Naraku4656
you want to know something funny? i got a letter from my old company's payroll department. i thought it was my w2 but apparently it was a paycheck for a "prize payout" for $0. there was a system they had for points or whatever that when a manager gave to an employee would trigger this, but would never actually show up on a paycheck as any sort of money being given to an employee. the "check" was dated for 12/24. that means that someone gave me points for something months after i left

Every time I use TurboTax it ends up costing me basically the same amount that my refund is but last year Credit Karma got me a better deal (I think I ended up owning a bit because I had a huge penalty from cashing out my pension at my old job but credit karma still gave me a better deal). Gyaos
I'm looking forward to it as well. Extra $$$. But being laid off and unemployed for roughly two months will likely mean I get less money this year.

Cause I wanted that money and didn't think about the consequences. Also kidney wasn't making nearly as much at his job as he is making now and my last couple paychecks had been a bit lighter since I had just had surgery and was on 60% disability pay at that point. I know people who at the very least, get back $200. A friend owed the state $50, but got back more than $1,000 last year when filing federal. Certainly there are those who DO pay back something. I'd say that such people are in the middle class, or whatever is left of it. Edited January 2, 2020 by Gyaos

Done properly, you should neither owe nor get money back from the Gov't. If you owe, you haven't had enough deducted from your paycheck to cover taxes and/or you haven't donated enough to charity and/or you haven't contributed enough to an IRA/401K. If you get a lot of money back, you're deducting too much in taxes. In other words, you've given the Fed. Gov't an interest free loan over the year.  1

QueenoftheDorks
It's always iffy on if I'll get anything decent back (I think last year I got like a hundred bucks or so) but I always try to knock them out early just so I don't have to worry about it. This is the first year i don't have to do a state return and I'm more excited than i should be. 😆
