I enjoy reading, but usually not books.

I Google historical events every night on my phone while lying in bed trying to go to sleep.

Lately, I've been reading about the notable people buried in the cemeteries in Savannah.

Also, been reading about historical Victorian Era folks.

Victorian Era funerary practices. Post mortem photographs.

U.S. Presidents.

Far as books go, the last one I made it through was Bram Stoker's Dracula. I tried getting through The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne, but I just couldn't get into it.

I generally don't read books and I'm very selective when I do.  The only books I own is The Count of Monte Cristo, Animal Farm, 1984, Fire and Fury and Pride Prejudice and Zombies.  I've read the Catcher in the Rye but I don't own a copy of it....yet.I don't know why but I don't really have that ability to get lost in a book.

Maybe it's because I always have one foot in the real world.  It's probably also the reason it's hard for me to get super invested in movies.  I'm constantly trying to dissect the movie.  Trying to predict the plot/events, thinking about how effects were pulled off, noticing tropes, observing the camera work and dialog choices.  I consider few movies a work of art.  I believe the last one that really impressed me was Into the Spiderverse.  Great writing, pacing and cinematography.

What about nonfiction books if you like the real world? I read tons of fiction until I was 18 then my friend kerry got me into reading nonfiction books while on acid and mushroom trips. Then I kept reading them without tripping, and I ended up reading mostly nonfiction and biographies/memoirs for years and years w/only a few fictions here and there.

Spy by Norman Garbo - Finished 3 weeks ago. Great read, terrible fucking ending.

The Cay by Theodore Taylor - Finished in a single session. Short novel, but it was a very good, enjoyable read, even despite most of it being pretty racist. It made me hate the main character all throughout the book. Yes, I realize it was written and set in a different time, but holy shit.

The Hobbit - Finished like a week ago. Spectacular read with awesome pacing, was left yearning for more. No complaints here. *edit* I lied, one, kinda major complaint: I was more than disappointed at how Smaug was so easily defeated. I understand the moral, but dammit, it was a very interesting character that was easily dispatched. I wanted more interaction with the dragon, fleshing out how cunning and witty it was, but alas...

Dr. Death by Jonathan Kellerman - Currently reading, on hold. This one was hard for me to get into but it has grown on me. I look forward to finishing it someday.

Lord of the Rings - Currently reading. It's a great read so far, but I feel like The Hobbit had more flow. I never knew how much the books differ from the films and I would love to see a remake following closer to the books, even though it means longer runtimes. Still, I'm really enjoying this all-in-one, bible-esque edition.

Jack Reacher: The Enemy - Still reading, on hold. Holy shit, this book is brutal. It's great reading material, though. I've never had a book describe a scene that actually made me wince in pain and I love it.

I listen to this youtube channel when I sleep, essentially books on tape by horror authors.

Dude's voice knocks me TF out like nothing else.

While back as I was falling asleep dude read a story about a family on a road trip through the British countryside.

Well a massive storm sweeps in and they find a dude with a barn who lets them sleep in there for the night.

It's a massive storm, and there's flooding all over the place.

Rats from miles away run from the floods, also into the barn.

Rats knee deep.

Eats the family.

Even the baby.

Graphically.

I slept very well.

Fire and Fury is nonfiction.

Thank you.

Everybody go here if you wanna talk about your books

I love reading

but this is not about books. the whole point is that it's not about books even tho it says "book" a million times. This thread is about unscrupulous algorithmically generated search engine optimization

I knew something was off about this post. But I didn't want to say anything. It was very hard to read that, but I managed. I didn't do a very good job of comprehending it, which led me to just posting some shit I've read. I made it a book club thread. I'm sorry.

No I'm sure everyone skipped your post along with the OP and just thought it was about books.

Well....

I got nothing.

The great esoteric sponges got nothing? You're presented w/exactly why we're doomed and you got nothing? Machines write nonsense then people just see what they want to see. We gain nothing while all the clicks generate revenue which perpetuates the cycle
