The first episode was beaten to the punch by a fansub, and that never happens nowadays! Yet this might be a good thing, since I haven't been in the right headspace to watch the episode and then twiddle my fingers while I opt not to make the necessary ratings clips for it. BTW, as I mentioned in my edit in the ratings thread, I neglected to mention that I gave Bakuon!! the rarest of all PG-caliber ratings a long time ago. I may have had dealings here with some theme anime and old vhs anime from sci-fi channel in the 90s. I just finished uncle from another world, and it was good. The female anime characters were well illustrated, which is probably why they appeal to Proto-Otakus like me. my other interests are Cyberpunk2077, Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 and assorted movies like The Witcher series and Akira. I love characters suffering as much as the next guy, just don't bore me in the process. Made In Abyss is much more effective misery porn in comparison (which is funny to say because I wouldn't be surprised if there was some influence from N&T, H&T). Last Exile and Gankutsuou are next. Haven't seen either in over a decade through some really shitty Kissanime streams but I remember really digging the latter. With LE however, I recall being pissed off enough at the show squandering its potential to make a spite manga. Maybe I'll change my mind this time (maybe I won't). The PS1 cutscene stuck-at-SD Gonzo visuals, the music, the goddamn kid Anakin-level "yipeeeee"-ness ay fuck nah Last Exile is obsolete. My future work is not so much a spite manga anymore as it is a service: A replacement for dead untertainment. So being I dropped that LE rewatch after an episode, I moved on to Gonzo's succeeding work Gankutsuou and what a night & day difference in texture and mood. I had to stop after like 10 minutes unfortunately because pre-HD digital animation injures my cornea when trying to watch it on my OLED, but luckily I found a semi-upscale of the JP Blu-ray so that should help me out. Oh, and the bassist from THE STRANGLERS crooning over the opening? The post-punk masters responsible for "No More Heroes" and "Golden Brown"??! Fuck...
