The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
brianycpht replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Super tied with Family Guy in total viewers and beat it in both 18-49 and 18-34. It also was the #4 show on cable prime time! -
Actually, in the old days, we’d find out about new shows from Toonami MONTHS ahead of when they aired. Gundam Wing, Tenchi, Outlaw Star, Big O, ect were announced at least 3-4 months ahead of when they aired. That have them plenty of time to have weeks of promotion with character bios and a few different trailers! That was under Sean Akins, who also screwed many potential deals because he would say in interviews what they were looking at getting and then FOX KIDS or someone would snag it first. It seems Demarco operates the opposite way and likes to play things REALLY close to the best because of how much more vulnerable Toonami is to competition than before. But still, the last 3 years we got shows announced for October in the Summer. It must be that they don’t secure the rights to things until the last minute. I just don’t see the point in “secret schedules” for things like marathons and reruns unless those are also 11th your decisions

Still makes me wonder about the delay in telling us that by now. There’s no reason to be secretive about double Bebop! On Twitter Paul Pescrillo was speculating that they may have had some last minute thing set up for THIS Saturday the anniversary (a movie or something) which also accounts for the lack of Super topical. Obviously, that would push things back as well. I just don’t think it’s wise to do that and then do a stunt 2 weeks later. We’ll see, it’s just really weird we’ve gotten no word on ANYTHING past this Saturday!

Yeah I’d like to see this too. It would pretty much confirm it since only one network airs anime -

Unfortunately I can’t see them passing up the opportunity. Although, I’ve been of the mindset that they should just mess with the packaging instead of the shows so as not to get people angry like they did last year. -

That’s what they’re talking about. I think everyone had this expectation that it would line up with ReZero being announced. Since this isn’t sanctioned with Toonami, I don’t see them giving her permission to announce it or anything on the AMA, but who knows? -

That would be interesting. I just hope nobody bombards Sarah with questions about that because it’s not something she would even know anything about. Could still be an on air announcement. -

There must be something wrong with the intended replacement if they still haven’t said anything. If it’s somethings brand new they usually would want to start promoting by now. Couple of theories: 1. They could have still been trying to get Lupins replacement on the lineup and it’s being held up still. If that’s the case, we might be getting another rerun at 2:00 AM. They may still not know if its going to be able to happen but are still holding out hope. 2. They aren’t going to run this new show until after April Fools if whatever gag they do preempts the post midnight portion of the block. In that case, they may just air both parts of the Bebop finale on 3/24 and we get a whole new schedule on 4/7. I still think they should give us some idea about what’s going on though at this point. -

This is such a big deal and proves Toonami (or at least DBS) can survive in prime time (which I’m sure commands a higher advertising rate than late night ). Super has actually been #2 and at one point as well. AS as a whole is doing really well there too! Can something else survive there as well? We’ll see! -

Even more so for the 18-34 and the male categories. That’s how the advertisers know where they should spend their money. Plus with Toonami having the #4 show in prime time with 18-34, that has even more value for the block. If they expand even further into prime time, they have the potential to get even more ad dollars! -

I think those totals you have are from 2 weeks ago. Last week Kai did in the 900ks and Clover the 700ks -

Demarco actually name dropped them on Preflight when talking about it “From Funimation and Crunchyroll “ was how I believe he put it -

This could be a case where the people behind the show really want it on TV (like Clover) and they go to them with it. Maybe Clover was also a testing ground for more of a partnership with Crunchyroll -

Lining up pretty good timing wise for a possible announcement. That would be pretty cool -
Maybe they read this forum lol
-
They can’t for whatever reason. I think they got wise to the “better schedule site
-
I’m really hoping whatever the legal issues are, it’s really worth it to take this long. They strongly hinted that this show could also expand the block whenever it’s cleared up.
-
Figured as much. I’ve only been able to look at that on a desktop. We’ll probably get some kind of an announcement this week hopefully! Thanks!

I can’t see it where I am currently. Does it show any type of schedule replacement for Outlaw Star or is the schedule blank as per usual?

Can’t wait to see how Super stacked up against the rest of primetime Last week it got #2 18-34 in prime time against the rest of cable! -

That’s the main factor in how well the rest of the night does. It seems to be the thing most all over the place retention wise. You can sort of count on the rest of the shows retaining the way they do, but it all depends on how Super starts the night and how well Kai retains -
Because the new show wasn’t needed until the end of January, it’s certainly possible that it was paid for using the 2018 budget. Champloo was needed first thing in 2016 on the 2nd of January PLUS they needed a promo for it, so that was bought with the 2015 budget. But who knows how the accounting works over there. It’s probabky not anything like we think. Do they amortize the costs on a per episode basis or is it all expensed out at once? They picked up Black Clover at the end of the year so who knows how it all works!

I’m going with something new to Toonami at 2, but maybe an older catalog title from Funimation. Escaflowne would be interesting since Toonami wanted it back in the old days. Also, possibly the Lupin replacement show could come in at anytime as an expansion show at 11:00 PM, Pushing the DB hour back to the 10:00 hour.
