  1. Hopefully that was just your undergrad.
  2. I think there probably are quite a few sincere holocaust deniers, if only because psychosis makes denial possible without altering the core bigotry. It’s important to remember that antisemitism is like any other form of racism: it’s not primarily an overt bias - it expresses itself in biased framing of mundane or readily observable behavior. When an antisemite experiences psychosis, they can fully believe that the genocide of Jewish people is a lie without first having an irrational hate for them. That’s because the underlying attitude that Jews are angry and overreact is readily portrayed through the narrow prism of journalism, without any express commentary, and can be rationalized. Bigotry always disguises itself respectability.
  3. $1,700 doesn’t seem bad to me, at least not for new instrument, but that wouldn’t include the amp. What’s one of those going to run?
  4. You're not going to get a shitty guitar like that from BMG or Gibson. When you're guitar shopping, what features do you look for and why?
  5. Playing a guitar isn't like playing a trumpet, so it's hard to gauge. The workmanship on a trumpet matters greatly, but not if you're a shitty trumpet player to begin with. I would imagine that the guitar matters less to sound at the upper level of guitar musicianship, aside from the various electrical components.
  6. So there's no sound penalty?
  7. What would be the primary difference between a Professional and a Studio model? My experience is with brass and the differences are easy to identify because the difference in price between a professional and an intermediate model comes down almost entirely to workmanship.
  8. Well, not his actual custom instrument. It's the design he came up with his dad originally because he couldn't afford the commercially available instruments at the time.
  9. For the record and since absolutely no one asked.... it looks like new Les Pauls are roughly the same price as a professional level wind instrument (in the $2-3k range) while the Red Special is in line with most intermediate level wind instruments (around $1k). That's neither here nor there, of course, but you would naturally compare each instrument to others in the same price range as a starting point.
  10. I think those are Brian May Guitars, so it's the custom he built for himself originally.
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. This thread is sending chills down my spine.
  13. That’s a really stupid question by the way.
  14. I’m sending D-Lo and Rui over to launch bricks at Buddy’s house.
  15. You would have known that if you played fantasy ball with us.
  16. It is. Unsurprisingly, President Folt isn't really playing with any of this because it's a bit much. That being said, USC also hasn't been transparent with the protestors about where their funds are invested and being forthcoming about that is really important even if it's not something that can be changed.
  17. I don't want to get to personal with it. He's playing by a well established political playbook and, were it not for the fact that the IDF has proven to be wholly incompetent, his political instincts would be more of an academic point than anything.
  18. Fuck. I mean, that checks out, but still.
  19. I dunno man, I mean comparing me to that dude.... Aw hell. Apology accepted. *cranks up sound to ear splitting level*
  20. Ok, now you're just being mean.
  21. In the US, everything is heavily regulated, but a lot of swordfish comes from Mexico, where regulations aren't quite as good. It's especially true for fish that's imported into the middle of the country. You have a better shot of getting safer and responsibly caught fish on the coasts where you have a more direct line to local fisherman. Indeed. The key is that all three you mentioned are higher up the food chain. For similar reasons larger members of the tuna family (Pacific Blue or Yellowtail, for instance) have a higher risk of heavy metal because the primarily consume smaller fish and crustaceons that might be exposed to it though coastal toxic waste dumps or territorial water effluence. It's become less of an issue as first world nations have been taking a concerted effort to clean up their discharge and make improvements in stormwater mitigation. Still, in general, it's best to avoid the predator fish from pelagic waters unless you live close to the ocean. As an aside, Halibut is also a high level predator fish. However, it comes from colder waters, meaning its mostly harvested form areas where there is less toxic effluence.
  22. UCLA is now threatening to clear out the protest encampment. I think Columbia’s escalation spooked them.
