The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

Attack on Titan Season 3, then Made In Abysss in the fall -
There’s also a Funimation stream of it starting on May 8th. I don’t think that a home video release is a big deal, but a stream is. A lot of people seem to be excited to watch this show in English and if Toonami doesn’t start it first, most of the attention will be there. But then again, I don’t think it matters much from a ratings perspective, it’s just that it would be nice if Toonami could have a dub premiere so viewers have something brand new to watch

Others (Sam on Twitter and Sketch on Reddit) actually pointed it out and I didn’t see it at first because they aren’t in the playlist. I hope Toonami includes this kind of stuff in future contracts. It’s one thing if this was 2002 and they put the DVD out. At least there’s a purchase barrier there, but when you put stuff up for free on YouTube in this day and age, you really tempt people to watch ahead- as you are right now. Don’t see the benefit to Sunrise to do this since it’s free.

Just found out today that Sunrise has uploaded the rest of the IBO English dub to their “gundaminfo” YouTube channel as of the last week of March. So we’ve technically already lost a dub premiere unfortunately I wonder if it’s a miscalculation on their part. If IBO played without interruptions it would have ended on Toonami a few weeks ago. They may not have taken all that into account. This is something you think Toonami would’ve covered in their contract

Yeah he's like that because Sean Akins was the opposite. He'd give interviews and basically tell people "Yeah we're looking at this show, we really want to air that show,...."ect. Then FOX KIDS or someone would go and grab it before Toonami could. It's almost baffling to think he was that naive when you read it now. They lost out on so many shows that way. After that kind of stuff happened, i think the interviews were less frequent. Although, I don't see the harm in announcing something when it is secured. We usually don't find out before 2 weeks of its premiere. I think its because they want to announce the show and its date and timeslot all in one and that usually isn't finalized until that point.

Keep in mind too that it can regain that status once it gets to episode 13 depending on when set 2 comes out. We’re hoping to hear something this week. A lot of the actors and the director are promoting the upcoming stream but it’s possible that they would have no idea of a possible Toonami airing. That streaming day almost lines up perfectly

The set (episodes 1-12) comes out mid June- that’s been confirmed. The dub looks to be streaming episode 1 on May 8th on Funimation but I don’t see any further episodes listed. I certainly think the block should have at least 4 dub premieres in order to give viewers things they can’t watch dubbed elsewhere. I think that if they can’t get a show as a premiere that they should hold off a bit and run it later when people might be willing to revisit it. I think it’s counter productive to let’s say run episode 1 an ongoing simuldub while Funimation is actively promoting on Twitter that you can watch episodes 1-10 right now and 11 is coming next week, for example.

We are 3 weeks out at the moment and their typical announcement time is no later than 2 weeks out. I think especially now if the show has been secured, that it is time to start promoting it, at least make a Facebook post to let people know what it is at this point. I’ve never been a fan of waiting until the last 2 weeks to even tell people what’s coming. On air promotion is costly and that’s one thing, but I don’t see the strategy in hiding it until the end. I remember in the ASA days, we’d get announcements months ahead of time. It certainly would help people decide what to watch as it comes out, especially if it’s a simuldub. But we should hear in the next week unless they have more delay tactics (double Jojo or something like that)

I think that IBO, Unicorn, and IBO2 were probably all committed to at the same time as a package deal with Sunrise. Both Unicorn and IBO2 were announced as airing months ahead of time (well in the case of Unicorn about 6 weeks) so I think that's what happened. I believe in the past Sunrise has made these kind of deals that required UC stuff to air in order to get some AC shows. I do see the crew dealing directly with the Japanese side since Sunrise has no American counterpart and making a multi show deal. So I guess we'll have to see if that is going to continue for more shows. People were really requesting Gundam to come back and they delivered So if they are satisfied with the result they may bring on more or they may not. We'll see.I'm not so much on sold on the idea of bringing in Gundam Wing again just because I know its going to be more money spent where I think it can be better spent elsewhere. If they want to bring on a classic, why not something like Escaflowne or Tiger and Bunny or something that the block never got a chance to run in the past instead?
