they take days out of our PTO for holidays, which is the dumbest thing ever. this is an "optional" holiday. i could have taken it off but i wanted the PTO day back since I know i'm going to need it

i'm already starting to think about my next job. the people are nice but they recently published their percentages for raises on performance and it's pretty abysmal. apparently the 1% i got just for being alive isn't far off from someone who is there the whole year and does very well. that, plus worse benefits, plus the PTO policy makes the move a bad one. i know i HAD to leave the last place for my own sanity, but i think i should have kept looking

I mean I'm fairly happy with my job but I still think about leaving sometimes. I guess the only thing I'd change is the whole "you must meet minimum productivity even if you take vacation or have a sick day thing". Other than that it's alright I guess. I want to stay for awhile since they started matching more of our 401k but I have to stay for 5 years to be 100% vested. I doubt I'll stay here THAT long but every year is another 20% I'm vested

they ask that you are there for 3 years to be 100% vested. the match is like 3%, which is also much worse than i was getting. i'd stand to lose a lot of money if i left before 3 years but i think i'm going to lose more if i don't. that being said, the manager is one of the best i've ever had. the team is great and people seem that they genuinely want to be there.

there was an instance at my last company a few years ago where one of my coworker's brought his girlfriend who came to visit from one of the prestigious private colleges around the area. she sat down at our table during lunch and told us where she was visiting from and we all said almost at the same time "what the hell are you doing here?". implying that it was a big brain drain. everyone seemed miserable, at least everyone i knew.

But yeah, in the meantime, get rekt 💩😛😎

if we didn't have company holidays taken out of our PTO i would too. however my grandparents aren't doing well and i'm worried about them. i'm only planning on taking one PTO day this year because it was previously planned. i need that PTO time in case something happens and i need to go down to Florida. if nothing happens then i have 4 more PTO days, because i'm also working the other "optional" holiday to carry over into next year.

That's a pretty crummy PTO policy.

Hope your Grandparents get better soon

me too, but my sibling was telling me that my grandma was on oxygen now. i saw them a few months ago and i know i don't have a lot of time left. i wanted to see them again this year but i don't think i'm going to have the time to do it.

Did you get an influenza vaccination?😘

No because fuck. I will this year. I haven’t had the flu in almost 30 years but I’m not ducking around anymore.

The news said the current flu shot wasn't able to combat the new strain, so I guess everyone that didn't get a shot can feel vindicated.

I usually have to work, but the head attorney at the firm randomly emailed us all this morning that we're going to be closed. First time we've ever been closed for MLK Day
