DeMarco deconfirms more shows, admits One Piece bombed.

With One Piece, I had a feeling it was cost vs benefit. That’s the one side of things we never see. -

This was a strange night for Kai, which doesn't usualy retain Super that well. Black Clover got a little lift as a result, every week its audience is growing. I think the block is on an upswing and the gains will gradually go deeper into the block as the weeks go on. The holidays may throw things off when we come back in January, but Super is getting alot of buzz because of a certain special guest star VA in the next episode. If Funimation and Toonami keep up the promotion, we could get more people than average tuning in for it on January 6th! I hope Super beat Family Guy again! The drop going into Jojo and beyond does make me wonder how HxH and Shipuden faired. I feel like Hunter in particular is being wasted at 1:00 and would work well following Black Clover. Poor Lupin, but he's almost finished his run and I'm glad he got another shot on TV! Who knows though, depending on what kind of deal they got with TMS/Discotek, it may have done what was expected of it! -

At least the earlier part of the block is affected by how well it starts. Higher Super means higher Kai means higher Black Clover. Black Clover isn't performing the way it is due to any active dislike for it I don't think. It's just limited depending on what Kai does. The rest of the block is on par with how it has been doing for months now. Super has a more concentrated audience in the beginning of the block now, but I don't think thats all of a sudden going to get those same people to stick with the block the rest of the night. As far as the low 18-34, it's possible that we are starting to see a demo shift, where some of the older fans of the original block are starting to age out of the demo or have things going on in their lives which is keeping them from viewing the block live. They aren't necessarily being replaced with new fans as they may not even have a connection to the block. Thats something AS will have to deal with and understand as time goes on and adjust their target demo. -

This makes me wonder if they are really going to pull something April Fools wise for Toonami? i thing the safe bet is to just mess with the packaging but leave the shows alone -

Well, we have to see how Family Guy at 10:00 performed to get a sense Super's performance. Imagine if it actually BEAT it? It also was the number 4 show on the list so thats something. If you you want to blame a show here, its Kai, which dropped a large amount of viewers. But I see some positives here: Black Clover and the rest retained pretty good! -
I’m guessing they would slide the DB hour to 10 and put FLCL at 11. It’s not quite mainstream enough to lead off the block I think. This still gives it a great time slot though. It’s an original, but probably won’t touch what Jack could. I suppose it all depends on how DBS does as an actual premiere at 10:30! We’ll see!

http://adultswim.x10.mx/ So it looks like this is what they are doing with the new Toonami start time 8- Cleveland Show 8:30- Family Guy 9:00 Rick and Morty 9:30 Rick and Morty 10:00 Family Guy 10:30 Dragonball Super (actual Toonami premiere) I guess this was a compromise for TOEI. This schedule should have some interesting results. Splitting Family Guy up like that is an strange move.

This is true. I believe I mentioned it before, but everytime Toonami's numbers have dipped is usually due to the lead in it has. 2015 started off the year with Boondocks and Black Dynamite leading into Titan reruns. This is what caused the block to be cut in half. Bringing in FOX comedies leading into Kai really gave the block high numbers, but it comes at a cost since they don't own the FOX shows and they are actually spending money to keep Toonami propped up. This year has seen a gradual decrease in total viewers, but they are spending far less money on Saturday night in order to get what Toonami is doing now. Combine that with the overall decline in cable and it's real easy to see why the numbers have been decreasing. There's a direct correlation between the adding/removal of FOX comedies in primetime to Toonami's numbers going up and down. At the beginning of the year we still had American Dad and Bobs Burgers on in primetime along with the 11:00 PM slot still going to comedy before Jack premiered. Now it's Super encore, the stealth premiere, and an hour of Rick. It's taking far less resources for Toonami to stand on it's own than before, so maybe AS is really happy with the results. Otherwise, I can't really see them expanding the block and keeping it at 11. They are usually very reactive to ratings and would've made an adjustment by now if it was a concern. -

One things to keep in mind is that this year could be considered more profitable due to the fact that they didn’t need to stack the Saturday lineup with FOX shows. The numbers are lower without a doubt but it’s a lot less expensive to air Rick and Morty than Dad, Bobs, etc.. Depending on whatever deal they have with Super, those encore airings may even be free/cheap to air. It’s very possible that this is considered a good result for not having to spend as much on Saturday. We’ve had largely the same lineup since July and I figured if something needed to change, it would’ve by now. -

