Since Turner no longer cares about ratings....

I was wondering, given that Turner no longer cares about ratings as much (probably because they don't get them anymore....), and instead are focusing on building fan groups, I would be curious to know if this little slice of internet could be considered by the execs as a fan grouping? Would it be possible, if the UEMB Toonami folder demonstrated high unique user traffic numbers (hahahahhaha yeah, but for the sake of discussion we'll go with it) would it be able to sway decisions. For example, would it be able to, with Toonami Faithful, make a pitch for a show which might otherwise not be considered if there was enough positive traffic around said show.  If ratings don't matter as much (flimsy premise but we'll be nice to Turner execs), could we see a Toonami that puts up serious cash for big name titles on a seasonal basis?

Curious as to what you all think.

Possibly. Though I honestly don't consider this the perfect fan group.

Well, in a way it is a perfect fan group.

Jman is the "gonna hate no matter what" segment, a vocal but largely ignored minority.

Owl is the opposite, shipping no matter how bad in support of the brand, which is a semi-sizable segment.

Most of the rest of us fall somewhere in the middle, depending on the show. In general we tend to like most of what is shown, and we chat about the episodes and whatever else tickles our fancy at the time. In that regard I would think this would be a decent, if small, representative sample to observe. Should DeMarco waste his time here, probably not, could he perhaps learn something of value, possibly, if he was incognito.

could every network just stop with these ratings? too many good shows died because of them and they are super inaccurate

because of them the best fox has to offer this fall is tim allen on the last man standing

Well, a lot of networks want to do away with Neilson in large part in order to have better control over ad rates and revenues.

The problem is that without ratings, there is no real way for companies to determine just how many potential buyers are seeing/hearing ads for their products. Streaming is easier, since that can be tracked more readily than a broadcast, but the fact remains that I, as a company, am not going to pay out top rate for a program that is not getting a sizeable share of the audience I am targetting.

You have to have something to replace it or advertisers are just buying time blindly. It's still the best measuring stick they have.

I wouldn't' trust this forum's opinions on what to put on a sandwich. Using us as any kind of serious feedback on programming would be suicidal.

I will say this; this forum does have a fairly broad representative sample to draw from. The fact that it reflects so poorly upon itself is perhaps an indictment of the fandom, rather than a unique condition to this particular forum. That being said, this forum in the Toonami folder is actually fairly good, if somewhat limited in numbers, when it comes to gauging general interest in Toonami and how well received the programming choices are.

generally speaking, i am interested in the idea of working with Toonami Faithful in some capacity. it was suggested a while ago when i started setting up UEMB social media accounts as an avenue to grow out the toonami side of things (which I think is the best avenue for realistic growth), but I don't really know TF that well (I am very out of touch with the block and fandom).

so if you or anyone has an idea or suggestion to facilitate something in this area, i am open ears.

when i started looking into them i saw they had an old school forum that, at first glance, seemed practically dead on their otherwise current, up-to-date website. seemed like they were more twitter/discord etc. now.

do you think there's an avenue for TF to use the site for anything, like while we promote their stuff or something? just spitballing here.

I was actually an active poster on the TF boards back in 2013-ish, when I first got into Toonami. It was fairly staid there, but fun. Ironically, I ended up abandoning it for a heap of shit in the shape of [adult swim]'s official boards. :$

I think there is a way forward with TF regarding a cross-promotional deal. As I understand it, this forum software does have some social media integration functions, so letting TF handle that aspect and reflecting it here, as well as the more traditional straight-forward news related content on their up-to-date site seems like a good initial proposal, with their site directing their forum traffic to UEMB. The biggest caveat to that is the need to clean up the general level of toxicity here. You simply can't have dipsticks like Zeni in FFA posting his usual creepy garbage, you can't have people trashing Packard et al.. Clean up the toxicity first, confine it to DF where it really belongs, and then you can probably approach the TF admins with some kind of deal.

Long term, if the more toxic elements are not removed, it will hinder the ability of any TF/UEMB to put together any kind of exclusive content with Toonami staff such as Discord chats, AMA etc..

Don't forget. DeMarco said on a Pre-Flight that he is aware that AS once had a forum and spoke of nothing but ridicule at it, saying he doesn't care if AS never has one anymore.  And because he is now the creative head of Adult Swim under Lazzo, a revived forum won't come when they're in charge.  I don't think he speaks too highly of the old members, and he has a really good memory.
