rants Haters/Complainers: Legacy of Spleen
DragonSinger replied to mthor's topic in General Discussion
So this is why it's hard for me to just relax and read. So many books with middle-aged suburban white lady all over them. For the love of god, could they learn how to describe characters of Asian descent? It's so much cringe on top of incorrectly using black colloquialisms. And then outside of the Romance genre, I gotta deal with the same but from white middle-aged male authors who still can't write women. If I was in the mood for High Fantasy and Contemporary/Historical Romance, my options of books written by non-white authors would be much higher, but I wanted to blow off some steam with Paranormal Romance that wasn't all just shifters. *Sigh* -
I'm feeling hyyyyype as fuck for the semester

How is it that I've watched a bunch of vampire/supernatural shit on there, but it hasn't suggested Dracula to me? I had to find out about it from Twitter. What the fuck is up with their algorithms? -

Y'all be some shady ass motherfuckers, I swear! -
That was the point, and I was procrastinating. Finishing The Punisher S1 is now my current distraction, so carry on with the main topic. Since The Witcher is new to me, I'm looking forward to how Geralt and Ciri interact in the next season. I really hope for some The Hound/Arya vibes from them.

Or I know the industry instead of spouting some reddit-level bullshit on a messageboard.

Wuss.

Your first season sausage fest would have tanked. Fantasy shows are very hard to get off the ground, and Game of Thrones pissed in the pool with its shitshow ending. Whine all you want about the wimmenz taking some of Geralt's spotlight in the first season(which is what you're doing), but appealing to only fans like you won't bring the numbers Netflix is interested in for it to even reach a second season.
-
Well Netflix gives a shit about how many people tuned in, so your scenario wasn't going to happen. The books and games are also selling out the ass right now, so it was the right decision.
-
You do know that the show is based more off the books than the games, right? And it also might be a budget thing as far as worldbuilding goes. There's only so much they can do with a high fantasy series like this. Also, at the very least, not introducing Yennefer in the first season would have been a big mistake because I've heard as much about her as I have about Geralt from my friends who are fans of the books. The Fantasy genre has a healthy fan base of women who unsurprisingly like powerful female characters.
-
I followed along pretty well. *Shrug* I thought the show did a pretty good job of hinting at the different timelines. All you had to do was pay attention to the scenery and names of folks. Like the camera panning to a painting of the incest king when he was a little boy, so I was like "Ohhhh" when that little boy popped up in another scene. It is an old school Fantasy technique so even if I haven't seen it in a while, I'm still used to it. I can see why it would annoy other people though. Never played the games or read the books, but I really liked the show. It's nice having a Fantasy action show that doesn't take itself too seriously again.

Y'all don't have the time to pay royalties on the promised date, but y'all got time to help that piece of shit fake a whole ass book? -
I must post this: I loved this scene in Sorry to Bother You because me and my friends do this when we're pissed and don't want to really hurt each other's feelings.

I'm sorting through my restaurant links and checking to see what still has good food or closed last year(Yes, I'm that obsessed with food), so I noticed a surge of bad reviews and people are fucking awful. Yelper: I tried to eat here but they said they closed an hour early. How could they be so rude! 1 STAR! Date: 12/24/19 People are salty as fuck that restaurants dared to give their employees time off and didn't provide them din-din. -
*Shrugs* I guess.

This has been a strange journey for me. I almost had a heart attack, got to see my name ahead of Nora Roberts in my genre, and now I've been sent back quite a few steps due to 2019 being a Hell year. Why is life so damn exhausting?

I should start keeping track of how many books I read in 2020

This is what I'm doing too. I like Goodreads but having to constantly login annoys me. -

Neither did I. If rodents were gonna pop up in one of y'all's ovens, I'd expect it to be Nabs.
