  1. So as far as you can tell there wasn't any redubbing done to the test dub? I figured they may make a few alterations to it like the narrator, but otherwise leave it alone especially if the other VAs haven't changed.
  2. The accent thing is kind of strange since SC begins in Japan (as do most anime). I figured they weren't going to have everybody who lives there speak with a Japanese accent so its as good a time as any to drop accents all around .Just assume everyone is speaking the way that they are supposed to I suppose. If Epcar doesn't do it, it won't be consistent with the end of the last season, but oh well. I didn't think they were going to have Mercer voice Jotaro with a Japanese accent. As far as Epcar's character is concerned, I'll chalk it up to the time spent in America and when interacting with people like his daughter whom he raised there he sounds more American, but when interacting with strangers like the guy at the airport, he resorts to his native British! That would be cool if they could do something like that! Strange as it sounds, I know people who were raised in different parts of the world who actually can speak with different accents depending on who they are talking to. I've known many people in the US who speak differently depending on where they are and who they are talking to. My great grandmother came to this country from Russia as a teenager and pretty much lost her accent except when talking to her parents and other family members. I also knew a girl from Trinidad and she spoke English different ways depending on who she was conversing with. Another strange example is the actor John Barrowman from Doctor Who and Torchwood who is from Scotland, but went back and forth between here and there growing up. He actually demonstrated on a talk show how he speaks with an American accent for the most part, but when he is with his family, he speaks with a Scottish accent.
  3. If Aot runs for 12 episodes and we have the usual holiday marathon breaks (which would put us further behind Japan unfortunately), then it will end on 7/29. Maybe they wont do a July 4th marathon this year because it falls more in the middle of the week. I don't think we lose a slot there since it's still in the middle of the summer. However , college football season does make me think that the block will at least shift back to get out of it's way. Depending on what timeslots are kept and how many shows we have, it can shift to 11:30 or back to Midnight. We also have to keep in mind that Adult Swim itself usually loses an hour in the fall too. This is why a shift makes sense.
  4. Well obviously, it's going to take several weeks of fumigation to get rid of the poisonous gas that One Piece left behind, right Jman? 8)
  5. Since it's a unique case, I suppose it could be classified either way ! It certainly would be after episode 4. I wonder if they'll keep "Walk Like an Egyptian"? I don't think the test dub did..
  6. Two of the characters are portrayed to have accents in this current dub and in the test dub, they have no accents. so I assumed that Viz would at least redub those characters and leave the rest of it alone.
  7. Do you think the 3 episodes will get a full rerun or just a partial one to correct the accents and maybe replace the narrator?
  8. http://animeboston.com/news/article/637 Yeah it just says "special episodes" premere hosted by Viz media. No idea what that means.
  9. They love to keep us off balance when it comes to show reveals. Sometimes its at conventions, other times its PreFlight, and every now and then its on a food truck :-D We got Anime Boston this weekend, where I believe they will be premiering the first episode of Stardust. We may here something about it soon. No doubt though that it'll be on the air by the summer, even if they get a 12 episode show to temporarily take its place. I feel like Toonami was willing to let Part 1/2 play out to get to the more popular Part 3 which would be a better match for the DBZ crowd. I think the thing to do is to give it a small break, run something short, and come back with promos that highlight the action. If it does end up being shown without a break, I hope at least it gets its own marketing and promo anyway . Each new Jojo should be treated as a new series and not just the next episode.I think part of the problem with Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency is that no one get any heads up that this was anything different. If people were turned off by part 1 and left, they had nothing telling them to come back and give this a try. Hell, it still shows Jonathan and Dio on my DVR guide. Especially since they did 2 episodes in one night when the switch occurred, it would've been cool to get some kind of promo about a brand new Jojo starting up. My wife is usually willing now to give anything new Toonami airs a try. She was going to drop Jojo after episode 2. (her quote "I get it! Jojo and Dio don't like each other! ") so I had to give her heads up that it wouldn't be this way for long and once Joseph took over it'll be way better, so she hung around. Now she loves it. But if I hadn't told her it would change, she would be gone and I had to sort of ruin the surprise of Jojo. I feel like a lot of casuals need to know that Jojo still isn't about 2 step brothers fighting each other in the 1800s.
