  1. The fact that they're pushing the Toonami broadcast leads me to believe that they'll preempt on their side if Toonami does for the holiday. On the other hand, the agreement might not allow for a preemption in order to keep pace with Japan.
  2. That's actually a good idea. Maybe for whatever reason they don't get those for Super. The only reason I say they would for AoT, is that there is precedent for it with season 1 having done it. Demarco said in his interview with Toonami Squad that they would make topical for things they make or things they have a heavy financial investment in. I'd imagine Titan cost more than the average show due to the nature of getting it so soon after Japanese broadcast. They could have waited a few months and let FUNimation put it out first and picked it up later, but they saw an opportunity to get it first and probably paid for the privilege. FUNimation was willing to compromise and wait until the next day to post it and maybe even that brief exclusivity cost them as well. As I was talking about last time, I wonder how tight the production schedule on this is and if they can even get a topical made in time for the next week. With Space Dandy, Toonami, FUNimation, and the Japanese production company had made plans ahead of time to pull it off and they mostly used Texas actors (I believe they used some LA actors in minor roles like Bryce and Johnny, but that may have been by luck in having them around at the right time). Titan has actors both in Texas and LA and can only imagine the logistics that need to be worked out with that. (at least technology as come a long way for that!). I remember an interview with Bryce where he really didn't know if they could pull off a simuldub due to these issues. That being said, I'm sure topicals would need a little more lead time than this may allow. I hope this doesn't happen, but delays could cause hiccups in production and possibly force the show to take a week off. That of course depends on how many episodes ahead they are. Maybe Memorial Day would allow them to breathe a little bit. I wonder if Toonami moved up the premiere because FUNimation wanted to post the episode a week before their original premiere date?
  3. I'd imagine they are because it probably cost them a lot. Since they don't have to do Sandwhale anymore, it frees up some promo time. The only hiccup is if the dub falls behind and don't have time to make one. The recent promo and its lack of dialogue leads me to believe that they are coming down to the wire on this one.
  4. Think they would consider Sandwhale a success?
  5. All those decisions that have to be made is why I don't envy the programming department. Keeping 11pm is a toss up. They could slide everything forward, giving the 11pm hour to Dragonball, they could try AOT in that hour as well. They don't like to mess with the lineup too much. But we've seen cases before where shows that are doing well move up, so if AOT does great, then who knows?
  6. I think Stardust is still a certainty. If they're smart, treat it like a new show. It's fresh, somewhat modern, and will probably mostly be devoid of funny accents. Run a promo similar to the one Toonami Faithful made in 2015 that outlines the main plot and sprinkle some of the humorous moments in there. Just don't throw in any clips of Jotaro calling his mom a the "b word" as it might turn off some viewers. : )
  7. Do you know why TVBTN no longer gets the full cable ratings? Or why Programming Insider (they seem to do it for AS on Saturday but not other nights of the week) or Showbuzz don't post them? Does anybody else?I wish I could compare Toonami's performance to other nights of Adult Swim.
  8. I really hope that we don't get Jojo numbers for Attack on Titan. This series should be able to hold Kai better and maybe even gain on it. They paid a lot of money to get this I'm sure if we get similar drops like we've been getting, they may never do anything like this again for us. I don't mean to rag on Jojo, which still didn't do bad and had similar drops to other 12:30 shows, but I think the level of expectations for a show like Titan are higher considering the likely cost.
  9. Now I'm really interested in what Toonami and Funimation do about Memorial Day. If Toonami preempts, will Funimation? Is it worth it to get further behind Japan and possibly even behind the dub release? I guess all that will have to be taken into consideration. They didn't preempt Space Dandy during the 4th or Labor Day because they wanted to be the first to premere it. They even briefly moved it back to 11:30 for the one week. I think it's important to try and keep pace and not be potentially 5 weeks behind Japan and possibly 2 weeks behind Funimation (although it's possible there's a deal in place to prevent this). I guess they'll have to decide if the holiday factor outweighs the possibility of getting behind.
  10. That's true. I suppose that would affect Funimation's simulcast schedule. I was just concerned that they would plow ahead whether Toonami takes a break or not. They may have a broadcast deal that lets Toonami air it first before their allowed to post it though. At least if I was in Toonami's position, I'd push for that kind of deal.
  11. Just thought of something, do you guys think if Toonami doesn't run Titan on the 2 holidays, Funimation will post on schedule leaving Toonami behind? That would suck for them to potentially lose some of the audience that way !
  12. That's a shame if they do it for Joseph. I just can't see him the same way if he doesn't sound British! It sort of changes the character IMO. Why'd they other having Epcar do it in the airport scene? It sounded pretty good.
  13. I hope they keep the accent. It's not Joseph to me without it!
  14. Yeah that out of the park scenario is the only way I see Toonami going away. If there was a total coup and staff turnover. That's one great thing about AS, for the most part, the original people are still in charge of the network. I don't see it being the same if they weren't! I always assumed that Demarco or Manning would be Lazzo's successor if he ever left or retired, which like you said, would only benefit Toonami!
