The anime is just like the manga.  Like, 100% of the manga is interpreted in the anime.  This is good because the anime is only watchable via piracy now but the manga can be purchased.  I just finished the Perfect Collection today and it's as intense at the anime was.

Goddamn I need a drink now to settle myself.

When I have the money, I definitely want to buy the whole manga set.

Remember when this was airing on Syfy 10 years ago???

Oh man, that was great.  I had to use some janky, shady TV streaming program to even get the Sci Fi channel since campus cable didn't carry the channel.  I went out to Best Buy on release date to buy the first DVD box, and ended up burning my own DVD's to finish up the series when Viz stopped releasing it.

I remember on the old ASMB OA boards someone (Gina whatsit, IIRC) had this game they were doing where in the Monster on Ani-Monday discussion thread they would end their post with a number, and it was some kind of riddle that I don't think I ever found out the answer to.

This is probably the only example of an anime I've seen to have a full run on TV but an incomplete home video release here in the states. Hopefully Discotek or someone else eventually pulls through with a full re-release.

Yeah that was me.   I think it took about 14 episodes before anyone even noticed I was doing it, so that was fun.  You must've bailed on the thread, because I did finally reveal it once someone got close enough.  I got all kinds of flack from Ben for not parsing my criteria finely enough for him or whatever.  He was so bent about it, even though I think he was the one who figured it out!

It was the number of men who were left by their wife or girlfriend. :ghost:  I know I got up to at least 11, but the list I was making to keep track for myself only has 10 and some additional abandonments, so I guess I didn't update the last one(s), and I don't remember now who it was.  This is what I had (+episode #)

1) Tenma - 2
2) Mawler - 6
3) Eva's Gardener - 14
4) Lunge - 14
5) Rudy - 19
6) Braun - 27
7) Suk's father - 44
8) Grimmer - 49
9) Schuwald - 51
10) Martin

Schumann, Bonaparte, and Milch had some caveats, like Anna was never Bonaparte's gf before she ran away, and Milch was just abandoned, so I wasn't counting them, I don't think.

I was so furious and distraught when they axed the boards without any warning, because I wanted to archive some threads and that would've been one of them.  I did mange to save 3 absolutely irreplaceable ones, but since they kept telling us they were going to import them from the old host, I kept waiting since it's so labor intensive.  Wayback wizards might be able to find the SyFy thread, but I lack that magecraft.  They say once on the internet, always on the internet, but I haven't found that to be true for stuff I really want.  404 is the Number of the Beast.

I had a 10+ page argument with everyone in OA because I thought it was an unusual pick for a channel that typically didn't have shows firmly grounded in reality.

Which everyone decided meant I thought it needed to be scifi after I said the exact opposite 200 times.

Then it turned out, perhaps Monster... is actually scifi because Tenma does brain surgeries....

Not going to lie, coming out of an argument where the other side was saying that Monster fit the channel because shows didn't have to be scifi any more [ignoring that literally was never the point] but actually maybe it is scifi anyway since Tenma does medicine with me looking like the idiot would still be a little tilting if it weren't ages ago.

Spoiler

Yes, that's my only menory of Monster on SyFy.

Monster was the very first series that our group of AD misfits watched together as a discussion on AIM back in 2006, and we've kept things going ever since, so it holds a very special place in my heart.

Ahhhh, that's definitely something!  One of my life's unsolved mysteries...solved.  I think I did bail on the thread; I got behind on the show due to the streaming program going down and getting caught up in school or something.  I finished the show years later, possibly after the ASMB died its first death.