  10. That's what I love about Richard Epcar. He just straight up tells you about things he's working on that haven't even been announced, like Lupin. He's probably one of the nicest most accessible VAs out there
  11. I wonder if FUNIMATION will make it a little more difficult for Toonami to get broadcast dubs right away. Are they gonna want exclusivity over them for their service for a period after putting in the investment to get them done so fast?
  12. Yeah. They need to sort of break their conventional habits in order to get this show on ASAP. After all, they didn't take off Thanksgiving in order to line up premieres where they needed to go. I seem to recall them not skipping Space Dandy at all so it could still be a world premiere. They really have an opportunity to do something special with AOT if everything lines up and FUNimation can get it done and work out a favorable deal with Toonami (most likely already in the works if not done already). I will be curious to see what they'll do on marathon weeks with a 4.5 hour block as well. Will they run 9 episodes of the same show? I do hope we get that 5 hour movie version of Jack at some point!
  13. That's about what it did last week too. It's a similar drop that it had from Family Guy. Jack is more popular with regular Adult Swim viewers it seems. Hopefully in the coming weeks that can be parlayed into bigger numbers for Super. I was naive in thinking that Jack wouldn't perform well as the lead show! I'm glad that something other that Dragonball can do that! Too bad Jacks only around for 10 weeks!
  14. I figured it would because they may not want to premere a new show at 2:00. Unless for some reason they are stuck with IBO and are not expecting it to do well so they bury it there, but I don't think they'd do that.
  15. Yeah, unfortunately I see that as the point that HxH officially moves to 2am.I think it just got a stay of execution because of Unicorn's poor performance. They'll probably have IBO at 1, Tokyo Ghoul at 1:30, and HxH at 2.
  16. I have a feeling that Jojo might not go right into Stardust Crusaders since Demarco stated previously that it'll probably take a break between seasons. If it doesn't then I have a feeling we'll be seeing Mob Psycho 100 or Attack on Titan season 2. Demarco again last week in an interview mentioned how much he likes Mob. I think they wanted to do it earlier, but it wasn't ready yet so they couldn't put it on. Depending on if they had any recasts, they may not have to do much to those 3 episodes other than change a few of the characters (don't want to name them yet!) that have since been established to have accents (those characters have been confirmed to be keeping the same actors based on what we know so far)along with the narrator (they actually got the guy that narrated MMPR for those episodes!) The most important thing to consider of course, can they play "Walk like an Egyptian"? If not, don't even bother with the show ;D AoT season 2 most likely won't premere May 20th because Memorial Day is the following weekend so they may double up on Kai that week similar to what they did between Dimension W and Gundam IBO. If it isn't coming after Jojo, it'll probably be on June 3rd. Of course that could all go out the window if they feel it is a time sensitive situation and want to get it on ASAP. There is also the off chance that Super will have to take a break at some point. FUNimation is calling the movie adaptions "Season 1" and that was what was said it be running on Adult Swim. They may do that to keep the Dragonball train going a little longer while they are still playing Kai. TheN they can build hype with "All NEW EPISODES".I say as long as the episodes are done keep playing them.
  17. I would like to see them maybe take a small break and put a 12 episode show on just for variety. I figure they'll give Stardust a shot because it encapsulates what Jojo really is. I agree with you in regards to it not being a dub premere right now. As I've said before, the problem now is that once a dub is released in any capacity it shows up on illegal streaming sites. I've seen a tweet right after episode 2 aired directing people who couldn't wait to see the rest to one of those sites saying that the whole things up there to watch right now. This is why I really don't like that FUNImation is releasing all of DBZ KAI TFC on DVD by June. I know it's DBZ, but why couldn't they just wait for Toonami to air it like Viz is doing with HXH? I suppose this is also what concerns me about AOT: that FUNimation will want to put it exclusively on FUNimation NOW! and not let Toonami get it right away. Even a few weeks will allow the episodes to go up on illegal sites and sort of hold back its potential on Toonami! If they can pull it off for late April they have an amazing opportunity to be so close to Japan, I'd hate to see it go to waste.
