If you're smoking weed today, you should be ashamed.

You're just mad because you have no  :420:

No, I'm mad because this "holiday" is too arbitrary and pointless for me to be as inundated with it as I am every year.

I've smoked it a handful of times in my life. I don't care for it, but I can understand why other people dig it. And I absolutely have no issue with it in any way. But I DO have an issue with idiots being like "GUYS IT'S 4/20 SO WE'RE GONNA SMOKE EVEN THOUGH WE SMOKE ALL THE TIME ANYWAY WOOOO" And then I have to listen to it from people in my life, people in public, people on social media... There's no escaping it.

This stupid wanna-be holiday is truly the only downside to marijuana becoming more accepted in the mainstream.

i mean... if you smoke everyday, why would you specifically not today?

that seems even more ridiculous.

I'm not saying don't smoke today. I'm saying don't act like it's any more meaningful to do it today than it was on September 3rd, or June 26, or December 5th, or any other day on the calendar.

Also, the title of this thread is mostly facetious. But I mean it when I say I hate hearing people tout 4/20 as anything special.

I've never technically smoked weed "because it is 4/20". Like today I probably won't smoke at all even though I did last night into the wee hours of early morning today  :|

Why can't every weed smoker be like that? If you're going to smoke, you just smoke.

Shit man, I don't even care when I see the occasional post on FB like, "Hey, I'm toking up!" or whatever the kids call it these days. :| I'm glad when people find an activity they enjoy. But God mother dammit, the general stoner population are insufferable on 4/20.

Also, in typing this post, I now realize I understand how you feel when TC is suddenly flooded with sports talk.  :P

Just ignore social media for the day then? Most people in real life will just casually mention it, then talk about something else, at least in my experience.

I don't even smoke marijuana anymore, and I really don't like the pothead culture in general, but at the end of the day I really don't give much a shit.

:D

I think part of why I don't really acknowledge it is because I only smoke like 8 times a month  -_'

it's not more meaningful, i don't think people who smoke actually believe that. its just like any other day that people celebrate for fun. i'm not religious or believe in santa, but i still partake in easter and christmas festivities with fam and friends because its enjoyable. thats really all there is to it and anything beyond that just seems to read in too deep when there isn't much to read into.

4/20 can certainly be fun and enjoyable if you are a person to partake. MIlegalize has some pretty great little concerts and awareness events happening around West MI. some of the local volunteer groups are doing benefit events for things like the child abuse council, cancer stuffs, and what not. or even just people getting fucked up, eating food, and celebrating in the company of family and friends. like any other day of celebration that we recap to one another and woot about... just cuz you in particular do not care about this one or hearing about it... doesn't make it different. it just makes you the anti-this day guy.

At least Easter and Christmas have an actual sense of tradition behind it. I would argue that most actual holidays do. Not 4/20. So when I go outside and get bombarded with Christmas this and Easter that, I understand it. I respect it. 4/20 is not on that level, so people should shut up about it.

And yeah, I partially agree that, to an extent, I'm being the "anti-this-day guy." But I also think I'm legitimately right, and people who make a big deal out of 4/20 are legitimately wrong.

well, of course you are going to think you're legitimately right and other people are wrong  :D its inherit that most people can't see past their own biases. we all do it over one thing or another. this is just your thing. still doesn't really make it so. in such cases there is no right or wrong but just opinions based on personal held biases.

as for tradition, well, then couldn't you also say that you are living in the ongoing development of one? whether or not you like it... i'm sure this sort of thing has always happened.
