I had a blast with that game back in the day. We have been playing the hell out of the Switch since Christmas. Got a lot of NES games on it. I am trying my best to get through Ghosts and Goblins, but so far, no such luck.

For me personally once I moved on to the Super Nintendo it became hard to go back to the NES. The SNES improved a lot of the issues I had with the NES so for me trying to play NES games feels like playing beta versions of SNES games.

I agree wholeheartedly with Metroid, I didn't like original Metroid at all while Super Metroid is an absolute masterpiece. But Zelda 1 is my all time favorite Zelda (and game in general, really), and I really love Zelda 2 as well. But for other pluses to the SNES, Mega Man X and X2 are better than any NES Mega Man games (as great as 2 and 3 were; never played X3), Final Fantasy II / IV and Final Fantasy III / VI are LIGHTYEARS beyond Final Fantasy I, and Super Mario World is better than any NES Mario game.
