  11. Gotta say Bertie's parents suck. So obsessed with gaining power in order to move past the shame of their defeat they forgot about their own kid.
  12. Yeah, anyone wondering how come there's people who aren't exactly broken up about this guy's death, ought to just take a look at this... https://digg.com/data-viz/link/us-household-wealth-gap-1-percent-data-viz-graph-chart I mean it's not rocket science. Not saying it in any way makes it right, but it makes it understandable why a lot of people are lacking in sympathy for someone at the top end there.
  13. It's being referred to as Disease X for the moment. I found this other article's description of the situation interesting: "Into the unknown: Crack WHO team journeys deep into the Congo to identify mystery killer". Makes it sound a lot like that old Outbreak movie from the 90s. "There are no paved roads to Panzi, the small village of tin-roofed shacks surrounded by thick rainforest which is thought to be ground zero for the outbreak, and their progress will be slowed by heavy seasonal rains and the threat of attacks from local militia groups. Instead, they will have to travel along the rutted dirt tracks that wind south-east from the capital, Kinshasa, through the rough terrain of Kwango province, which takes its name from a river that has long been a target for illegal diamond mining." Can you just imagine the guts of the people that do this for a living.
  14. https://currently.att.yahoo.com/news/deploys-team-experts-congo-help-173153492.html Although much more needs to be learned, the outbreak is extremely concerning, said Lawrence Gostin, a longtime global health expert and faculty director of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University. "We don't want to press the panic button until we see what we're dealing with, but it's something the world has to pay close attention to because if it is a novel, highly transmissible influenza, it'll spread around the world extremely rapidly," he said. The cases are centered in the country’s southwestern province of Kwango, in the Panzi health zone. While the WHO said 30 people reportedly died from the disease, local authorities told Reuters 143 people succumbed to the illness, since late October. Symptoms of the disease so far include headaches, cough, fever, breathing difficulties and anemia, the WHO said. Reuters reported that it appears to most seriously affect women and children, particularly those over 15. Gostin said he is particularly concerned that the infections seem to be striking people in the prime of life, as opposed to the very young or very old, who are the more typical victims of flu. "It's mysterious, because this is just not an event that we see," he said. He's also concerned because the disease appears to be spreading rapidly from person-to-person. Other highly lethal influenza viruses, like bird flu, have not spread easily. "It makes it very worrying," he said. Plus, the Democratic Republic of Congo has a very weak health system and remains torn by civil war, with a population that doesn't trust mainstream medicine or western doctors, Gostin said. "Getting resources there to put out the flames is going to be very hard," he said. "It's a toxic brew." Oh boy. Where did I put that N95 again? Perfect time to putting vaccine skeptics in charge of the Department of Health and CDC.
  15. Apparently, the dude has a thing for alliteration. Seriously though, interesting to see the bullets were deliberately left behind at the scene and it wasn't a jam with the gun after all. Still seems kind of amateurish to leave evidence behind that could potentially have DNA or fingerprints that could help identify exactly who he is and serve as hard evidence against them if they're caught. They've released some photos anyway of the killer's full face now that they got off a video surveillance from somewhere apparently. Also, he apparently visited a Starbucks and bought some things that the police have recovered, so gotta think it's only a matter of time now before they figure out who it is and track him down. Edit: Hm, actually, I'm hearing now that the shell casings were placed on the ground and actually not the ones that were discharged from the gun. So I guess it did jam after all, and there's three live rounds in addition to the three casings with the words on them that were left behind at the scene then.
  16. Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. The reports are that the killer's gun jammed, and they had to clear it, leaving behind three bullets at the scene. Sounds kind of amateurish in some ways to me.
  17. Only thing I wonder about is why the guy didn't have a protective detail with him. Was he just overly complacent? His wife said he had received some threats, so definitely doesn't make any sense he would think he didn't need one. Was he too cheap to want to spend on one? Guy surely had enough money to afford it. Or did he just not have them with him at the time? As for motive: until they catch the killer, no way to really do anything more than just wildly speculate.
  18. Gladiator 2 8/10 Moana 2 9/10 Super sequels? Well, they're both killing it at the box office that's for sure. Probably helped that there was such a long time since their beloved originals for each of them. Made the anticipation to want to see these new movies that much greater for a lot of people I think. If the reason for taking their time was to make sure they got it right and put out sequels worthy of living up to the quality of the original films, I'd have to say they pretty well succeeded, for sure. They were both really good and deserving of the praise I'd say they're getting. Not quite as good as the originals I'd say still, but I mean that's a really high bar we're talking about in both cases, given Gladiator won best picture and Moana's my favorite Disney movie of all time.
  19. Well, when you make it clear your intent is to turn the FBI into the new Gestapo by announcing you're gonna put a tool like Kash Patel in charge of it, is it any surprise Biden would want to protect his own flesh and blood when he's got the power to do so. Trump's reaction to this btw to bring up the folks convicted for the insurrection, continuing to call them hostages.
  20. Key secured. Time to lay down the Law! Literally. He can finally lay the dude down and stop carrying him around. Finally.
  21. Not a lolicon. A siscon. Yes, that's so much better.
