I wish I had waited a bit before diving into college. I think taking a year or so off from school can be good for a teenager. I agree on the working in the mean time, too. Always helps for a dose of reality if nothing else. My dad pressured me into college the month I graduated high school to pursue a degree in something he was interested in but I wasn't. He had me stack classes so I'd essentially be in my senior year two years after starting. Burnt me out hard. I was maintaining the grades but was unable to do literally anything else. It all ended poorly when he pulled my funding for being a "fag" and I couldn't afford that school and had no real job experience. Wound up taking out student loans to fund myself through a terrible college for a degree I liked but had no job market where I was. I really do wish he would have given me what you're talking about giving your kid. Just a little time to drink in the real world and watch my peers and learn from their experiences before diving in myself.

I actively play all 3 consoles buuut Xbox is a mixed bag. Lots play Overwatch and Destiny 2 or even Fortnite. Other than that it's just a hodgepodge of whatever people wanna play. PlayStation I mostly see ryan, Vicki, and Heshi. Sometimes Docto or Kehotik. Destiny 2 is popular there, too. As for Switch I believe it is almost exclusively Smash bros.

Most people in the Xbox group still play frequently.

I was sort of similar. Had a second account I used more than the one people know me by now. It had roughly 20,000 posts. Never told anyone who I was except Arcturus, CJ, and Humbug. It was super active from 2004-2006 and then I ditched it for the most part. Started lurking hard. Celldweller, my 2003 account, had under 2,000 posts when we left Lithium. Already have more from here and the previous forum we had before coming over to this board. I guess I opted to talk on IMs and later PMs on the site versus on the forum itself. Wound up a liaison for CJ and Buddha (I think?). Would later be rolled into the Helper rank when that came about. I got sent posters and goodies a couple times. Even got to meet some people through my connections. (Although admittedly I met more influential people at [as] at the ill fated Atlanta Supercon in 2008.) I ended up being this nebulous little background worker bee on the site for a number of years. When I was made helper I pretty much stopped doing anything. Weird ride.

He's on Xbox a lot still.

There was a burger king my dad and I used to go to in the 90s. Every time we went for breakfast, there was always something in the food. Hair, bugs, fingernails, even boogers. I never ate anything from there but my dumb fuck father insisted on coming back, time after time.

I find this happens to more so because I forget to eat what I bought and it becomes a sentient mold monster and then I have to get the beatin' stick, versus your dilemma.
