So does the FLCL franchise have any other tricks up its sleeve aside from being really really weird? This isn't working for me.

female character who's arc is meant as an allegory for puberty having a sudden mood swing and not knowing why

Since Haruko has her original hair color and eye color back... what does it mean?  Is this before or after Progressive?  In that show she had orange hair after splitting with Jinyu.  Gets pink hair back after eating her, but gains red eyes.

It is unclear when these seasons are placed in time. All we konw is both take place after the original FLCL.

The room being destroyed is a bigger deal than the rocket being destroyed!

I think both of these series are meant to not be really easily placed within any sort of actual timeline

like they happened, but we have no way of knowing WHEN they happened or if they're really connected to the original FLCL at all

Good start.

Was a more fun ep in dub than I remember from the sub.

I followed more of it this time. Because I wasn't distracted reading on-screen subs.

As long as you're not from the Tenchi Galactic Police...

This guy knows Haruko too.

Dessert rocket backfired!

There's the real rockets!

Nice monologues.

They're obviously connected to the original.  I don't the impression each one is its own universe.  But yeah may be tough to place them.  Will depend on what drop of info we get.  Alternative had Amurao's son who was an adult by then, so tells us a good few decades passed since the original in that one.

Disagree. This was a pretty solid episode. Established characters well enough that you really feel their friendship. It felt pretty natural.

My only real complaint is not understanding why MM sent the robot. It wasn't even the usual Haruko trying to pull something through, it just kinda dropped in for no reason. I'll hold out hope that future episodes may come to explain, in some way, why that is.

When the titles were announced, I figured Progressive would be a sequel and Alternative would be an... alternate universe.

Progressive is most definitely a sequel given that a character is implied to be Amarao's son. I don't know enough about Alternative, yet, though. For all I know the middle-aged man is Ide.

Although, I haven't seen/read any interviews, so I don't know if there's official word on them or not.

Let’s be honest.

This isn’t very good.

I don't necessarily agree, although I will admit that the first episode didn't do much for me. I think the best parts were getting to hear Marieve Herington in a dub again, as well as a few of the trippy-like animation of a few moments. On the other hand, I was a little frazzled for all the Toonami shows I watched due due to not having ideal viewing conditions, but that's a meaningless story. :RoboBlush:
