The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

So all non Dragonball stuff bombed...again.

Meanwhile Netflix has announced their plan for 30 new anime projects for 2018.

I can hear DeMarco throwing stuff at the wall.

Netflix's growth rose 64% in the past 12 months.

They announced they will release 30 new animes they produced, and 80 movies for 2018 every fuckin FOUR DAYS.

They will make a live-action Mob Psycho 100 show.

....

... anyone still wondering why cable ratings are failing, line up in a row.

So, basically the premiere of DBS is doing fine, just not for Toonami because [as] signed a foolish contract....

Jojo soils everything that follows, which is now pretty much an established fact.

IBO is not strong enough yet on its own to make up for the spill over from the soiling, which I sort of suspected might be the case.

that may change when everyone starts dying

Misaka is an asshat

Lupin III is okay where it is, but if it was a close out show in the rerun slot it might be a bit better, kind of a toss up there.

I think that just about covers everything.

When I saw that the thread went to a new page, I was hoping for the return of MC Bacon.  Glad to see I wasn't disappointed.

So what the hell happened to the 8:30 Super?  Was it really all from the lead in?  I doubt it.  There has to be more to it than that.  Personally, though, I'm going to consider it a fluke until further notice.

75 percent retention for Jojo and 85 percent retention for IBO.

The Jojo/ IBO power hour is wiping out 40 percent of Toonami's audience.

You mean "powerless" hour? Sad, but true.

Wow, I thought AOT S2 might have gotten a boost because this was the only shot DirecTV customers had to get it watchably in HD on DVR. I guess I thought wrong. Maybe they saw it on-demand and were so letdown by it they didn't care anymore? No, that really can't be the case, right? At any rate, it goes out with a whimper, a modest 0.15, rather than a bang.

1.3 mil for family guy? Way higher than normal.

A laughable 70 percent retention for Super. Wonder if it can break into the 60's?

So between Super, Jojo, and IBO Toonami loses 70 percent of it's viewers. Nice.

These retention rates are terrible. I’m pretty sure the network can’t be too happy with this if it becomes a trend. I’m actually really curious what they’ll do. The Super deal continues to bite them in the ass. How did they manage to ditch it for that one week only to immediately have it return?

I’m certain the budget is depleted for the rest of the year so there’s not much they can do with this lineup other than maybe move HxH and Shippuden up where Jojo and Gundam are, but I don’t know if that would yield better results. Either way, the network has to figure this out.

8:30 Super also has a huge advanrage because that’s what the DVRS record and there’s more time to watch it before the cut off time. The rest of the block doesn’t have that much time. The 11:00 Super won’t get much DVR views because you have to manually pick it (every week I have to cancel 8:30 and pick 11:00)

Well.... they could give HxH Gundam's spot. Continuing to lose an assload of viewers after losing 20- 25 percent from Jojo has gotta stop, and we know Gundam isn't going to stop this.

They should move Lupin to the back of the block, that show has been a ratings disaster. Naruto should probably take its spot.

Oh and cancel Super. Are we seriously going to do this with Super for 3 years?

I can’t imagine this continuing like this for much longer without some intervention. They have to stop the bleeding.

Yes, clearly we need to "stop the bleeding" of a lineup that expanded an entire hour with most of these shows and JoJo's is apparently doing okay. Do you all realize how stupid this sounds?

The numbers may not add up, but in the end, I'll gladly take the word of god if only because it means I won't participate in inglorious arguments.

That 8:30 PM Super is just KILLING it!! It did that well up against COLLEGE FOOTBALL!! The only way Adult Swim is messing with that is if they suddenly lose the 8 PM hour back to CN. Then I daresay Super premieres would continue at 9 PM.

I don't want Toonami to lose the 11 PM hour but premieres at 9 PM may be safer. Are JoJo and Gundam REALLY that much worse content-wise than Rick & Morty?

