How do you feel about all the new technology?

Really any uploaded immortal mind would be like a copy. You’d probably need to keep the brain alive in a jar or something to have an immortal matrix thing going on.

unless we learn something major about consciousness/the soul/essence/mojo that contradicts what I just said

So I feel like that whole thing about uploading old people into a collective old/dead people cloud thing is a waste of time because the real "you" isn't even enjoying it. Unless its to benefit the people you leave behind. Like in that "BRB" episode.

Pretty much. It’d have to be more like the nursing home planet in futurama.

And everyone was like “Hey here’s more of my money. Would you like some of my data too? Wanna know where I live cuz I’m fine with that.”

And from there, they were like, "Hey guys, LOVING the data! This'll help us stop the terrorists. Say, you wouldn't mind if we tied everything you do to ONE ACCOUNT? That way, you can give us your information while you take a shit outside your home, while you play app games, and while you're sleeping". And the public rejoiced.

And then they were saying, "Dudes, these smart phones are great and all, but what if we compromise your identity THROUGH YOUR PHONES? We'll throw in face/fingerprint reading technology, AND, while we're at it, make you pay extra for expensive specialty headphone jacks that our underpaid labor in China handcrafts for us! Great deal, huh?" And the public gave an astounding "Yes!"

I'm ready for GITS type bodies and interfaces.

Being born with a ton of physical problems, I'm ready to ditch this one.

I support this.

Though I feel the tech is already here.

Intelligent sex dolls are the least of our concern when it comes to AI's gaining control. If I owned one it'd just give me an excuse to beat my wife if the programming went haywire. I could test a few improvised weapons and win/win..That is unless those dolls start coming equipped with machine gun nipples like on Austin Powers..

I see graphs like this for uncanny valley all the time and wonder what lies beyond human likeness -- how the graph might continue past "healthy person"

also slightly weirded out by "healthy"

Is an unhealthy person less human?

But I'm also curious about the bunraku puppet, how a directly-human-controlled figure comes closer to human likeness than an android, which ideally displays autonomy and ideally passes the Turing test.

"Healthy person" is a spectrum, which is why you see it continue past it a little bit.

If it passes the Turing Test.....then it's human.

As someone who edits audio and video, yeah, I'd say I do. And real sex dolls is where my line for the uncanny valley is.

When a robot is passable enough that it’s not creepy anymore, it will fall on the other side of the valley in the chart. What issue do you have with that statement? I honestly don’t get what you have a problem with?

If AI can pass the Turing Test, it qualifies as human?
I mean, I'm all for granting something with that level of sentience a pass at being a person,
but what a strange thing that would do for so many things, species classification included.
That also likely severely redraws the parameters of the uncanny valley graph.

I'm okay with it being around but I don't use it or own it.

I still use cds, a flip phone, dvd/vhs player, and a vhs player.  I have a 2011 Apple computer which still works great.

Better than any Windows computer that I ever owned and it hasn't gotten viruses like they did.  Have never owned a tablet or really wanted one.

I'd basically only want a smart phone for video games, but I'm still happy with my Nintendo 3DS so I'm going to wait awhile on that.  Plus the new smart phones are expensive and I'm pretty cheap.

The thing is, once we see something as sentient, we no longer see it as just a robot, but as a creature.
