Instead of ignoring the topic all together, what if the government was given more funding on the different types of mental illness, and see what experiences, and states people are in to purchase a gun, maybe have a psychiatrist letter before purchasing large amounts of ammo? There is different ways it can break down, but cynicism in doing nothing is going to help anyone. Also I'd say if someone has enough ball to slide a razor down their wrist their mental issues are very much real, but I guess it's easier to try to invalidate others so our own messages feel more heard.
