Congrats. The act of moving is literally the fucking worst though.

Depends on how you live, moving for me right now is nothing but a few boxes and a few suitcases and not much more than that. Traveling light until I plant some roots.

And congrats to Kudasai, you've leveled up your home. Now it's time to start putting some points into charisma and getting some women over.

If you're renting take pictures of every damn square inch of that place, and get any damage documented before you move in.

Good luck, and enjoy. Living in someone else's place is awful, having your own is amazing if a little terrifying.

You left out the number 1 tip no one ever gave me which was to never watch a scary movie

because then you will have to do a room to room search hoping your wiffle ball bat will stop whatever hell spawn you convinced yourself was now in your home

Yay! Now look into renters' insurance. (It's pretty cheap.)

I did that after I watched The Ring, only with the biggest knife that I had in the kitchen.

Pretty much any horror movie about Demons or The Stranger series freaks me the fuck out and I lose sleep.  I watched the OG "The Strangers" with my old roommate and I'll never forget being so freaked out by the lack of soundtrack in a horror movie so shit just happened and appeared.

It was terrifying, and I'll never forget being more scared than I ever have and one of my old roommates was like "Yo!  Can I crash on your floor tonight because I'm scared?  and I was all "Yeah I guess, but secretly I was like "please stay."

I'm not the most Religious person you'll meet but I recently watched the newest "Conjuring" movie and I was like fuck, fuck, fuck, there's something in one of the empty spare rooms

I don't think Aluminum hats work, I just get super paranoid when I watch a horror movie alone and I'm like "FLASHBANG! BREACH AND CLEAR!  I throw like a glow stick in there and then turn the light on and charge in with my Wiffle Ball Bat and prepare to attempt to kill any threats.

Thats me! We dont watch that kind of stuff unless you spend the night. We watched something that had like an actual recording from an exorcism in the additional features and my friend was like ooooh lets watch it .... i was like you take this dvd and watch it at your house. It prompted you with a prayer of protection too and i was just like ... fuck all that. I already scare easily. So anytime we watch something like that its essential we watch a disney movie and pray immediately after.

and also, plan on cleaning from top to bottom before moving in.

and ask that they replace the toilet seat and shower head.

and ask when the carpets were last replaced. if more than 5 years, demand they steam clean them again.

good luck!

Excellent advice, but don't just document them, you'll want to print the pictures and have the landlord sign & date them.
