You go on visits and have coffee and cookies or coffee cake. You have a holiday, there's coffee all around. Someone dies, behold the coffee pot the never frickin' empties because someone is always monitoring it like a premie baby in need of constant feedings. I was drinking coffee by the time I was 5. All the freshly skimmed sweet cream and sugar I wanted, my own china cup and I could sit at the table like a grown-up even though I couldn't see over the top.

A couple years ago when I was a newspaper carrier, I had to stop drinking coffee in the morning, because I had no easy access to bathrooms and it was always a tense race between finding the 24 hour McDonald's and pissing my pants. 1
