  1. just finished up "bodyguard" on netflix. robb stark spent all 7 episodes calling everyone "mom" but other than that it was a lot of fun. had a predictable final twist, like they were telegraphing it from the start. but it was interesting and, at least for the first few eps, somewhat fresh for the genre.
  2. jealous or something?
  3. that's been my experience with google. they only ship via fedex, and the apparently require the herbie hancock if you go over a certain $ amount. if i'm gonna lose a day waiting for a delivery, i'd be better off to just drive up to the warehouse in chicago and pick it up myself. at least then i could sit down to some decent fucking restaurant food for a change.
  4. we're doing a taco bar for our employee xmas party at the bar this year. we did bbq last year, and chinese the year before that. tradition can eat duck, i'll be over here eating what i want.
  5. i get why they do it though. they want to require sig confirmation for high-value items that can easily be swiped from a front stoop. i would have gladly had them ship it to my work if i knew it would require sig. i would have had it saturday and this whole first world problem could have been avoided. but don't offer to waive the requirement if you're not going to do it. the shitheads delivered a nest thermostat yesterday and didn't require any signatures. i think the driver actually tossed it onto the front porch like he was playing horseshoes. didn't knock or anything. it's one extreme to the next with these cock pockets.
  6. it is when we have it decked out.
  7. i'm gonna spend the next 3-5 weeks setting up magical decor scenes inside my house and taking pictures of them with my fancy new phone. like this:
  8. i don't have any pictures of mine, but it never flowers nor goes dormant, and i've never killed a piece of it unintentionally. it will grow in a cup of water, in a pot the size of a baseball, and in low / no light for weeks without taking damage. there are about half a dozen pieces growing in different places around the house right now, and i've given cuttings to several family and friends. the original one i have is 20+ years old, and it was a cutting from someone else. he's been named "bobbie lee" and he's lived happily in front of a window at the bar since 2006, if that tells you how resilient the damn thing is.
  9. we just got our 55g back up and rolling in the last couple months. i've been fighting alkalinity problems, but i think i'm about to get that straightened out in the next week. haven't been able to keep any plecos alive, assuming because of the ph levels being too high. once the ph is down, i'll be adding plecos again and hopefully getting everything in perfect balance. then my mated pair of angels will hopefully start spawning once again. angel fry are the cutest little things.
  10. fair enough. for the record, i've had the top right (Tradescantia zebrina) for years, but i've never seen the other three versions in that picture.
  11. so i ended up getting my fedex delivery yesterday. and then...
  12. with any tank fish i've seen spawn (and most of the pond fish as well), the female deposits her eggs on whatever substrate, and the male releases sperm in the water around the eggs to fertilize them. unfortunately, no smashing takes place.
  13. wandering jew is purple. i have a plant that's probably 20+ years old and has put so many babies out into other pots over the years. it's the cockroach of potted plants, i swear. nabs' plant doesn't look anything like a wandering jew to me. but the water doesn't look dirty. it looks brackish or maybe has tannins leached from a new piece of aquarium wood, but pretty clear for what it is. good luck with the cory fry nabs!
  14. hey fedex. fuck your stupid face. i ordered a new phone last week and i specifically requested no signature requirement because there's no one home during the day. they tried to deliver it saturday and -- guess what -- no one was home. however, they wouldn't deliver it because it had -- guess what -- signature requirement! i stayed home from work yesterday because i was sick. i figured, if nothing else, i'd at least get a new phone to play with while suffering from whatever i was coming down with (turns out it's probably just a cold). well fedex decided not to deliver to my town yesterday because the roads were too slick after a little snow on sunday. fuckers. so they're gonna try to deliver again today. i called fedex to see if we could change the delivery address to my work, and they said they couldn't do it because it was locked with signature requirement by the shipper. even though i specifically asked for that NOT to happen. they said i could call the shipper and make the changes though, so off to google support i went. after a long and frustrating conversation with two different agents, it was determined they couldn't alter the shipping instructions because the item had already shipped. all they could do was to ask the item be held at the local office for me to pick up. an hour away. so back to fedex i went, looking for a local office number to see if we could have the driver let me know when he's close to my house, so i could sneak out of work and meet him there. well fedex doesn't allow drivers to contact recipients about delivery times. my window for delivery is 10am-4pm, and i work from 8am-4pm. if i miss delivery today, they'll try again tomorrow and probably fail again. then they'll hold the phone at the local office for a week before sending it back to google. at this point, i'm about ready to tell them to eat shit and i'll go find a phone somewhere else that SHIPS WITH UPS!
  15. i really hope this burny / itchy throat thing doesn't turn into something i need medicine for. all out of h2o2 for gargling, and i really don't want to go out in this blizzard to get some. i swear, i've suffered from more respiratory issues since quitting smoking than i ever did before. that's just not fair, man.
  16. to post in rants? the f you getting at?
  17. this bot is broken.
  18. the way i see it, since it's already dead, you may as well use the leftover parts for something. my favorite use is turning deer pelts into blankets.
  19. pixel 3 xl, it went on sale thru project fi this morning. i was gonna buy it yesterday, but i hopped on chat support to ask what day the sales were hitting. i got lucky enough that the support rep (AI probably) said waiting "a day or so" would be wise.
  20. shit, enjoy it all you want. fuck prison boi til you wear a hole in that fancy thing. idc. i spent $500 this morning on a phone that was $900 before this morning, and i'm happy as shit that i decided to wait an extra month to upgrade. but i didn't save $400. i spent $400 less.
  21. "saving like $500" "buying a new bed" that's not how shit works. if you'd have put the money into an investment of some sort, instead of splurging on a new piece of furniture, now that would be saving money. what you did is spend $500 less than you would have if you bought it at regular price, but i'm thinking you probably wouldn't have bought it if it were at regular price, so you would have actually saved money if it never went on sale in the first place.
  22. fair points all around. we hunted for the food because it was a subsistence thing. it's a hell of a lot cheaper to buy a box of shells and spend some downtime processing critters, than it is to go to the meat locker or grocery store. we also butchered livestock, drank unpasteurized cow's milk straight out of the milk tank, and kept a garden that was usually on the 2+ acre size (not including sweet corn and potatoes, because those were grown in rows out in the strip crops). but if we snagged a trophy buck or tom, sure we'd put it on the wall in the cabin. nothing wrong with taking a little pride in your work.
  23. *strokes chin whiskers, shades on, 1000 yard stare* it's been a long time since i've done any hunting. a long time... we hunted everything on the farm as kids. squirrel, turkey, rabbit, deer, raccoon, coyote, various birds, pretty much anything that was wild and on our property. i moved away after high school, and haven't had anywhere to hunt since then. i'll still go out if i'm back home during a season, but that has't happened for several years. we owned a small arsenal of firearms, but i was partial to my old remington .22 and my ithaca 12 gauge semi-automatic "deerslayer". oh, and the winchester .44 revolver. that thing was a cannon.
