Naraku4656 Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 i ate something today and i had no idea what it was. website said "oh it tastes exactly like meat" and it was on sale so i thought why not i'll give it a shot and make it this week for dinner. doesn't taste bad, but it doesn't "taste like meat" idk why they have to say it does. it tastes fine without having to say OMG THIS IS SO MUCH LIKE MEAT YOU'LL NEVER NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE
Tengu Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 So vegitarian bacon is a thing, and I have often wondered why would there be such a thing. I mean either they’ve been a lifelong vegitarian and never tasted bacon before or they’re trying to be all hardcore veggie but still miss the delicious taste of bacon. Either way it defeats the purpose of keeping a strictly vegitarian diet if you have to eat substitute meat once in a while.
Naraku4656 Posted October 21, 2018 Author Posted October 21, 2018 i had meat for breakfast and lunch but i was bored and figured i'd try a meat substitute for dinner, now i know why i never buy these things 1
stilgar Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 If I want to eat something that tastes like meat I'll eat meat. 2
Mini_ghost420 Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 vegitarian things don't taste like meat. they just don't that being said they're not bad in and of their own

Chapinator_X Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 The closest you’d get to a decent vegan substitute for meat would be a portobello mushroom. Made a chimichurri from a mushroom and it turned out great. Lentils can work for some ground meat recipes like for enchiladas. There was one time I made tempeh that was good with marinade I used for bulgogi. Otherwise, I’d only trust meat alternatives that I can make at home cause premade tastes like plastic. Or the real deal

André Toulon Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 I've tried many vegan meat alternatives and they are all pretty disappointing....If I ever decide to expel meat from my diet I will just eat vegetables that look like vegetables...I just enjoy it more that way. The vegan burger I had a few weeks ago tasted like boobsweat. 2

Is it somehow as bad as eating red meat for you? A friend of mine made vegitarian “cheese steak” sammiches with wheat gluten seitan and non-dairy cheddar cheese. Essentially NOT a cheese steak sammich as there was no actual steak or cheese in it. Why not call it a wheat gluten and non-dairy cheese sammich since this is what it’s actually made of, calling it a cheese steak is a straight up lie. 1
