The article stated that the criminal can refuse the operation and receive 3-5 extra years on their sentence instead. I wonder how many would just opt for that and how would this work for female offenders?

you do the crime you should absolutely be castrated. taking out the ovaries? i don't know how that will deter. but there's the practice of FGM, brutal and sadistic yes. ....

those victims didn't have a say in how they would be violated, so......
