought was missing from this place. Not everything has to be unicorns and rainbows, just as it wasn't back on the ASMB.

The same thing is happening to Spy×Family; in that case, the movie will be an original work, so I wouldn't get your hopes up... or down.

If Crunchyroll is only offering the block one sequel series per year, then that's not a thawing of tensions at all. More like taking the knife out six inches. The thing I always come back to in this regard is Sentai. Is their catalog actually open for business and DeMarco thinks he's too haughty for them, or does AMC have it locked up? I think the former is a lot more likely, but you never know. Either way, we've been talking about this for so long that the only way I can see this changing is if DeMarco is knocked off his perch and someone else takes the programming reins, and even then, that is by no means a guarantee. It's frustrating, and why I'm not as involved in speculative topics on here as much as I used to.

Where'd you hear that? I mean, I'm sort of with you, if only because Toonami couldn't air Dawn of the Deep Soul due to spooky rights voodoo, but I saw the movie and did enjoy it. I wouldn't be surprised if the next MiA anime is a movie, since the arc the series is on right now doesn't have a lot of material to cover.

I think it does belong over there, simply because this thread is a holdover of when the Other Anime and Toonami folders on the ASMB had different clientele, but everyone in the OA folder wanted a place to discuss Toonami. Just because Trunks has been gone for ages and they or other departed members wouldn't raise a stink doesn't mean we should upend tradition. I mean, I kind of am, but on the other hand, I do like the idea of the Toonami folder having an all-purpose thread for discussion to placate the old-timers. It's been just Poke and Empress for a while now, though if I was watching any of Toonami live right now and was interested in more than one show I would join in. Would be nice to have other people either way. So you can do what you want with it for now.

Then hopefully they keep airing it two at a time, unless you think that's a bad end too.

DeMarco has confirmed the MHA rerun will be staying. Gotta love the fact that you can never tell if something is intentional or an error nowadays. So how does that play into your theorizing? I do agree with you that double Shippuden is probably keeping a seat warm for Uzumaki.

Doesn't change the fact that we'll soon be down to only three premieres, but nice.

Tssh. Hopefully, given that they're finally airing the first batch of FLCL sequels again, they'll finally start Primal from S1 this time.

Ah nuts, you beat me to it. I thought Zaslav might've partially written off those rights, meaning they couldn't air on TV but streaming was safe, but this suggests otherwise. What gives? Maybe they have to pay extra for these, but if that were the case, they wouldn't be doing these marathons. Let's see what wild theorycrfafting everyone else can come up with.

Indeed it was, if only for the fact that they had just about every type of show in terms of popularity airing, from great catalog titles to the obligatory megahit premieres. Not to mention the stylistic variety, which soon got stamped out in favor of Shonen Jump the whole way down.

It was a decade ago tonight when, after having subsisted on a diet of mostly dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh!, I decided to break into the big leagues and willingly watch Toonami. And yeah, my reason for this was Sword Art Online. Just like everyone else! At the time, I had no idea what an ASMB was or how it and its successor forum would alter my brain chemistry. Here's what the bumps looked like back then: TOM 5 actually looks weird to me now. A little too clean and shiny (but perversely, with some scratches), and the proportions look off. But I think he's cool, and the 2013-era packaging is still gritty as hell. So getting back to the main topic, my mom ended up catching me watching anime in the middle of the night, which was hardcore behavior for 15-year-old me. I mean, it's about as hardcore as I've ever done, sorta pulling all-nighters. Back then, Toonami was an odyssey of animation. I started off going to sleep for a little while before Toonami (though I've gone looking through files I saved that night, and it might not be the case; I presumably got about 45 minutes in), but in one case it caused me to miss a huge chunk of the episode. I eventually got into the habit of staying up and either watching the shows that came on before SAO or doing something else. Good thing I eventually caught on and started watching other shows. And then I started actively chatting during them, which lead to a lot of debauched fun on Twitter and elsewhere circa the mid-2010s. Ironically, some of my exploits had to do with one guy's overbearing love for SAO to the point of blocking people who shat on it. Glad I eventually became neutral on the franchise, though it's not like I'm willing to go to bat for it nowadays. I even tried to get back in via Alicization, though I only watched the premiere before I went back to saying that Log Horizon is better in spite of having not watched it in years. I don't even know if that's true. Now, since this post feels a little weird otherwise, here's an [as] black-and-white bump announcing Toonami's acquisition of SAO. You know, the thing they seemingly don't do anymore? 6769.d.mp4 Well, both of them. Funnily enough, it doesn't mention Toonami at all. Wonder how many people here know that there was a time where they did this? It happened with Soul Eater, too. Sadly, I am not currently watching anything on this accursed block (I haven't even bothered to tape My Adventures with Superman, even after learning people actually enjoy it), and my livetweeting (or is it live-Xing now?) skills are washed up, but hey: I'm glad this block is still around and blowing minds on an... occasional basis. Maybe FLCL Grunge will do it for someone, I don't know. If nothing else, I'm just glad you are still around, you crazy UEMBers, an amazing oasis in the current reality known as "the Internet is made of four websites, all of which are barely functional", and hopefully this topic has dredged up some of your fondest memories watching Toonami. They probably should've gone for higher-quality animation given that this is a big franchise like FLCL. Then again, you have people saying this shouldn't have been a franchise at all. The story for this one looks like it'll be decent; if nothing else, I want to find out why The Thing is one of the protagonist's friends(?). They also showed some footage for Shoegaze, and even though it's brief and only has music, this one looks way more appealing. I really like the girl's character design; she looks like a flavor of the month.
