THIS FUCKING COLD. we've been less then +20F for ten fucking days straight. yesterday morning, it was -16F. this morning, i woke up to +19F at 7am. wow, a heat wave! now here we are at noon, and it's back down to +13F, on the way down to -3F overnight. we might get back up to +20F by saturday, but probably not. i really hate that i have to put a + or - next to the temperature, because it can go either way around here since xmas eve. fucking done with this shit.

i'm willing to bet my "this week's pre-approval store card offers-by-mail" that these cards were never valid, and probably don't even have her real name on them. tell: fuggs can't get credit anymore.

forgot. wife also got me some of that death wish coffee. i made some that afternoon and didn't think it tasted any more potent than regular coffee. so i drank the rest of the half a pot. didn't go to sleep that night until after 3am. shit works folks.

oh! i got some socks too. in my stocking. along with a stick of deodorant and some citrus fruit. yep.

i got shit for xmas this year. a couple gift cards and two throw-away gifts, that's it. but i had a flu wife and 2 flu kids to take care of. so that was nice.

the chocolate ghost is supposed to be milder than the regular ones. i would agree that it is, but it's still a ghost chili and one pepper might still be more than an entire batch of chili needs.

sister gave me some chocolate ghost chilis and habaneros from her farm over thanksgiving weekend. i'm not entirely sure what to do with the ghost chilis. i bit the tip off one of them, and it was juuuust a bit past my limit.

i wasn't as impressed as i was hoping i'd be with bright, but it wasn't a disaster like the critics would have you believe. it was a little weak allegorically. but i don't think you can apply that much weight to what felt to me like an action / comedy. my main problem was, suspension of disbelief can only take you so far when the big baddies kill entire leagues of special forces, but the handful of regular-joe heroes are much more formidable. i dunno. soundtrack was decent, makeup and wardrobe were great, dialogue wasn't horrible, even with all the throwaway lines (kinda felt like will smith from the "independence day" era, which i prefer), and the action / choreography was enjoyable. plus, the universe has a lot of room for expansion, and it seems like series material i would probably enjoy. overall, not bad for a netflix movie. i'll definitely look out for the sequel. 7/10

homemade wine is something i've considered trying. it's not a whole lot different, equipment-wise, than making beer at home. i can make beer 10 gallons at a time, and i have fermentation capacity of about 40 gallons (in 5-gallon increments) so it would be pretty easy to set up one fermenter with wine. you can get a starter kit for about $100, and the cheaper wine ingredient kids start at around $50 and will make about 1-1/2 to 2 cases of wine.

we're gonna try our hand at making mozzarella. there will be wine and homebrew beer involved too, so it may or may not go well. we'll see... as for actual xmas food, we made a few hundred cookies, and we will whip up a bunch of snacky shit on xmas eve. dips and finger foods, oysters, whatever else we feel like throwing together. we eat at family's house on xmas day, so no food prep on my part.
