Naraku4656 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 except i'm terrified of absolutely ruining whatever i practice on
StarPanda Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I'm sure you can pay someone and they will let you practice on a shit car
molarbear Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Honestly it's not worth it imo if it's just a bucket list thing though try finding someone with diesel truck that has a manual in it, those are good starters
Naraku4656 Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 idk it just seems like one of those things i should do
molarbear Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I personally think they're a pain in the ass if you're lazy automatic is the way to go
CAC Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Yeah but no good cars are auto, if you even want something fun learn the manual.
Naraku4656 Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 that's why i want to. i like fun cars but i'm a lazy ass person
mthor Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I love a manual transmission. There's just this feeling of total control when you wrap your hand around that stick...
Naraku4656 Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 I love a manual transmission. There's just this feeling of total control when you wrap your hand around that stick... and what are you doing tonight
bnmjy Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 You can search craigslist for someone willing to teach you lessons with their car, I'm sure. You have the disposable income for it after all.
Naraku4656 Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 You can search craigslist for someone willing to teach you lessons with their car, I'm sure. You have the disposable income for it after all. why does everyone here think i have money cus i don't
Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 except i'm terrified of absolutely ruining whatever i practice on Truck or Jeep... short gear ratios make it easier.
Naraku4656 Posted June 19, 2017 Author Posted June 19, 2017 Truck or Jeep... short gear ratios make it easier. with all the money i don't have
Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 with all the money i don't have Make Jeep friends
Naraku4656 Posted June 19, 2017 Author Posted June 19, 2017 i'm sure they'll be willing to let me ruin their car
Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 i'm sure they'll be willing to let me ruin their car Jeep clutches only get ruined if you use the clutch in deep muddy water.
Naraku4656 Posted June 19, 2017 Author Posted June 19, 2017 or if you routinely stall out the engine because you keep forgetting to change gears
Sieg67 Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Let off gas, push in clutch, shift. Practice the motion in an arm chair or something.
Top Gun Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Or find an old Cruisin' USA arcade cabinet and go to town.
Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 or if you routinely stall out the engine because you keep forgetting to change gears No, riding the clutch ruins it. Changing gears without the clutch can ruin the transmission... if you don't rev-match.
Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Or find an old Cruisin' USA arcade cabinet and go to town. All the ones I ever played had a shifter but no third pedal
Naraku4656 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 No, riding the clutch ruins it. Changing gears without the clutch can ruin the transmission... if you don't rev-match. but if you engage the clutch too quickly, the engine stalls. and knowing my luck that's what would happen
molarbear Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 but if you disengage the clutch too quickly, the engine stalls. and knowing my luck that's what would happen ftfy
Naraku4656 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 ftfy is it disengage? i always though engaging it too quickly stalled it
NaBarney Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 So you don't have any practical reason for wanting to learn and you can't conceive of a way to do so anyway. Why care about learning how then
NaBarney Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Is this actually just about lamenting your dad having never taught you when you were a kid, or what, bc there are options available to you for learning this unnecessary skill. I taught a friend how to drive a car by letting them use mine, I'm sure a friend would be willing to teach you this. If not, pay someone. These are your options.

Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 but if you engage the clutch too quickly, the engine stalls. and knowing my luck that's what would happen If you'd like to disengage too quickly, just floor it. Instant burnout. Or in my car's case, instantly sideways burnout.

Almost all 18 wheelers and dump trucks are stick. UPS and FedEx still uses a clutch in some trucks. Wanna ride a motorcycle? Guess what, you have to learn how to shift and use a clutch.. just with different ligaments controlling different things. Want your vehicle to get awesome mileage? Buy the manual. This rant is brought to you by #savethemanuals
1pooh4u Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Let off gas, push in clutch, shift. Practice the motion in an arm chair or something. But when do you shift? Only answers I ever got was, "Don't worry you'll know" "You'll hear it" and "You'll feel it" >
Sieg67 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Tachometer. Use that at first and you'll eventually start feeling it out. Like I drive an auto and I know when it's about to switch gears.
Rogue_Alphonse Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 But when do you shift? Only answers I ever got was, "Don't worry you'll know" "You'll hear it" and "You'll feel it" > It becomes muscle memory. Like I can legit get in any type of car or truck and drive it. Dog leg first gear is a transmission I have come to adore...