That’s because as the night goes on, you are left with viewers that usually stick it out the whole night. -

You mean this one: https://www.ispot.tv/ad/AQlD/national-debt-relief-credit-card-debt That credit card debt is no joke! Last year they did it during the first hour of Children who Chase lost Voices which aired in the 3am (actually 2am hour). So it was the same as last year. -

Nothing for Bebop or Ghost yet. I did notice that was the “no real commercial” hour for DST. All the aired was quick infomercials for that special pillow, a contact lense company (they aired it twice in a row) and some Psa about getting the right contractor after Hurricane damage ! Pretty surreal -

Do you guys think it matters ratings wise if Toonami picks up something thats dub has already been streamed? I've always been of the mindset that Toonami should stick to things that they can actually premiere and if the dub gets streamed somewhere to just forget about that show and get something else. -

I'm hoping *something* emerges in the next year or two that can act as the next anchor of the block. Before DB, we had Bleach, and before that we had Inuyasha/FMA. If nothing new fits the bill, we probably will get Boruto at first replacing DBZKAI, then eventually moving up after Super ends. -
Apparently, there *is* a Thanksgiving marathon this year
brianycpht replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah there’s a new rule that says you can only talk about information on the official schedule. I think the mods got tired of a new “Hey there’s a new blank spot on the schedule” thread every few weeks. They especially don’t want us talking about anything in the “Better” unofficial schedule that’s linked here. -

Im actually surprised because I figure they’d want as much eyes in the finale of Countdown as possible considering it probably means changes to the block. Maybe last years results weren’t great. Glad there’s a place to discuss this. They banned talk of the backdoor schedule on Reddit . -
You’re D Aaron? Wow I’ve talked to you on Twitter before and here and not even realize it’s the same guy! Imagine that! Congratulations!

I’m hoping that those numbers are a reflection of the television universe because Toonami does get a bit of a rise because of it. It makes me a little more understanding as to why AS isn’t stressing about those numbers. Great week overall! I think the main issue with the block going foward will be securing programming for the block! -

Oh if you go tonight page 32, they have the estimate numbers by age. The rest of it is extra data for advertisers. Using these numbers yields slightly higher demo numbers. -

https://s1.q4cdn.com/199638165/files/doc_presentations/2017/02/total-audience-report-q4-2016.pdf Alchemist, I found this brochure from Nielsen which has the audience estimates as of the end of last year. You have to add some of the demos but it is the most current info I can find in doing 18-49 and 18-34 -

I think that will continue to become an issue. Eventually, people that have a connection to the original block will either age out of the demo or begin to get more responsibilities that preclude them from staying up all night on Saturday. After all, people with early schedules have a hard time breaking them for one night! If more of the regulars drop off without new blood coming in to replace them, that will complicate things somewhat. -

To be honest, I’m still putting most of the blame on prime time and how Super is set up. We never really got to see how a real Super premiere would do following Family Guy. The rest of the lineup drops somewhat normally based on past numbers (I’ve been calculating different ones and you’ll always drop a lot following DBZ, Kill la Kill would shed 300-400 k from Kai regularly) It’s just that Super should have taken things to another level and this stupid deal with TOEI and the weak prime time lineup is ruining where Toonami starts the night. We don’t have to have arguments about it. Everyone can have their take on the situation without it having to turn ugly, it’s not that big of a deal! ? -

These retention rates are terrible. I’m pretty sure the network can’t be too happy with this if it becomes a trend. I’m actually really curious what they’ll do. The Super deal continues to bite them in the ass. How did they manage to ditch it for that one week only to immediately have it return? I’m certain the budget is depleted for the rest of the year so there’s not much they can do with this lineup other than maybe move HxH and Shippuden up where Jojo and Gundam are, but I don’t know if that would yield better results. Either way, the network has to figure this out. 8:30 Super also has a huge advanrage because that’s what the DVRS record and there’s more time to watch it before the cut off time. The rest of the block doesn’t have that much time. The 11:00 Super won’t get much DVR views because you have to manually pick it (every week I have to cancel 8:30 and pick 11:00)