  18. I don't think it's holding things back as much as people think. Maybe some viewers are watching at 8, skipping 11:30 and watching the rest of Toonami. Some , like me, watch both as well.About 800k( 300k adult )viewers watched at 8pm this week. I don't think everyone of those viewers would watch the 11:30 if 8:00pm didn't exist. I think your mostly hitting 2 different groups of people with different viewing habits. Many people can't watch at 8 due to being out at that time. Others won't be up to watch at 11:30 or casuals will be watching something else. I was worried about how Jack would do out front, but I was dead wrong. I'm just sad it's only for 10 weeks. It's doing great and I'm really enjoying it! It's mostly Kai I'm worried about. Last week there was a big drop off. Not as much this week, but as I've heard on the podcast "not even Dragonball can retain Dragonball"
  19. What I find bizarre as well is that, if TOEI wants the 8pm airing there for kids to watch, then why is it uncensored? I've heard some mild cursing in the show, Mr.Satan, ect... . I think it came down to just this being the compromise they made in order to air the show. Who knows if other networks were even interested though. TOEI has a toy line to sell that is supposedly launching this summer so they want the show accessible to kids. I'm actually surprised they didn't demand that it premiere at 8pm on a weeknight, which would really make the Toonami airing pointless unless it was part of a new Toonami block. But due to what I stated above, its still not a kid censored version of the show and it is still part of "Adult Swim". They basically are counting on kids leaving the TV on past the CN sign off and watching. I'm not sure that the younger kids that TOEI is hoping will buy toys is even there. I think more adults will be buying DB toys : ). If the toyline doesn't sell, then it's possible that they may do a few things: 1) Start showing the censored version of DB Super on another kid channel or syndication if someone wants it. 2) Maybe accept the possibility that DB's primary audience in the US is young adults and teens and just let Toonami run it late at night.
  20. I wonder if they can go to TOEI and see if its possible to switch. If AS thinks it's hurting potential, then maybe they can renogotiate with the next "season". TOEI was still under the impression that children are the primary audience over here. If they don't sell as many toys to kids when the line launches maybe they'll consider it. Unfortunately, I know kids who watch it and they don't even watch it on TV, they watch it on KA, even the dub
  21. Of course I think the 8pm is limiting it somewhat. I also read on various places like Reddit that some people just aren't around at 8 so they watch later. I'm sure others watch 8 and can't stay watch at 11:30. So in some regards I think they capture different audiences, but I'm sure there exists a subset of casual viewers who just watch Super outside of Toonami who would have otherwise watched at 11:30. I wish there was just the one airing though
  22. This is about what I expected Jack to do. I sure hope that it did better than Family Guy again, this show is so damn good it deserves it! What is going on with DBZ KAI? It seems that ever since Toonami started earlier, the ratings it normally got as the first show just shifted over to whatever the new first show was despite it staying in the same timeslot! Seems to be normal drop-offs from KAI on down so far, but when KAI can't hit a million, everything is going to be lower in general Could be that people come for Jack and Super and are just not as big on KAI anymore? I'm curious to see how Super did this week and how well the retention was from Super to Kai. You think that that would have the best chance of retaining that audience it would be those two shows! People have suggested splitting them up, but do they have faith in any show, new or old, retaining the audience better? We'll see in the coming weeks if Tokyo Ghoul and whatever new shows are coming make a difference. Of course, once we get outside of March Madness, it could be a whole new ball game!
  23. Not sure if many people even knew it was going to encore there. I wish they did more to promote it. Especially after the reviews got out saying how good the premere episode was. Still though it's a decent number for weeknight action in prime time! A rerun of a show they own is free to them after all vs a syndicated show like Bob's!
  24. They've been talking about moving him to once a week with more effort on online stuff since that seems to be more of where his fan base is.
