Not gonna happen and you can guess why.

"Though it had nine Republican cosponsors, the cannabis banking bill lacked the kind of broader bipartisan support it needed to catch a ride on a government funding bill. It’s possible that it could have passed with a stand-alone vote, but Democrats had failed to schedule one."

A ha.

While Republicans clearly obstruct cannabis bills in larger numbers I’m sure Democrats didn’t do all they could to pass these bills either.  Marijuana legalization is so insanely popular yet politicians in the pockets of big pharma aren’t going to want it to happen. Politicians against any type of Criminal Justice reform certainly don’t want it either.

This is how it goes every time they try and pass some sort of legalization. They put in the bare minimum effort to make it look like they try, but they dont push it that hard because of all the money they get from Pharma. They make it look like they are trying, but its a pretty low level effort. They could probably get it done if they really tried, but they dont.

Ok yes MD is who she is, but it is true that Dems still can't get it together to decriminalize marijuana, even w the House & Senate.

Something Joe Biden could do entirely on his own, btw.

No real push at all for it.

I think it's simpler than that.  Politicians across the spectrum have other priorities and they're not motivated either to expend their political capital to get it passed or have no particular reason to budge on opposition.  The fact that we've gone as long as we have with state legalized pot with no real interference by the feds leads a lot of legislators to mistakenly think they can continue to punt the issue.

But there was already a bill written and supported by both parties, wasn’t like there was so much work left to do. Making dispensaries safer by allowing them to use the banking system instead of all cash is a win for everyone. It’s billions of more dollars banks get to play with. You’d think greedy stock holding politicians would be into that

You would think.  There's a whole lot to lose when the inevitable detente between the feds and the legalized states is broken.

it all starts to make sense now.  if we don’t jail people for nonviolent and stupid things how will our richest corporations survive? Everyone gets to shout “bUt mUh eCoNoMy!”

That is an excellent point:  framing it not as a feds versus states but as states versus states does change things considerably.

100% of military helmets, and I forgot what other military items  the article said, are made by federal inmates.  Where would the military get these items cheaply made if the country suddenly started releasing non violent criminals and didn’t jail drug offenders at all?

that probably keeps a few states inline with the feds wanting to keep it illegal. Fear of soldiers, that no one cares about once they’re damaged or done with service, not being able to get their protection would be something they’d amplify to maintain the status quo
