  1. This schedule shows how much of a lame duck Toonami is as a block, more or less a guideline of what shows to watch on Hulu or Netflix or what have you. MHA was like...the one comic to get a boost from Avengers Endgame and it can’t bring in an audience because said audience has already watched it elsewhere. And now we have Food Wars, never seen it, negative interest, but it’s supposed to bring in viewers? I think it’s time we accept it’s the block.
  2. And to think, this Saturday is an ESPN card with a pretty good main event. The ratings pain will continue until they can generate actual hype.
  3. That and you know, airing materials that are either available elsewhere, or were on the market for extensive times thinking it’s still 2004 and we have no other way of watching them besides waiting till they’re on DVD and marching down to Best Buy for unreasonably expensive DVD sets.
  4. Another week, another set of ratings in the garbage. What else is new?
  5. The old dub sucked too. This just sucks for different reasons.
  6. Kakegurui XX 1 The gambling is crazier, the women are hornier for gambling, and the POV guy seems even more superfluous. But you need someone sane in the cast.
  7. Sure they’re relevant - Six months to two years prior when everyone has already finished watching! You can air stuff that was popular two quarters ago but odds are good it’s literally yesterday’s news, or you air it at such a terrible time that when it gets to Netflix it suddenly gains a gigantic amount of popularity that wasn’t present before (like JoJo). The boat keeps getting missed. Let’s use the most popular anime of winter and spring as a good example - The Rising of the Shield Hero. Odds are good anyone interested in the show that is directly interested in Toonami, i.e.: active fans of the medium has watched it because it was the most popular show on dedicated anime apps. Toonami will not attract passive fans because of its awful timeslot. That being said, Hulu and Netflix airings of Shield Hero will attract passive fans because it’s being mixed in with sitcoms and that mini golf reality show (actual thing ABC is airing).
  8. Yeah, and odds are it would have flopped on its damn face too. Fuck that stupid statue. Live action movie. I don’t see Fairy Tail getting one of those ever.
  9. They’re airing stuff that’s been on the market for months with relatively little hassle to get to. What did they expect?
  10. Digging through conversations with the translators and full blame on this one is Studio Khara. They insisted on literal translations and were incredibly hands on during the dubbing process. This actually does make sense. Remember 3.0 and how they essentially threw the dub out, fired all the actors by proxy and told FUNi to start over?
  11. Still on Hulu. Dubbed. Just saying, I don’t see a lot of demand.
  12. Alright, that’s fine. The context of the scene apparently is still homoerotic but confused because Karwou is well...Karwou. The outrage is unwarranted as a representation issue IMO because the outlying homoeroticism is there, which is admittedly the point.
  13. You don’t throw out an accusation like that without receipts.
  14. Ok, so the original script had the idea that Kawrou was ambiguous owing to his ambiguous nature (you know, not being human!) The idea that said ambiguity made the connection subtext rather than text was supposed to highlight Shinji’s confusion. So of course the Twitter imbeciles whine and moan about it because this is 2019 and fuck all of them.
  15. You spent all this money and you couldn’t license a few songs? At least engage in some stunt casting. But no...
  16. I got bored after one and apparently THIS is the last season? More coma crap? Just let Archer and Barry kill each other.
  17. What was their competition that night? A Tyson Fury showcase fight? This is in line with the study showing even the Japanese market embracing streaming after a much slower adoption period, and that is cutting into “destination” TV like Toonami vs “passive Tv” like the comedies.
  18. True, but there’s sitcom antics and then there’s organizing teacher strikes -

  20. The Rising of the Shield Hero 12-15.
  21. And who can forget when Zack kidnapped a Russian chess champion during the fading days of the Cold War?

  23. It’s not the image either. Error.
  24. An entire web series dedicated to Adult Swim veteran Saved by the Bell and how its lead character was trash. And yes it was an Adult Swim Show.
  25. This isn’t something one can blame on then UFC, because it’s clearly a structural issue, with most going “I can watch Super on demand but the fights are live.”
