  1. It's more about how that one takes viewers away from the latter showing.
  2. -This is why you don't sign a deal that gives a distributor control of programming decisions. They only care about how THEIR show does and not the rest of a block or network. At least their should have been a provision that would allow changes to be made depending on performance. Problem is neither airing is doing "bad" on its own, but the show is tanking the rest of the block -With a show like this with so many plot twists and mysteries, waiting this long to put the show out is bad when a manga exists that tells you everything. Also, it would have been nice if this could be Day and date (nearly impossible I know)with Japan because the fans who were created with season 1 just do not want to wait when it can be streamed now, especially now that we are into the meat of the season. -The demand for Gundam was highly overestimated out of pure live from the crew and those who have found nostalgia for Wing and G. I think IBO season 1 and 2 along with Unicorn was part of a big package in order to get Sunrise to play ball when they apparently have been hard to work with before. I doubt we'll see more Gundam after this
  3. A lot of people are saying MHA and MP100 should've been run last year. Do you guys think it's too late for them now considering they've been streaming for awhile now? Super should just be its own thing outside of Toonami. Or better yet use it on another night to launch a new hour long Toonami block
  4. I wonder how long they made this deal with TOEI? If this were any other show it would have been pulled or moved by now. I hope they included some kind of provisions for themselves in a scenario like this. They had to have known what splitting the ratings for the biggest draw would do to the rest of the night, right? Either way as long as this situation continues so will these ratings. I'm sure by now they understand that as well. But if this is acceptable to them considering the situation, then fine. But there's no really improving from about this every week and unless they make a change. But a press release came out right before upfronts about AS being #1 in 18-34 so as long as they can keep telling advertisers a particular show is winning its timeslot in with 18-34, 18-24 or even just men in those same age brackets, then they may just deal with it.
  5. Well, the fact that they replied at all shows they at least have an interest in working with a Toonami again. I think this year and last the crew was going through the list of requested shows/shows they've really wanted for awhile. 2015 was apparently a VERY successful year for the block. I think the intent was to continue the momentum and start spending the big bucks to get the huge titles that people have been asking for. Interesting thing I think is that what made 15/early 16 so good was that they did things like Michiko, Akame, Parasyte, and Dimension W. These shows had some buzz but weren't as widely seen as Jojo, Gundam, and HxH. On Reddit, a few of us have mentioned that getting the real big stuff may have backfired because most people who would be interested in them have already seen them so it had the opposite effect of what you may think. No way in hell would I think a lineup that included Super,Gundam, and Jojo have lower than expected ratings. We may next year see a return to the more obscure things and original series
  6. I saw the first episode of GATE. Looks like the kind of thing Toonami would show. I initially thought it would be the replacement for Parasyte last year if it was gonna be a Sentai title Funny it was actually a reply to Luis Murillo (twitter and Reddit regular) demanding Sentai come back to the block!
  7. This would be great. I'd love for them to go for something not everybody has already seen or read yet. Could make for more curious viewers.
  8. I miss the old days of the AS paper schedule. I get show announcements wanting to be a surprise (although I think shows should get more than a week or 2 of promotion and notice before airing- I never understood how Toonami won't talk about a show until the last minute. Can't we get a month or so instead), but marathons don't really have to be a "secret". We expect them on holidays for the most part and it's never anything special other than a recent show usually so why even bother keeping us in the dark about it?
  9. Sketch's idea is exactly what they need to do in this situation. I'm hoping adjustments are made to that schedule (I'm sure a lot of it is automated anyway to either go to the next episode or back to the 1st in the case of Jack at 11. )The rest being blank is because Toonami probably hasn't made a choice about final scheduling. It's possible the contract with Funimation for Titan is such that either they may not be allowed to preempt OR Funimation has to hold off their release until Toonami airs it, otherwise what's the point of them even waiting a day to post it. Let's hope for good things and good decisions to be made.
  10. Let's hope they don't think that just because it did amazing the first time that it will for a second run in the same timeslot.
  11. Can you imagine the ratings if they reran Jack at 11 , got behind on Funimation's Titan dub and were a week behind Super? I shudder to think.