  15. That's why you're the statition around here! Sounds pretty good to me all things considering! That's why is important not to put so much emphasis on comparing the exact numbers from a year ago since the potential audience was overall larger. I guess it's their job to figure out how much of the audience erosion is due to cable being down and how much of it actually relates to the programming.I wish we could see the numbers for the weeknight lineup. I'm curious as to how AS is doing overall. The only thing that I worry about (the only way I see this happening ) is if AS viewership continues to decline and somehow Lazzo. Manning, Demarco and others leave the network and people take over who do not care about the block. I actually had a bad dream the other night that they replaced Toonami with BBT reruns like on TBS! Talk about a nightmare!
  16. Man this week it said AS viewership was down 28% from last time year,. That being the case, I guess 750k is the the new million!
  17. One thing to consider I suppose is that it started the same week last year. Depending on how many marathons they want to run, there may be some strategic placing in order for it to finish out before the Christmas hiatus. If they start there and take off July 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving, it'll work out just right. If they don't plan on taking one of those off (similar to last year) then they can wait another week to start it. I guess it all depends on what their programming plans are this year.
  18. I'm sure IBO2 is a done deal at this point. It's even possible that both seasons were picked up together along with Unicorn as a show of good faith to Sunrise. For whatever reason, they had the hardest time getting any type of Gundam on the block for years. That'll take us to the end of 2017, then after that who knows?
  19. I'd say they start Stardust at 12:30 or 1:00, depending on where they want to stick IBO. Of course it's all relevant to how well all the other shows are doing when that comes. As far as Double Gundam for 2 weeks, why not? They'll do whatever they have to do in order to premiere things when they want to.
  20. My biggest issue with promotion is that with most series, the promo disappears after the first week. You think they can still run it a couple times a week to remind people it's on.
  21. No people really do try to insult him even on a personal level. Sometimes it seems like people make it their mission to try and piss him off. He was a Sander supporter and people would right things on his ask.FM like "When Trump wins, I bet you'll cancel Toonami out of liberal tears while you whine on Twitter all day" and he was just like "No way. Not even Trump can stop Toonami!"
  22. Yeah the 2014/2015 fiasco was largely a lot of bad luck. Many things that Toonami couldn't do anything about. There was also the Dish Network fiasco, the end of Bleach, brining on DBZ Kai and Inuyasha: TFA and take them off for mostly rerun movies for a whole month. By cutting the block, though, they were able to salvage what was important and rebuild from there.
  23. Demarco runs Adult Swim- On Air. basically in his words, everything on Adult Swim that's not a show. He and his team are behind all the AS interstitials and packaging, of which Toonami is considered. He doesn't get paid anything extra for Toonami, it's just considered packaging that airs on Saturday nights. Kim Manning is head of programming and decides things like schedules and acquisitions. Demarco and Gil sit down with her work out what shows to get based on demand, cost, and a whole bunch of other decisions. She makes the deals and reaches out to the distributors .She actually is a big fan of anime and used to even talk to people on the ASMB. She is a really cool person. She has to make decisions about programming, schedules, and the other things I mentioned. I'm sure plenty of factors have to go into play when deciding a shows timeslot like show compatibility, cost vs ratings potential, ect.. Decisions about whether or not to run marathons (which don't cost them much) on nights when there will be less TV viewership have also to be made with regard to how it plays into the overall scheme of things. Think about all the moves that had to happen to have DBZ Kai wrap by last years end in order to start TFC in January. Demarco of course has his opinions, but these decisions are largely out of his control and like any job with many departments, you may not like every decision your superiors make, but in the end you have a job to do and keep so you aren't really in a position to argue about every one of those choices, even if you know it's not a good idea. The April Fools gag certainty was bad for Jack fans, but they also had to take into consideration the Final Four competition and the need to have Jack wrap up the week before Memorial Day. I'm sure all of this was choreographed way ahead of time. Sometimes you stop and think, "Wow wasn't that convenient timing?" Like the DBZ thing, they had to have the normal holiday breaks, forgo a Thanksgiving break, double up last May, and run an episode on a marathon night in 2015 to make that happen. I just feel bad for the guy because he is sort of on the front lines. You should have heard some of the Youtube rants that were screaming about how Demarco needs to take responsibility for this because "he's in charge of Toonami". It's not like he can say "Hey 11:00-3:30 belongs to ME, you can't touch it" and how he "Waited 2 WHOLE HOURS to let people know what was going on!" He doesn't need to do anything. It's Saturday, it's his day off and I'm sure he'd like to spend time with his family. He doesn't have to talk to people just because he has a Twitter account. He does and will because he cares , but for a network executive, he's one of the most accessible and transparent one's out there.
  24. There's not much Demarco can do with regards to programming decisions. He just curates the block, helps decide what shows to get, plan TIE's. Lineup decisions, when and what marathons to play, the length of the block, ect... are all in the hands of the programming department. I'm sure he provides his opinion and guidance, but the ultimate choice isn't up to him. I saw a YouTube video that put the blame solely in Demarco's hands for the stunt because "he controls Toonami" and that's just plain wrong. It's not like he owns the airwaves during those hours. Some people think he can veto anything that affects Toonami and it doesn't work that way.
  25. I could see them trying it. But I don't think it's a good idea not so much for Toonami's sake but for Rick and Morty's sake. I'm sure it's not cheap to make that show and I'd hate to see it railroaded because it didn't do as well on Saturdays as it did on Sunday's. It could go either way I suppose.
