Polygon Pictures is doing the Pacific Rim Black anime, Pacific Rim is now dead
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
Toonami grabs JoJo ASAP to keep it off Netflix as long as they can, despite it doing mediocre ratings. Mostly because JoJo does do good business for Netflix. -
It helps that Hancock's antics were played for comedy from the get-go for the most part, while Hibana was presented as a serious adversary for her first several appearances. There is something to be said about making the yandere a darker skinned woman, but it's nowhere near enough to overcome her considerable writing faults.

It's the Bleach of this era, fun premise and characters unfortunately hampered by occasional issues. Maki is best girl.

Powerhouse continues to try to make anime-like shows, find no one cares
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
Where is Peter Chung these days? And Netflix should stick with their Japanese studios or find licenses for Powerhouse to work with. Because their originals - -

Video game licenses. And Castlevania has a ton of problems thanks to said sex pest. It’s their originals that no one cares about, if that makes sense. -
Not even because of lack of quality, just...no one cares. Their latest, Blood of Zeus, is a take on Greek myth getting positive reviews across the board. But hype is non-existent. I feel like there's a distrust of action animation done by Americans. By Americans distrusting other Americans. Their last attempt at a non-video game license not written by a sex pest named Warren Ellis was Seis Manos and it's been all but cancelled despite positive reviews and a high profile cast.

Who cares?! Pierrot was not one of the studios involved in the deal. THEY DO NOT MATTER. -

Fuck Pierrot, they aren't part of this anyway. And get one of the non-Mir studios a proper IP to animate. Oh if only... -

Well, it’s not like they’re working with Pierrot. -

It’s a shame the story it’s attached to is Black Clover. Of course that brings up the question of if these will be original properties or existing IP’s. -

There are a decent amount of fan redesigns that do the machine justice and the initial design isn’t terrible, but the action scenes and the like are shite. If you’re gonna do a robot show, hire people who care about them. Give Obari a check. The design will kick ass even if the writing is bleh. Magic Knight Rayearth? The mechanical designs were his, one of the rare instances of CLAMP getting male help on a core part of production. -

Their mechanical designs and animation for such were shite, not helped by the EP’s not giving a shit and just wanting to make another Avatar. Fuck Voltron. -

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-10-22/netflix-announces-new-partnerships-with-naz-science-saru-mappa-studio-mir/.165506 Studio Mir sucks but everything else looks fun. It’s becoming more and more clear Netflix sees anime as a huge part of their value proposition as the streaming wars record their first major casualty in Quibi.

Venture Bros creators discuss legacy and cancellation with NPR
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It might be easier given the new executives, but when Brendon Small tried to do that with Metalocalypse, Mike Lazzo’s response was to give him the finger and refuse any financial offer for the rights as a “fuck you” to Small. -
Baseball playoffs and a cable TV unification boxing match against something Toonami’s viewers do not want to see. Was anyone surprised by this? Everyone is voting. Everyone gets it now. No one needs to be reminded, since odds are they already went to the polls or are waiting for said polls to open up.