  12. Not much to go on yet, but they schedule so far shows. 8pm NEW DBS 11:00 Jack Season 5, episode 1 The rest of the schedule is blank. Looks like it'll be some kind of marathon, probably Jack. Does this mean they get further behind from Japan with AOT? Will Funimation still post their new dub episode on Sunday putting Toonami airing even behind that? I really hope this doesn't mean they are going to rerun Jack at 11. Super still being new is weird. Will the 8pm episode get ahead of 11:30? Probably will rerun the same episode next week. http://adultswim.x10.mx
  13. I am not much of a fan either. I only watch it really out of support for the block. If it wasn't for that I don't think I would have picked it up on its own. It's been very boring to me this far. Currently on the block I mostly enjoy Jack and HxH. Everything else I sort of half pay attending to. Wasn't the case in 2015 or 2016. Hopefully something different and fresh comes soon!
  14. Super is like if a company hired what they deem an "all star employee" who is the best at what they do. But then they start coming in late every day and have to leave at noon while getting no work done and everyone else has to pick up the slack. Then management yells at the rest of the staff for doing a horrible job while the all star gets employee of the month. ;D
  15. Maybe Toonami can take AOT and Super back to the FUNimation store and get Outlaw Star and Wolf's Rain > In all seriousness though, I have faith that the guys at Toonami will figure this out and make the needed changes or they'll leave I alone and just be satisfied with what it's doing. They can't not do anything and then complain or punish the block for programming decisions that didn't work out. If it means losing 11:00 or even 11:30, let it happen for the sake of the block !
  16. I guess that still sucks They also have IBO Season 2 up there as well. All Toonami can really do is make sure the dub is exclusive to them I guess. We definitely can't afford to have entire dubs easily and legally available elsewhere anymore. The entirety of Tokyo Ghoul is up on Hulu dubbed as well which is unfortunate.
  17. Is it STILL? I thought they took it down. Just checked, they took the dub down it looks like, but it was there for a few weeks when Toonami started airing it.
  18. I largely watch Unicorn and Shippuden out of pure support for the block. I've seen these Shippuden episodes before and I gave up trying to enjoy Unicorn a few weeks ago. It's just too convoluted for my tastes and has been difficult to follow. Ghost in the Shell I always enjoy even though this is my 3rd run through the show in recent years. Maybe it's my ASA nostalgia driving that. I miss One Piece as it was always a fun way to end the night!
  19. Peter Griffin is the hero Toonami needs right now.
  20. Put Super on another night if it must premere at 8. It may even work out for the better. Like I said before , once TOEI realizes this show isn't a toy commercial in the US, they may work out a better deal
  21. Its unfortunate what happened to One Piece because it doesn't seem like the block is doing any better without it in the back end. More and more I believe cost played more of a factor in that shows fate.
  22. Female viewers have never been AS 'a strong suit, but I wonder if the great numbers we were getting in 2015 were attributed to shows like Kill la Kill, SaO2, MH, and AGK which had plenty of kick ass female heros and thus were more appealing across gender lines.
  23. This is something I keep forgetting. As long as they can go to their advertisers and brag about how well Toonami is doing to that demo, its a win. If you look at the commercials aired during Toonami, mostly fast food, video games, cars, and shaving products, it's no secret who they are targeting. They probablky don't specifically say they want the under 18 crowd, but they do hold SOME value as future AS viewers. Hell, they used to brag about doing well in that same demo back when FMA was airing. I don't think we keep 11:30 in June. Unfortunately, they probably haven't been encouraged by Titans performance to justify taking a chance on 11. The good news is that there may be better viewer retention between Family Guy and Super. For whatever reason, the type of audience that liked Jack are not sticking around for Super, but for some reason, Family Guy viewers dig it more. Still Super being a rerun from only a few hours earlier is still becoming more and more of an issue.
  24. I swear I spend every Tuesday morning in a state of depression! LOL These aren't horrible ratings, but considering what we have on the lineup, it should be doing a little better than this. 8pm Super is continuing to siphon viewers away from 11:30. How much, I don't know, but we can't ignore the fact that 11:30 is a rerun that is put in the middle of the block. I think we need both the 8pm airing and Kai to beat it in key demos before they'll do anything about the situation though. Aot will probably continue to do about this at 12:30 behind the Dragonball shows. I feel bad for the Toonami guys because they really went all out for us to get this on so quick and they deserve a better showing for their efforts. Maybe the combination of the timeslot, the long gap between seasons, and people just watching the sub is playing into this as well. I wonder if this will affect the type of shows that Toonami picks up in the future? It was probably very expensive to get AoT as a dub premiere exclusive. That along with picking up Super, Toonami has probably spent more money this year than ever before and it isn't paying off as well as they probably hoped it will.
