6/3 Schedule Jack rerunning at 11
brianycpht replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
If the block got cut back to 3-3.5 hours, it would be fine if we were left with quality shows. 3 long runners/3 shorter shows/ 1 rerun was a good formula back in 2015. I really don't know what they expect here. It does seem like AS went, "Hey this show did great at 11!! It beat Family Guy most weeks. Why change it ?" While that may work for the weeknight comedy block, the opposite is true for reruns of a seriazlized action program. The best we can really hopefull is on par with how the encores did. Maybe they just don't think it matters because Super isn't getting over a million most weeks at 11:30 so what's the harm? I really think though that FG viewers and DB viewers were more of a compatible audience. But its like anyone with an idea you don't like, you have to just let them try it and if it fails, then they'll change it. I remember attempts in the mid 2000s to put Home Movies back in the 11:00 hour and giving Futurama or FG a rest. They tried it a few times and it would last literally a week or 2 before they had to change it back. Remember ATHF at 8:30 on Saturday last year? 3 weeks and King of the Hill was back. If this doesn't work, it won't go on long. -
6/3 Schedule Jack rerunning at 11

OK now that I have time to reflect on this: - I don't think this was the best thing they could've done. The ratings will not be as high as the first time around. However, I was talking to Sketch earlier to day on Twitter and he sort of theorized that they may be holding the timeslot for FLCL. We may get more info on this at Momocon. I'd imagine that they will do another full run of Jack (which would take us until mid-August) before that. They do not want to shift the block around but want 11:00 pm to remain part of Toonami. Super hasn't proven itself to be 11:00 material perhaps either. To be completely honest, I don't think FLCL is 11:00 PM material either because it's kinda out there and doesn't have that mainstream appeal. But it's their show that they produced, so I can see the logic. -Another point we touched upon was that the audience for Jack and DB are not as compatible with that of Family Guy. It's entirely possible that this will not affect Super in the slightest because as we've seen, high ratings for Jack do not equal high ratings for Super. Before Jack, Super (and Kai before it) would be affected by how much or little Family Guy did. We may now even see Super gain on Jack. Either way, I don't think it'll affect the rest of the night. If it directly affected the rest of Toonami, we'd be benefiting right now after the huge ratings every week for Jack. -If for some reason it does drag everything down to an unacceptable level, they'll make a change. Unlike Super, they have some level of control here. -
6/3 Schedule Jack rerunning at 11

It's staying on course. They are just rerunning the same episode at 8 for 2 weeks. -
http://adultswim.x10.mx Can't say I'm not disappointed in this. I don't think a show like this is going to hit as big the second time around. They did fix the Super problem however. Toonami won't be a week behind the 8pm

here's what i never got about marathons

Also doesn't stop AS from running a new episode of Mike Tyson on Sunday night either. -
Toonami Memorial Day plans (what we know so far)
brianycpht replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I think by sometime next week, the picture will become clearer. We're still at the part of the schedule that we normally wouldn't see. Currently the schedule shows an episode of Bob's at 3:30 on May 27th. We know now that it's wrong because the Jack marathon is going to 4AM. What's weird is, there is no reason that June 3rd should be blanked out unless something is changing schedule wise. I don't think it would be big news if it was just Jack rerunning or Family Guy returning to 11:00 and the rest of the lineup staying the same. Something is probably happening that they still don't want us to know about. It's possible they want to save an announcement for either the Upfronts or maybe Momocon (but that's unlikely because it's only a week before). HxH taking a break is a possibility I suppose if they only got 52 episodes in the initial batch, but this isn't an opportune time to do it right in the middle of an arc! Too long of a break and there may be an issue getting that audience back On the other hand, brining a long runner back after a break is a sort of cheat to get it a better timeslot! -

brianycpht replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The schedule for June 3rd is out and it again is blanked out. However, I don't think it is correct at this point. 8:00 Dragonball Super Episode 21 (NEW) 11:00 Jack season 5, episode 2 Scary possibilities of Jack rerunning at 11 and Super's 8 getting ahead of Toonami's airing still loom, but I'm going to be positive and chalk it up to an error at this point. It doesn't make sense at this point because if Jack was getting another run at 11, it would be at episode 1 again. So we'll just have to wait and see when it is finally updated. We may be in for some kind of change they don't want us to know about yet. It is very possible that something could show up during upfronts next week. Whenever the press release comes out- check under new acquisitions, that's how we found out about IBO last year! The actual marathon day schedule is still blanket out and incorrect at this point. -

brianycpht replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
We should know tomorrow if June 3rd is just a 11pm-less regular lineup or something new (blanked out schedule) Tomorrow also should have the Memorial Day marathon schedule finalized to include a 3:30 Jack (it still has Bob's Burgers there right now) Either way it should indicate what they plan on doing with Super for those 2 weeks. It would be a disaster if somehow they let 8pm get ahead of 11:30, but I'd like to think they are smarter than that. Personally I'm on the fence about whether I want to keep 11:00. I'd like to see a new show in there (not a Jack rerun please), but not at the detriment of the block's ratings. I'm not sure if Toonami can survive with an 11:00 start time if there no new episodes of Jack. As far as Mob goes, I'd be fine with that one, but I really wish Toonami could go for something who's dub isn't already out in the wild (my term for illegal streaming sites ) -

I usually have to read a wiki to follow the plot. Maybe I'm just not smart enough or study enough beforehand to get it. I want always the best student > -

