Does that stat include people who started vaping to replace the cigarettes they were ALREADY smoking? :|

I don't think I ever met someone who vaped and didn't smoke already

okay that makes more sense :D

It's kinda tricky, because one way marketers use to market to kids is to use older teens and young adults in their ads, because that's who kids want to copy. They use puppets in this ad and it is not clear (to me at least) if they are teenager puppets or young adult puppets. And the stat they throw out that I quoted in the thread title makes no mention of any demographic information whatsoever.

I don't think their advertising is very effective

I used to be VERY anti-smoking (I've since softened my stance since I started hanging around people who smoke. I'll still never smoke myself, though), but even at my most 'GODDAMNIT THERE'LL BE NO MORE SMOKING" point in my life, "truth" commercials just always pissed me off.

I don't know, maybe it's because we're adults. I'm sure most of their ads are targeted to kids, maybe kids respond to them better than adults do.

I saw that ad and was like "that's fucking stupid"  I'm a 3% nicotine now and the next step is zero....Aftet that it's just getting rid of the habit of sucking on shit in my mouth.....Which might lead to dicks...I dunno....Haven't quit vaping yet.

even when I was a kid the anti-smoking adds just pissed me off. they didn't make me not want to smoke. that's for sure

Oh when I was a kid I was right with the anti smoking ads. Especially the one with the old woman with the hole in her throat that had that scraggly voice. "I had my first cigarette when I was 13..." If there is only one reason why I have never smoked in my life, that ad is probably it.

The truth campaign is funded by the tobacco industry to advertise to children using reverse psychology.

Their campaign several years back where it was kids begging their parents to talk to them about why they shouldn't smoke directly influenced an increase in youth smoking.

That sounds more like an anti-weed campaign you're describing. In my lifetime parents have never had any trouble telling their kids why they shouldn't smoke cigarettes.

I don't know those truth campaigns rarely ever seem to be presented truthfully, the last one I saw was trying to make vaping sound 4x as dangerous.. I went back to cigarettes before they started so I havent looked into them really.

Yeah, I'm mentally screaming a lot of "citation needed!" for those ads.

The accompanying one with the "one juul pod contains as much nicotine" blah blah blah also bugs me. Like, ok? And you're just... trying to make a 1:1 comparison between pods and individual cigs? I'm no smoker or anything, but surely one vape pod is meant to replace more than a few cigs, right?
