Yeah, it happened in NYC and blew up in the news at the same time as the state budget starts getting put together, so even though it's not a fiscal thing the Governor decided to add it in. And the particular facts of this case have prevented the law from adequately prosecuting the case because the two officers were contesting the victim's absence of consent. By making this a form of statutory rape, consent is irrelevant to the crime, and it becomes easier to prosecute the defendant charged with the rape of a victim in their custody.

It still has to pass though. A lot of things can happen between now and when the budget is due April 1, and the final budget won't have everything that's in the executive budget proposal (and will have things that aren't in the executive budget proposal).

The governor actually added penal language in response to this in his budget amendments this week. Without doing any research it looks like it is being added to the statutory rape law. So basically if enacted it means if someone is in custody of an officer, they cannot legally consent and it is by definition rape no matter any other circumstances.

I think the farthest I got was the fiery level as adult simba, I don't know if it was the final level or not. the game was like bugged or something, because every time you pressed the center of the d-pad, the game would reset to the title screen. and if you remember, there were a TON of climbing sections where you had to jump from left to right to left to right. so i would reset the game virtually at some point literally every time I played, but I couldn't figure out why and it was really frustrating that I'd get to like the timon & pumbaa level and then the game would reset. I didn't figure it out until I was older and I tried the game for nostalgia's sake. that was the only time I ever played as adult simba because I could never get that far as a kid without the game resetting.

That's not a bad idea. Obviously the goal is some sort of "benign" perk. So it's kind of like donating as a "subscription" for a custom rank. I don't think rep is tied to anything else, so it would just be a visual marker to show of how much you've contributed. Is that enough to continue donating? I guess that's my question.

basically what scoob said. don't overthink it. if you have money to burn and feel like donating, feel free. as you can see by the donation pool if you check the link, we've received donations in the past 24 hours ranging from $100 to $1.69 so there's no requested ask. anything donated is appreciated (thanks for those who have already donated thus far!). but if someone is in a position of financial weakness - like mountains of debt or unemployment, please please please don't donate to us rather than pay your own bills. but that should go without saying, because we're talking about voluntary donations.

Hello! We have two little bits of news for you today: The first is that @KN has set up a PaypPal Donation Pool where members can voluntarily contribute to the costs of hosting the site. You can check out the discussion thread for more details. Second, the site will go dark briefly for maintenance and software upgrades in the next week or so. The goal is to take care of business quickly, and do it on off-peak hours. We will definitely provide notice to give everyone a heads up. @KN or I will follow up with further details when we have more information to provide.

Also, we're still toying with fun, workable ways to reward members for donating (beyond us continuing to exist for their personal enjoyment), so if you have any ideas please shout them out. I had the thought to make custom ranks a donation reward, like donating a certain dollar amount grants you a custom rank for X weeks or months. But at the same time I'm hesitant to tell everyone with a JMC-approved custom rank that the old party boat has docked. So, thoughts and whatnot.
