this is different. i can't really explain how this is different but this was during an expectation setting meeting where they're looking for me to TEACH this thing. this wasn't explained during any meeting we've had.

no, it was assumed going into the job that i did know it because i do. but not even close to well enough to teach it

And you can't learn enough to teach it?  I mean, they didn't hire you to teach like the second day of work - it's impossible if you don't know anything about the people you're teaching.

these people have 25+ years of field experience but what they do is sort of different. i don't think my level of expertise is going to compare.

obviously by looks you can tell i don't. i've mentored people who have no experience but not people who are already senior/lead levels. i don't think i can tell these people anything they don't already know

Then obviously they don't want you to teach people something that would be gleaned through experience.  That leaves technical updates to the source material, something you should be able to easily learn.  Right?

This may or may not be a useful analogy, but being good at math got me into tutoring, and when I started I had lots of trouble explaining it and using a certain demeanor to do so. I can make people feel like I'm talking down to them cause I'm sarcastic. 

After a couple months questions people had became routine. In the beginning I flew through paper showing people how to do problems, and by the end I'd use maybe 2 sheets for 5 sessions.

Sure I like the adrenaline of a dinner rush at work, sustained busy-ness and weird shit going on to work through, but I can't imagine taking any of that shit home with me. It's like your brain is always at work!

Teaching is a beast, but it's a good start that you're second guessing yourself.  It's better to be in the state of realizing you don't know everything, because that will make you more effective at teaching what you do know, and as you learn things you'll be more eager to share and teach those things too.
