The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

Actually, maybe I should've shut my mouth about that. S:

Or Attack on Titan S2.

1. Maybe you should've!  :D :fap:  ::spin:: :fap:  :D

2. I'm still counting on that to replace JoJo, but move up to 11:30, so the DB Hour would slide down to midnight. But I'm not sure how well new Lupin III Part 4 would do at 11 PM after Family Guy. Seems like more of a 12:30 series to me, so there's that. Plus, it might take a little time for AOT S2 so that would mean 11 PM on May 20th. The safest schedule changes are probably ones that don't move shows around, but AOT is less hot on May 20th than it would be on April 29th with a simul-dub, but only JUST. Leaving the DBZ Hour alone, debuting something like Lupin III Part 4 instead (unless JoJo just keeps going, but I kinda doubt it will), and giving Attack on Titan Jack's timeslot would seem to be the best policy. It'd still be a 7-week old simuldub of a super popular series, and deserving of a better timeslot than its 13-month old (at the time) predecessor.

But people will cry "WHY NOT ATTACK ON TITAN!?" even if both timeslots are announced simultaneously. You just can't win!

Because most of us were young and didn't know better. We just watched what was put in front of us out of habit.

Well things were less head-ache inducing back then. No one was out for throats.

Nowadays, everyone is a critic and no one can respect anything and thinks they know best. >_>

Ahead of the ratings report, some good news: another stellar night of trending!

http://toonamifaithful.com/toonami-trending-rundown-for-february-25-26-2017/#disqus_thread

Every show hit #1 in the U.S. and #7 worldwide except for Shippuden, which only reached #8.

Hopefully that means great ratings, but we all know it probably won't. But we'll see tomorrow for sure!

In terms of total viewers and adults 18-49, that's a series high for Unicorn! Pretty good for an episode that was light on action but HEAVY on character development! Not to mention a series high for Super's 8 PM premiere in total viewers which pretty much tied its adults 18-49 number. The only stat these were kinda weak in was 18-34, but even that was better-than-average for 2017 for 3 out of the 4 shows; only Kai was below average.

Of course, these numbers stand to be utterly blown away by the Samurai Jack-fronted lineup in 2 weeks, right? And we'll see more from this past week later!

I'm glad things are looking up this week. Things can only get better with Jack (I hope!). My only concern is that they've decided to drop an episode of Family Guy which could bring things down a little bit, but maybe not.

I'm glad for this episode of Unicorn. My wife (who's still new to anime) and I so far haven't enjoyed this series as much as IBO because of the lack of character development. I get a little more out of it because I know UC Gundam and have explained as much as I could to help her understand it.  I feel in order to grab the casual audience , you need to care about the characters or at least find them entertaining or funny. I think this is why shows like Inuyasha, SAO, FMA, KLK, and Aot do so well with large number of viewers.

In the case of Jojo, I feel that many people  saw the beginnings of part 1, didn't like it and never came back. Part 1 was  dry in character development and lacked the humor of part 2 that makes Jojo so ridiculously entertaining. I made her stick it out and as a result she really enjoys what she's watching now. But it took me looking ahead a bit to see what was coming and telling her to wait. I really wish that Toonami would have done a separate promo for part 2 in order to let viewers who didn't like part 1 know it is something different.. But viewers may finally be catching on to it.

I remember some people being down on IBO for being light on action some episodes, but it was those talky episodes that allowed us to get to know these people and be a little more attached to their outcome. Same thing with HXH, they've given us a reason to care about the main characters individual goals.  So far, in this show, you just get dropped in the middle of a conflict over Laplace's box without really getting to know the characters and what they are all about.

I agree. Maybe that's why Episode 8 seemed to do so well; it slowed the action down a little and gave us the opportunity to know the characters and their motivations. However, what's interesting is TWO OVAs came out before episode 8, which is part of the 3rd OVA! Apparently the lack of backstory didn't hurt theatrical releases of the first two OVAs in Japan!

TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 881,375

Highest total viewers average yet in 2017, and 2nd highest average in 2017 for 18-49. That's pretty darn good, but I have a feeling what Toonami can do with new Samurai Jack will do as the flagship show will dwarf it. Moving on to the current show averages:

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 380,278 (18 episodes)

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 312,375 (8 episodes)

Not really much to say here. Unicorn still looks feeble compared with the averages of its surrounding shows, and I don't see that changing. That's really unfortunate, because it was long-awaited.

Looks like the Jack rerun is just gone on March 18th, replaced by Bob's Burger's. It looks like they will also be KEEPING both of the Family Guys as well in the 10:00 PM hour. Bummer as I was hoping they will at least rerun the new Jack in that timeslot, but maybe they would like to see how it performs first. I also wished it would continue so Super would have something paired with it in the 8:00 PM hour. It's doing well in both timeslots. I still wonder how it would do if it was only at 11:30.

What weird titles for the new Samurai Jack episodes. We ended the original run with "LII", or 52, but now here's what we have:

3/11/17 - "XCII" which is "92" in Roman numerals

3/18/17 - "XCIII" which is "93" in Roman numerals

I wonder why the jump--could it be consistent with the timeskip? I wish they had gone with a different scheme for the last 10 episodes, and this one apparently ends at "CI," or 101, so it really doesn't make much sense. I don't get it.

I figured it's because we are going  later on in Jack's life. Kind of like how Star Wars started with "Episode IV". It's to represent the part of his journey that we haven't been witness too. Weird, they only went 40 numbers up when it's 50 years in the future! It would make more sense just to skip 50 numbers!

Also, "Sandwhale and Me" will be on at Midnight on 3/18 in front of DBZ KAI, which will start at 12:05 AM!

Ratings have been going down since around last October, I notice.  I can attribute this to a couple theories.  GUNDAM Unicorn is kind of boring and can only be enjoyed if you seen like 8 other whole animes, and DB Super is kind of an odd way to open the block if you didn't know anything about what happened in the Buu saga or Battle of Gods. Plus it's less action so far, it's more like the comedic moments of Dragonball.

Yes, I'm back. I said I would never return to the AS Boards the last time I left.  .... I said nothing about going to a NEW board.  I probably won't post in this thread if at all, considering I didn't really have fun doing that in the old boards.  I'm just posting this to let you all know.

It should be my job to notice that but sadly, I never have.  You're the first person who mentioned it to me. :D  I think it has to do with me not remembering that Bleach even had a narrator until I recalled the recaps that opened an episode in the middle of a heated arc.

It took me a few episodes, but you better believe I noticed! More along the lines of "if he was talking and I looked away, my brain briefly thought I was watching Bleach!"

Back to ratings: There's not really a point in arguing which show should be before which other show to improve the ratings because tastes are different for everyone.  Me, I mentioned I can't get into GUNDAM Unicorn due to massive continuity lockout, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventures go by so fast it's not a show designed for you to watch WHILE livetweeting or commenting during it!  Hunter x Hunter should definitely be airing earlier though.  It's also probably whatever's airing before Toonami, and the DB Super encore at 8 PM may not encourage faithfuls to see the same episodes during Toonami proper.

It's been so long since I've seen Bleach I've forgotten what its narrator sounds like. But still, I can totally see it now.

Bleach is still fresh in my mind considering I draw one page of a Bleach doujin with another old member per week on average.

Yes, but ALL THAT CHANGES once Samurai Jack hits the lineup at 11 PM! BTW, do you remember what the last time an action show aired at 11 PM Saturday nights was and what that show was?

November 1, 2008 was the last Saturday night with an action show at 11:00 PM.  This was the schedule.  Shows marked with * were new.

Yeah, even if the ratings aren't as great as they used to be, we're in a MUCH better place now! BTW, that's not QUITE right; the first 2 AM hour was action and the 2nd was DST comedy filler. I think it was Halloween ATHF but I'm not sure. That might have been the following year!

It will be interesting to see if Jack outrates Bleach from 8.5 years ago, but I'm pretty sure it will!

I think I'd axe the entire block except for Kai and JoJo at this point.

Let's see how Jack does first.

I would love nothing more than a mass culling of the long runners.  They're just so, to borrow a phrase, low energy.  Boring.  No hype.
