Toonami Developing New Anime With 'Ghost in the Shell' Studio

Recommended Posts

Was it any surprise by now which studio Toonami would work with in creating a new anime?

For Pete's sake. Just say "Production IG" in your headline!

An original anime with no previously established franchise or fanbase is always a huge risk, and I look forward to see if it's worthy of the hype.

My point was that the last time Toonami tried this, at the arguable height of their influence on the anime industry and viewing public, it flopped harder than the Windows Phone.

This in turn is reactionary, and using an original IP, so I am skeptical.

I guess they decided to fight fire with fire.  With less of a budget and stricter programming standards.

Hey everyone!  Remember IGPX?

Just because IGPX wasn't a hit, it doesn't mean ALL Toonami's original programming won't be.

Well, Samurai Jack S5 was successful because so many people wanted it, and I expect the center to hold with the new FLCL seasons as well. When it comes to completely new productions, not all of them are going to be winners, but I hope Toonami's decreased reliance on ratings means that a show that would normally be an abject failure can still make money.

Toonami will ..... grant everything Mochi wants in a show.

I mean they still haven't gotten Sailor Moon and gay anime is already rare and only getting rarer so I'd say that's a distinct falsehood

Watch this be something like a Cowboy Bebop sequel.

More sequels no one asked for!

Although they said in the announcement it would be an original IP, presumably to go against the Netflix strategy of greenlighting every single manga that never got an adaptation (Watch as in the next year they announce 3x3 Eyes or some shit).

Okay let's all list what anime we wanna see Toonami make!

  1. Anything by Kunihiko Ikuhara (though he only writes lesbian stuff for some reason)
  2. a shimanami Tasogare anime
  3. A Go for it Nakamura! anime
  4. A sailor moon-esque magical girl series (since they won't/can't get Sailor Moon back)
  5. A giant robot anime that isn't a cess-pool of Homophobia (stares at Darling in the Frankxx)
  6. anything as long as it doesn't portray gay people the same way so many recent anime and manga do.....namely as freakish looking rapists

After the main character of the series (arguably) died? Touché.

Personally, I do think another Cowboy Bebop show could work, if it becomes more of an anthology series like with the FLCL sequels. They could never get away with a direct sequel, of course, but I'm sure any new series would have cameos from Jet, Faye, Edward, Ein, and all our favorites.

I wasn't expecting this so soon.

Though it's worth noting that Demarco said they are working on 2 anime series and an American show, but doesn't guarantee they will go anywhere.  I don't see where he actually states one of the series will be under Production I.G., unless I'm missing something.  He says they're taking trips to Japan and visiting all the studios.  In any case, nothing seems to be set in stone right now.

Stop guessing known properties, you guys, this is supposed to be something new (thank god.)

On that article it says they are streaming FLCL Progressive on their website in Japanese with English subtitles, as well.  Is that the only way to watch that version?  No Japanese TV airing?  This really is being made for the U.S.  It's a very unusual situation.

In don't know what most of that stuff is.

Why don't you just stop watching anime?

It being a new property is why I bought up IGPX.  Which when you think about it is a really American approach to anime.

”More of these things that are cool.”

”Have them actually kiss dammit!”

Shame the actual meat was so boring.

Plus they actually have less content restrictions now as we've seen with them now being able to air stuff more western-style anime like Black Lagoon and Hellsing. Not to say they'll do something like that but just as an example of the less restrictions compared to when they were developing IGPX I think.

What Ben, you don't want a Cowboy Bebop sequel?

And yeah, my comment from above was meant as more of a joke about how DeMarco loves Bebop and rerunning it.  Of course DeMarco would never actually try and make a sequel to Cowboy Bebop.

Until he does try to! *tinfoil hat equipped*

It's getting a THEATRICAL release in Japan. That's why they decided to delay our subtitled editions (with the exception of course of FLCL Alternative Episode 1, which already aired on Toonami). They believe reverse importation of a version with subtitles would harm the Japanese raw version movie screenings. That's why they limited our subbed editions until AFTER the movies have their theatrical run.

A joke for sure.  One I've made too.  But maybe we should stop tempting fate.

If Demarco does do that then that means the last bit of his sanity has slipped away, along with any confidence I had in him.

Ben can be lazy like that. Remember that time he refused to believe that KLK was getting a dub just because he didn't want to click the link up top and everyone shamed him for it?

I fuckin remember that .  Boy that was fun.

Why is it people always tell to cite sources when I make claims, but they don't have to?

And lest you forget, Owl says a lot of crazy stuff that you can't take seriously.

But, looks like it is true, this time.

Are you sure about that?  I think maybe I missed the link or it wasn't said in the actual post or something.

Each day this doesn't get adapted I lose faith in the Japanese animation industry.

I have a theory as to why they haven't made an anime of that

the scene where he fucks his girlfriend and is revealed to have  a 14 inch long black dick

and I don't mean he's black I mean they specify that the skin on his dick is so dark brown that it looks black

That's a shadow cast on his member through dim lighting, first off.

2nd, it's not like they can't pass over than scene or make it Blu-ray only.
