So, you do know approximately how much you need every time you gas up, since, as you said, you're doing this on a regular schedule. How hard is it, then, to just think "hm, usually I need x amount, at current price that would be around Y" and tack on a little extra for good measure? That's kinda the whole point here. It's less that everyone's giving you grief for not knowing how much your tank holds total. Except maybe sponges. Mostly, everyone's just baffled that, in 13 years, you haven't figured out how much gas you need in a typical week. I have no clue how big my gas tank is. But I do know I need roughly 12 gallons every 2 weeks.
NaBabby
Wasn't until I had a car with a broken gas gauge that I learned the value of knowing my car had a 14 gallon tank and got ~25mpg Also taught me the habit of clocking my mileage btwn filling up. What baffles ME is that instead of everyone upvoting one or two posts everyone keeps insisting on asking the same question as everyone else and getting the same response from me each time. What new information do you think you're going to get out of me from asking the same question five other people asked and the same response from me of "It's easy to not know when you don't care and its irrelevant to me." It''s fine if it baffles you but does everyone have to ask the same fucking question like they are the first do do so when a) almost every regular who has posted today has already asked and got a response from me and b) it's not even an important part of the thread? Distortedreasoning
3 hours ago, Doom Metal Alchemist said: Not really. I almost never let it get to the point where the light comes on. When i fill my tank, I generally end up adding anywhere from around 5-9 gallons into my tank. Not purposely getting any of those numbers, it just stops and when I look up it's somewhere in that range. But again, my tank isn't on E, like ever. How much gas was in the tank before I filled up? I don't know. So a random mystery amount + anywhere from 5 to 9 gallons depending equals something I never cared to figure out. but it will save you time by making less trips to the gas station. i got mines down to a science. i know how many times i can go to work and how much i can drive around before i gotta fill up, and how long i can drive on E. its more efficient for me this way. Chapinator_X
I used to pay with cash back when I made an effort to use it for everyday purchases. My Chevy would only need $20 to be mostly full so I’d just say “I need 20 on Pump #_”. It made life easier for me and the cashier to be direct with the cash I have in hand and the pump where my car is at.

I look like a total dink like I don't know what I'm doing because I do it so infrequently. So he tells me to just tell him a dollar amount and whatever doesn't get used goes back to my card. So I think of a number that should for sure fill my tank and say "$50." Sure enough, my tank fills at $40.00 and some change. I got to thinking though, what's to stop people from fucking with this dude and going "Give me one billion dollars worth of gas, please."? If you intended for your tank to be completely full, there is literally no negative consequence. At first I was thinking maybe the cashier would push back and be like, "sir, I cannot do that, give me a reasonable number," but then I thought about it and the cashier has no negative consequence of just rolling with the joke too, if they feel so inclined. But then, I thought of that you could really troll them. Like if your pump is gonna decline my card and make me come inside like it's the fucking dark ages, I'm gonna troll you because fuck you. "Give me one billion dollars worth of gas please. And don't just punch in 100, I want to see you punch that 0 key nine times! You think I won't count, but I will!" No it has not occurred to me to troll someone who already has to deal with regular assholes, and worry about being robbed or the place going up in flames depending on the stupidity of the customer. I think gas stations also seem to get plowed into a lot by cars. In other words, these folks be dealing with some shit, so fucking with them is a super dick move. I thought this was general common knowledge, more so than knowing gas tank capacity. 3
