SHITHOLE CHEST FREEZER that's the title of this rant. it's a short one, but full of the rage. my shithole chest freezer decided to crap out sometime in the last week, and we didn't notice it until the wife went after some frozen chops last night. they were not frozen. and neither was anything else in there. the contents were so far from frozen, in fact, that it all must be thrown out. probably 50 pounds of various meats, as well as casseroles, frozen pastries set to be consumed this xmas, random treats for the kiddos, bags of home-grown fruits and veggies, etc etc. all gone. i could probably save some of the bagged green stuff, but it's all drenched in blood and stinking from being so snug next to the various rotting flesh. what's the fucking point. at least all my frozen hops were in a hanging rack, and didn't suffer from contamination. was not planning on the expense of a new freezer and contents this close to xmas, but i can swing it as long as i don't go too crazy with a replacement. probably gonna get a bigger upright if i can keep it under $700. sorry wife, the rest of your xmas gift is gonna be a new freezer.

Eternal "What Are You Drinking" Thread.

diving hard into the quads tonight. started with a st bernardus abt 12, about 18 months old. delicious. second was a deschutes the stoic from 2015. also pretty good. now we're drinking la trappe quad, brewed this year. talk about banana boat. it's also the only true trappist beer we have in the lineup tonight. after this we're cracking a unibroue terrible from 2015. it's been a year or so since i've had one of them, and i'm looking forward to it. finally found a style that both the wife and i enjoy. this could be a dangerous combination... -
binary bj's is all i've thought about since like 2007.

and that's where the conversation re: this song should be looking. it would be a more fruitful conversation, at least.

i was about to say this conversation happened like a year or two ago, and here we are repeating it all over again.

a bunch of tornadoes breezed thru the area yesterday. the big one was in taylorville il, with over 100 structures damaged / destroyed. so far, no reports of any deaths. this is video from last night. it was already dark by time it got to town, so this is about the best video there is at that point. but it was also recorded before dark while it was still south of town. this was a couple hours east of here, but there were a few more that were quite a bit closer. this one was just about 15 minutes away. and this one was about an hour northeast of here. might actually be the same cell that produced the tornado in the previous video, taken from locations over 30 miles apart. we got a couple sprinkles, and watched the big cells drift across the eastern horizon from our front porch. there was still snow on the ground in different places around town. interesting december weather.

What Tv show are you Watching on Cable, Netflix, Hulu, etc?

just finished up "bodyguard" on netflix. robb stark spent all 7 episodes calling everyone "mom" but other than that it was a lot of fun. had a predictable final twist, like they were telegraphing it from the start. but it was interesting and, at least for the first few eps, somewhat fresh for the genre. -

jealous or something? -
that's been my experience with google. they only ship via fedex, and the apparently require the herbie hancock if you go over a certain $ amount. if i'm gonna lose a day waiting for a delivery, i'd be better off to just drive up to the warehouse in chicago and pick it up myself. at least then i could sit down to some decent fucking restaurant food for a change.

we're doing a taco bar for our employee xmas party at the bar this year. we did bbq last year, and chinese the year before that. tradition can eat duck, i'll be over here eating what i want.
-
i get why they do it though. they want to require sig confirmation for high-value items that can easily be swiped from a front stoop. i would have gladly had them ship it to my work if i knew it would require sig. i would have had it saturday and this whole first world problem could have been avoided. but don't offer to waive the requirement if you're not going to do it. the shitheads delivered a nest thermostat yesterday and didn't require any signatures. i think the driver actually tossed it onto the front porch like he was playing horseshoes. didn't knock or anything. it's one extreme to the next with these cock pockets.

i don't have any pictures of mine, but it never flowers nor goes dormant, and i've never killed a piece of it unintentionally. it will grow in a cup of water, in a pot the size of a baseball, and in low / no light for weeks without taking damage. there are about half a dozen pieces growing in different places around the house right now, and i've given cuttings to several family and friends. the original one i have is 20+ years old, and it was a cutting from someone else. he's been named "bobbie lee" and he's lived happily in front of a window at the bar since 2006, if that tells you how resilient the damn thing is. -

we just got our 55g back up and rolling in the last couple months. i've been fighting alkalinity problems, but i think i'm about to get that straightened out in the next week. haven't been able to keep any plecos alive, assuming because of the ph levels being too high. once the ph is down, i'll be adding plecos again and hopefully getting everything in perfect balance. then my mated pair of angels will hopefully start spawning once again. angel fry are the cutest little things. -

fair enough. for the record, i've had the top right (Tradescantia zebrina) for years, but i've never seen the other three versions in that picture.