It's more about how that one takes viewers away from the latter showing. -

-This is why you don't sign a deal that gives a distributor control of programming decisions. They only care about how THEIR show does and not the rest of a block or network. At least their should have been a provision that would allow changes to be made depending on performance. Problem is neither airing is doing "bad" on its own, but the show is tanking the rest of the block -With a show like this with so many plot twists and mysteries, waiting this long to put the show out is bad when a manga exists that tells you everything. Also, it would have been nice if this could be Day and date (nearly impossible I know)with Japan because the fans who were created with season 1 just do not want to wait when it can be streamed now, especially now that we are into the meat of the season. -The demand for Gundam was highly overestimated out of pure live from the crew and those who have found nostalgia for Wing and G. I think IBO season 1 and 2 along with Unicorn was part of a big package in order to get Sunrise to play ball when they apparently have been hard to work with before. I doubt we'll see more Gundam after this -

A lot of people are saying MHA and MP100 should've been run last year. Do you guys think it's too late for them now considering they've been streaming for awhile now? Super should just be its own thing outside of Toonami. Or better yet use it on another night to launch a new hour long Toonami block -

I wonder how long they made this deal with TOEI? If this were any other show it would have been pulled or moved by now. I hope they included some kind of provisions for themselves in a scenario like this. They had to have known what splitting the ratings for the biggest draw would do to the rest of the night, right? Either way as long as this situation continues so will these ratings. I'm sure by now they understand that as well. But if this is acceptable to them considering the situation, then fine. But there's no really improving from about this every week and unless they make a change. But a press release came out right before upfronts about AS being #1 in 18-34 so as long as they can keep telling advertisers a particular show is winning its timeslot in with 18-34, 18-24 or even just men in those same age brackets, then they may just deal with it. -

Well, the fact that they replied at all shows they at least have an interest in working with a Toonami again. I think this year and last the crew was going through the list of requested shows/shows they've really wanted for awhile. 2015 was apparently a VERY successful year for the block. I think the intent was to continue the momentum and start spending the big bucks to get the huge titles that people have been asking for. Interesting thing I think is that what made 15/early 16 so good was that they did things like Michiko, Akame, Parasyte, and Dimension W. These shows had some buzz but weren't as widely seen as Jojo, Gundam, and HxH. On Reddit, a few of us have mentioned that getting the real big stuff may have backfired because most people who would be interested in them have already seen them so it had the opposite effect of what you may think. No way in hell would I think a lineup that included Super,Gundam, and Jojo have lower than expected ratings. We may next year see a return to the more obscure things and original series -

I saw the first episode of GATE. Looks like the kind of thing Toonami would show. I initially thought it would be the replacement for Parasyte last year if it was gonna be a Sentai title Funny it was actually a reply to Luis Murillo (twitter and Reddit regular) demanding Sentai come back to the block! -

This would be great. I'd love for them to go for something not everybody has already seen or read yet. Could make for more curious viewers. -
Toonami Memorial Day plans (what we know so far)
brianycpht replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I miss the old days of the AS paper schedule. I get show announcements wanting to be a surprise (although I think shows should get more than a week or 2 of promotion and notice before airing- I never understood how Toonami won't talk about a show until the last minute. Can't we get a month or so instead), but marathons don't really have to be a "secret". We expect them on holidays for the most part and it's never anything special other than a recent show usually so why even bother keeping us in the dark about it? -

Sketch's idea is exactly what they need to do in this situation. I'm hoping adjustments are made to that schedule (I'm sure a lot of it is automated anyway to either go to the next episode or back to the 1st in the case of Jack at 11. )The rest being blank is because Toonami probably hasn't made a choice about final scheduling. It's possible the contract with Funimation for Titan is such that either they may not be allowed to preempt OR Funimation has to hold off their release until Toonami airs it, otherwise what's the point of them even waiting a day to post it. Let's hope for good things and good decisions to be made. -

Can you imagine the ratings if they reran Jack at 11 , got behind on Funimation's Titan dub and were a week behind Super? I shudder to think. -

Not much to go on yet, but they schedule so far shows. 8pm NEW DBS 11:00 Jack Season 5, episode 1 The rest of the schedule is blank. Looks like it'll be some kind of marathon, probably Jack. Does this mean they get further behind from Japan with AOT? Will Funimation still post their new dub episode on Sunday putting Toonami airing even behind that? I really hope this doesn't mean they are going to rerun Jack at 11. Super still being new is weird. Will the 8pm episode get ahead of 11:30? Probably will rerun the same episode next week. http://adultswim.x10.mx -

I am not much of a fan either. I only watch it really out of support for the block. If it wasn't for that I don't think I would have picked it up on its own. It's been very boring to me this far. Currently on the block I mostly enjoy Jack and HxH. Everything else I sort of half pay attending to. Wasn't the case in 2015 or 2016. Hopefully something different and fresh comes soon! -

Super is like if a company hired what they deem an "all star employee" who is the best at what they do. But then they start coming in late every day and have to leave at noon while getting no work done and everyone else has to pick up the slack. Then management yells at the rest of the staff for doing a horrible job while the all star gets employee of the month. ;D -

Maybe Toonami can take AOT and Super back to the FUNimation store and get Outlaw Star and Wolf's Rain > In all seriousness though, I have faith that the guys at Toonami will figure this out and make the needed changes or they'll leave I alone and just be satisfied with what it's doing. They can't not do anything and then complain or punish the block for programming decisions that didn't work out. If it means losing 11:00 or even 11:30, let it happen for the sake of the block !