To be honest, I’m still putting most of the blame on prime time and how Super is set up. We never really got to see how a real Super premiere would do following Family Guy. The rest of the lineup drops somewhat normally based on past numbers (I’ve been calculating different ones and you’ll always drop a lot following DBZ, Kill la Kill would shed 300-400 k from Kai regularly)

It’s just that Super should have taken things to another level and this stupid deal with TOEI and the weak prime time lineup is ruining where Toonami starts the night.

We don’t have to have arguments about it. Everyone can have their take on the situation without it having to turn ugly, it’s not that big of a deal! ?

As much as I like JoJo's, it IS kinda embarrassing that so few people are watching it at MIDNIGHT, Toonami's classic home for the best episodes!

But by the same token, a Toonami block that begins at 11 PM is a dream come true, no matter what the ratings are.

That said, why can't the 8-10 time frame ALSO be considered "Toonami"? It might not make much sense during Football season, but outside of that, an 8-10 PM time frame that is called some form of "Toonami" would be interesting, you gotta admit!

And finally:

Yes, that's the first time a Gundam show has climbed over 600K and 400K 18-49 since Gundam Unicorn got relegated to 2 AM, and that's a new high for Lupin in 18-34 and 18-49!

Pretty much business as usual for DBZ KFC and JoJo: Stardust Crusaders although potentially over 450K IS pretty good for JoJo. Remember, Rome was not re-built in a day, and as long as there's no major shakeups for a while outside of marathon events, I expect Toonami's ratings to keep climbing slowly but steadily.

Meanwhile, prime time Dragon Ball Super plunged all the way from a 0.51 18-49 to a 0.29. Ouch! I guess that's what happens when [as] CN lead-in isn't as strong, as Lego Movie from 2014 was apparently much weaker than Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo! But it will be led-into by the 2015 Adventure Time movie this week, and that should provide a boost for the reruns.

We'll find out more about the last normal night in October later on today!

Walking dead as well

Walking Dead's special got beat by both DBZ Kai and JoJo in 18-49. That's not too shabby!

Even though those timeslots used to pull millions in overall viewers, and now they're 600-800K, as long as they keep doing well in 18-49, Toonami's not in any danger.

How the FUCK is Shippuden still popular?

The same reason TG is getting a third season. There's a staggering amount of people out there with really awful taste.

They weren't even sick of Naruto after 700 episodes so they had to make Boruto to keep them happy.

It doesn't help that they're continuing the story with Naruto's son in a new ongoing manga and anime, guaranteeing the preservation of medicrity.

The 18 year-olds in the demographic now barely remember (if at all) that shows were in 4:3 at one point.

I think that will continue to become an issue. Eventually, people that have a connection to the original block will either age out of the demo or begin to get more responsibilities that preclude them from staying up all night on Saturday. After all, people with early schedules have a hard time breaking them for one night! If more of the regulars drop off without new blood coming in to replace them, that will complicate things somewhat.

Toonami may be floundering but the anime industry is doin just fine

Yeah, Netflix keeps giving them dump trucks full of money.

Now tell them to hurry up and commission Cannon God Exaxxion already,  I need something to rub in the faces of Voltron fans.

Oh, ok. I see what you're saying. The numbers it gives for the adult demographics in thousands are:

A 18-24: 30,890

A 25-34: 42,570

A 35-49: 60,730

If you add those up, you get 134,190, which means that 134.19 million viewers would be a 100 in ratings points, and a 1.0 would be 1.3419 million. I had been using 1.282 million for my estimates, but that might be low-balling it.

Also, a trickle of new data: http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/saturday-final-nationals-yankees-astros-alcs-game-seven-sets-new-fs1-viewer-record/

It turns out that DBS didn't lose that badly from Family Guy after all!!

If that's right, then kudos to Toonami! But that seems to be high. If you take the viewer numbers from October 14th and average them, you get 336,300. Then divide that number by the average of the decimals from October 14th (0.262) and you get 1,283,588. Doing the same with October 7th, you get 390,900/0.302 = 1,294,371. So, the actual number might be higher than 1282K, but not quite that high. This, assuming 1.00 = 1,290,000 viewers, is probably closer to the actual list:
