  1. Man, Seinfeld kicked ass. ”What’s the deal with live action anime?”
  2. And we have our Kuwabara - No word on other characters and their announcements. Keiko and Botan most notably.
  3. New trailer, with more of Heihachi being evil Mas Oyama (most full contact karate masters in fiction take their cues from Oyama, the late founder of Kyokushin Karate) and 2D/3D mixing reminiscent of Godzilla Singular Point.
  4. You know Borderland and Yu Yu have the same production company? Apparently Yu Yu’s director worked on Borderland with Shinsuke Sato (who last I checked was tapped to make a MHA film for Legendary).
  5. Fresh from a bunch of LA projects including Gantz and Prince of Tennis.
  6. Kurama is played by an actor whose prior credits are tokusatsu, particularly ToQger.
  7. For what it's worth, I trust Toho a lot more than I trust Tomorrow Studios. This is the same studio that employed Akira Kurosawa, so they have the pedigree.
  8. As much as I like Alice in Borderland, I will always be weary of these adaptations, especially Yu Yu Hakusho, which despite attempts at commentary through its arc, is still unabashedly shounen. Bebop’s a dead horse but Netflix REALLY wants its anime adaptations to be the new comic book adaptation since we have all but exhausted the comic book well.
  9. Adult Swim’s bumps were either irreverent jokes or making fun of anime fans back in the day. I don’t see the issue.
  10. First promotional images as the cast is set to be revealed over the next few days. Given Netflix and live action anime go together like showers and car batteries though, especially after the Bebop fiasco, no one is happy.
  11. S2 of Primal and Yashahime will both hit before the end of the month. Given the size of the block, that’s probably going to be enough to carry it through to the fall and beyond.
  12. Primal Season 2 might be the boost the block needs, even if the episodes aren’t first run.
  13. No clue how this will affect Illumitoon doing the Mario movie.
  14. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-07-14/new-urusei-yatsura-anime-unveils-more-cast-1st-season-half-year-run-without-breaks/.187662 This is shaping up to be fairly ambitious, a four cour anime running for half a year, then taking a break before the second half.
  15. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/digital/nintendo-pictures-content-based-on-ip-mario-1235180366/ Nintendo, since the mid 90s, has traditionally been reluctant to feature their characters in spin off material. A Kirby show there, an F-Zero show there, but for the most part they never bothered with a full court press. That is changing. There’s a Nintendo theme park being built as part of Universal Studios (the Japanese branch opened already), the Mario movie is coming out next year, and this seems to be pushing that further.
  16. I think Succession is the favorite. Old dudes, political drama, and it’s Murican.
  17. There was an interview at AnimeExpo with the people handling it. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2022/anime-expo/interview-with-the-staff-of-trigun-stampede/.187182 There was a notable bit of dialogue about not alienating people because this is a pre-existing franchise. Sadly it does not appear to be a full on Trigun Maximum adaptation.
  18. Pearl Harbor won an Oscar for sound design. Sometimes these awards find what they think are gems in the dirt.
  19. That might be a valid strategy - Go over the licensor’s heads to point out the need for terrestrial TV. Not sure how it would work though. Still beats the alternative, DeMarco begging CR for help. Baby come back! You can blame it all on me! I was wrong, and the block can’t live without you…
  20. Meanwhile Robot Chicken got nominated in short form, but again, tough competition.
