They really killed it this week. Only letdown is no penguins, but I guess I've already seen enough penguin memes this week to last a lifetime.

Another thing is what proof is there that it's not just a hoax by the guy? Until someone actually dies, there's no way to know for sure, but considering he's believed by everyone to be a genius, guess it kind of figures everyone would be predisposed to believe he's serious.- 96 replies

lazarus LAZARUS EPISODE 1 DISCUSSION

Whether it's a virus or a drug, really feels farfetched one could ever be developed with such a long time delay before it becomes dangerous to people. Also, some people will take more hapna than others, so wouldn't increased useage result in some people getting sicker sooner? Really would have to be one hell of a genius to create something like that. Also, hard to believe anything that potentially lethal could get past FDA approval without being detected. Given it's the central premise the show is based upon though, guess don't have much of a choice but to just go with.- 96 replies

Painkiller? What about the Amish? Don't they not believe in taking any kind of modern medicine? Surely there'd be at least some people who didn't take the stuff.- 96 replies

https://www.smh.com.au/traveller/travel-news/an-australian-was-denied-us-entry-for-bizarre-reasons-he-s-not-alone-20250403-p5lov8.html "One Traveller reader has vowed never to return to the US after he was detained last month for eight hours at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport, while his laptop and smartphone were examined by US border guards. He was finally deported back to Australia. His “crime”? Taking a more circuitous route to the US to save on his airfare, though he stresses he was not accused of any actual “wrongdoing”. “I feel like returning to the US under the current administration would be the equivalent of going back for your hat after escaping a devastating house fire,” says the reader, an Australian citizen who asked not to be named. “I have no wish to be burnt again.” He arrived in the US following a 24-hour flight from Sydney to New York via Hong Kong, with Florida his planned final destination. From there he intended to board a cruise and says he is now $15,000 out of pocket due to the cruise line’s refusal to refund his fare. What the hell are we doing? Seriously, WHAT THE HELL are we doing?! We're turning away now even people just coming to vacay from Australia? How is this at all keeping America safe? Besides from foreign tourist money I mean. Are we just moving to straight xenophobia now? Just really hard to see the rationale behind this one.

Good for them that they gave this guy the boot. They still got real problems to grapple with looking forward though. I just watched a video a couple hours ago by funny coincidence saying how by 2060 their entire country is looking at a total collapse due to their birth rate being the lowest ever recorded in the history of the world currently. It seems like it's kind of past the point of no return, too, so even if they were to immediately enact some major societal changes somehow, they'd still have some serious, potentially existential, consequences to deal with in just a couple of generations time.

What Youtube video are you watching?

And I thought Japan had a big problem with its low birth rate, but their situation looks downright rosy compared to South Korea's. -
Inside Trump and RFK Jr.’s Health Agency ‘Bloodbath’ The layoffs included 1,200 positions at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and 3,500 at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Robert Califf, the former FDA commissioner under Obama and Biden, called it a “dark day for public health.” “The FDA as we’ve known it is finished, with most of the leaders with institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of product development and safety no longer employed,” wrote Califf in a LinkedIn post. “I believe that history will see this as a huge mistake.” Meanwhile, RFK is eviscerating the CDC, the NIH, the FDA... the WTF. I mean seriously, if the idea with this import tax hike they're putting on people is to drive companies to want to invest here, just ask yourself why would any of them want to do that in a country that's actively trying to make its people sicker and is opening itself up to being the likely epicenter of another pandemic. I admit maybe that's not front and foremost on a CEOs mind when trying to decide where to build a factory, but that and all the other chaos they're creating here can't be all that attractive to them. BTW, wonder what the republican reaction in congress is to all these people in HHS losing their jobs? https://people.com/senator-jim-banks-tells-hhs-employee-who-lost-job-you-probably-deserved-it-11707374

This just means they finally understand having him out in the front of the cameras day in, day out is getting to be really bad for them. He'll simply move back into the shadows some, but I fully expect he'll still be there with his money, pulling the strings for as long as this administration lasts.

It's a poor and middle class tax hike. I hate the word tariff. Just obfuscates what's really going on, which is simply put... class warfare. No matter what language is used though, when people see the rising prices and feel the pain economically, they're gonna know. And the idea that this is to bring manufacturing back... puhlease. That's just to give the media a chance to talk about this and analyze it as if there's some kind of actual strategy at play here, but doing them by country like this in a blanket fashion makes it pretty clear that this is just ultimately another con. It's no wonder they delayed this whole announcement till after the markets closed. Just look at where the dow futures are right no and it's like ruh roh! Dow futures tumble 1,000 points on fear Trump’s tariffs will spark trade war: Live updates

[insert title here] 2025-26 Election Cycle Thread

Crawford's spoke just now and mentioned Schimel called her and conceded, so don't think they'll be able to contest this one. It doesn't look like it's gonna be close enough for them to have any kind of case to challenge it legally. Don't think they have any more real cards to play then. Maybe if they still had a supermajority in the state legislature they could try something crazy, but they lost that in the last election. -
Me too. At first I suspected it might be a joke but only because I didn't remember him being on the show. I did a quick search and saw he actually was on it though, so I totally bought it after that.

Phony Stark goes down in flames. Looks like a total asskicking, too. Guess money can't buy everything. -
Wow, I must have stopped watching before he was on it, cuz I had no idea about that and would never have guessed that he ever was. But oh boy, this ought to be good. I can't wait to hear what he has to say.
-
Well, he proved me wrong. I honestly didn't think he was really going to be able to do it. Shows what little I know about the capability of the human bladder. Pretty sure mine would have given out long ago. Hope this is a sign of things to come and the dems step up their resistance before it gets to be too late.

And yet they had no problem springing the Tate brothers and bringing them over here. SMH Absolute BS anyway that they don't have the ability to get El Salvador to release these folks. If they got them to take them, they can obviously get them to release them. All the more reason these people need due process and sending anyone anywhere without it should be strictly prohibited, period.

Bird flu infections have been mounting in cats Noooooo! Stay away from the fur babies! Seriously though, reading about the cat in this article just killed me. “She was the happiest cat I’ve ever had,” he said. “You’d walk past her and she’d do a little back flip and get on her back so you could rub her belly. She did that in the hospital the last night… She just very lethargically flopped on her back so we could rub her belly.” Geez. That second photo takes me right back to when I had to take my baby to the hospital right before he ended up pasing away. Uhh! Anyway, bottom-line is be especially wary of feeding your pets any type of raw food or milk right now. Cats are especially vulnerable to this thing and it's proven extremely fatal for them.

He went all night? Seriously?! Without going all night, ironically, cuz I heard they don't allow bathroom breaks anymore, so props. Longest filibuster in history was just over 24 hours though, so he's still got a ways to go if he wants to top that. Thurmond who set the record was able to take a bathroom break though, so that's probably not possible to surpass without exhorting to extreme measures anymore.

DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Code Base in Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse This shit seriously frightens me. I thought a judge ruled they had to get the heck out of the SSA. Was the order limited somehow? Cuz otherwise, don't see how other than by defying the court's order they could do something this crazy risky. Unless these are just plans for what they want to do after they potentially win the legal battle over they're having access to it.

It shouldn't be, but as we've all seen the law is completely malleable these days.
