Should I take it up several notches? I dropped one of my rare f-bombs on the podcast regarding this. I’m mostly annoyed IGPX is getting pulled but make no mistake, DBZ returning to Toonami and wasting any amount of the budget is one of the things I least wanted to happen. I prefer it over having less than 3 hours, getting DBS or GT and getting Daima (but not over original DB) but not much else that was in the realm of possibility. All things considered I think Guy isn’t being anywhere near as obnoxious about this as they have been in the past. There’s nothing wrong with being passionate about media and even this barely acknowledged TV block and being critical of it. We don’t just have to accept the reality nod our heads and smile. Not that I think you even think that way but it’s okay to just let folks vent even if it won’t accomplish anything productive. Also booh to the mods, my thread title was way better!

Hey remember in the Q&A when DeMarco said DBZ returning was definitely possible… Yeah it’s already happening and IGPX leaves after episode 13 aka the end of part 1. Before you say maybe IGPX needs more time, according to Jose it was ready to air a complete run of all 26 episodes. This is probably a great deal from Toei and their long-term solution for replacing Naruto but no matter what amount of their budget they spent on this, I consider it a waste of money for after 2am. They could have shifted up subbed Ninja Kamui or doubled up One Piece if IGPX actually did hit a snag. But nah, DBZ is back to save the day. I’m only glad it is at 2:30am after the premieres but they should run it at 7pm or even 5pm on weekdays if Toei wants it back on TV so badly.

Very cheeky DeMarco. He knew it was coming back this month and teased it here. -

Here's the only other review I've found and it's rather glowing. Are they on Adult Swim's pay roll? I'm sure not. https://comicbook.com/anime/news/ninja-kamui-review-adult-swim-preview/#:~:text=Ninja Kamui feels like the,on its vicious revenge story. -
Ninja Kamui releases 2 minute preview ahead of February 10 premiere
Sketch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I've seen the first two episodes (in Japanese actually because that's what they sent) Here's my thoughts https://toonamifaithful.com/testing/ninja-kamui-preview/ -
Sakura deserves a good punch too if not all of those girls who talk shit about Takina. It's a good thing Takina could removed from DA and eventually she'll be able to see that for herself. Watching Chisato toy with those brats while she waiting for Takina to join her was reeeeeeeeal satisfying. I've seen the next episode and ya'll are not ready for the hijinks in that one.

They had better. But beyond Adult Swim's own promotion and a few articles on anime centric websites there's hardly any hype for Ninja Kamui whether that's fair or not. Regarding Adult Swim's own promotion and lack there of... WBD is such a poorly run company that we first heard when Ninja Kamui would air via an Adult Swim Latin America press release. While it was arguably adequate to promote this new anime starting on February 10th on their social media on January 17th (24 days in advance) they just promoted Royal Crackers season 2 (34 days in advance). And one could argue it's more important to promote something entirely new than a returning show. I suppose Japanese co-productions might have some hang-ups with getting air dates secured and announced sooner but they could strive to do better than that. Compare that to the rest of the anime industry where dates are set much sooner and promoted much sooner. Netflix still lacks in that regard but they're getting better at giving adequate notice for when shows are dropping on the service. Credit where it's due though, Toonami is considerably better about pre-notice than Crunchyroll tends to be about when their English dubs will start streaming. Often giving only a few days notice and sometimes not even promoting the drop date before they stream, only giving the vague mention that a show's dub premiere is TBD. And they seem to largely rely on actors to promote their own role announcements because unlike with Toonami broadcasts the dub credits aren't required to be attached to the streaming simuldubs. Crunchyroll pisses me off daily at this point.

Trailer is up Sounds like a Sentai Studios dub, that’s definitely Luci Christian as the female investigator and a few other voices sounds familiar but none I can pin down. They changed the MCs design and got rid of the blonde hair and beard. Action choreography looks great and it’s 2D animation. The story is generic but hopefully it’s not bad.

I do hope that’s counted as a new broadcast by technicality so we can see how it does. This sort of experiment with their original anime is long overdue. While it makes no sense to license a subbed anime with their meager budget it’s just wasting money to have access to a subbed version and not at least try airing it. People are at least a lot more willing to watch subs via streaming than they were a decade ago. Linear TV isn’t the same but it’s worth a shot. That said, a 3am broadcast is practically worthless as a data point. We’ll never know how well a sub of an anime could do at midnight based on a pseudo encore at 3am. But I can’t blame them for not airing the sub pseudo encore any earlier in the block. They know that wouldn’t go over well even if it might produce more useful data. Obviously they expect the Toonami audience to be the only part of their viewership that would check out subbed Ninja Kamui but imagine if they ran the sub at 1am or even midnight on another night? Maybe pair it with the premiere of RickAnime on Thursday or Friday?

Whether or not the recap episodes get dubbed and aired on Toonami will decide if MHA can replace Ninja Kamui on May 4th or wait until June. Also if Demon Slayer continues into Swordsmith and Lycoris doesn’t air the week of the Entertainment District Finale nor the Swordsmith premiere (ie it takes two weeks off before resuming) it would end the same week as Ninja Kamui. I could see them do a NK marathon on May 4th to buy a week but it’s probably not necessary. If they don’t preempt it, then IGPX ends the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. Superman might return by May and Scavengers is another option. Of course they’ll have another big hole to fill if Demon Slayer doesn’t continue into Swordsmith in March.

And they are indeed a week behind. Which is pretty pointless.

If they’re showing it on a week delay they’re probably not gonna get many simulcast watchers to switch. Meanwhile Netflix only viewers won’t have a clue what’s going on if they only just finished Marineford. That said, it’s just nice to see another weekly simulcast on Netflix even if it’s a week behind. But if this is actually same day as Japan and they just aren’t starting that till next week then they might be able to draw simulcast viewers away from other platforms.

Mashle is bonified Weekly Shounen Jump actually but I didn’t realize season 2 was about to begin broadcasting in Japan this weekend.
