Survivor

Spoiler

AAAAAAAAGHHH! Yeah, that pretty much sums up my feelings about it. Bunch of freakin' idiots. I'm not sure exactly what happened honestly, but I think Steven was able to play his advantage at any time by just declaring he was playing it for someone and that it didn't have to be at tribal council. I didn't realize that though so when Sophi announced she was gonna go after his advantage my heart sank, but then it started to float back up again when he told her he didn't have any. I thought Rizo would play his idol for her then, but when he didn't I was sure at that point that Sophi was gone, but then just before Jeff finished reading the deciding vote I thought, "Oh no, don't tell me Sage..." Bringing us once again to AAAAAAAAAGHHHH!!

Oh man, I really hope Savannah doesn't win the next immunity and Sophi changes her mind and takes her out, cuz if it ends up being just her Rizo and Savannah for final three I'm gonna tune out then and just tune back in to see the season 50 preview.

Watched Survivor tonight.

Spoiler

Well you have more hope for the game than I do @Dark_Cloud_Overhead

I decided to rage quit after Steven was voted out this episode.  I'm very mad right now.

Sage is dead to me, Kristina has no chance of winning, and Steven is out.  I would be on

Soph's side if she decided to go against Savannah, but she didn't.  Once I have no one left to cheer for,

I stop watching and I have no one left to cheer for that I think has a chance to win.  I'll be back next season.

Dark_Cloud just let me know if Kristina is voted out next episode.  She's the only one I care about but not enough to watch.

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld 1

Spoiler

I'm back to writing Kinky Kunoichi again, after over a year on hiatus, and I'm starting with an episode whose hypothetical production duties are being handled in-house at Titmouse. (Semi-Bullhorn.) Issue was, I was at a loss who to select as the episode directors, since seasonal director Juno Lee hasn't done anything hands-on since the Venture Bros. movie and my original pick, animator Young Ki Yoon, had abandoned Titmouse a decade ago and has instead been putting his effort into storyboarding CG theatrical films. [shudders]

So I decided to take a look in Titmouse's recent catalog to see if there was anything I could use for analysis, and after learning that their involvement in Invincible Fight Girl (a Cartoon Network Studios production) went only as far as animation subcontraction by way of their Vancouver outpost, clicking here and there on various IMDb links soon led me to this Netflix original from last year, which based on the first half of the promotional trailer - sound off, of course - had the visual style I wanted conveyed in jam #19. I have two unit directors in mind for the episode from among Jentry's staff - Alexandria Kwan and Mari Yang, the former of which was one of three directors for this debut outing - and in order to get the right vibe from the both of them, I've decided to watch Jentry Chau from start to finish, in this lull between by out-of-seasonal watches of Precure and Max Heart.

As for my thoughts on the first episode? In terms of presentation and visual direction, it's awesome, 10/10, Titmouse kills it yet again. The actual content of the show, on the other hand... it ain't bad by any stretch, but it does feel a little on the "Gen Z" side of character dialogue and especially the comic relief for a late-stage Millennial like myself; so it's balanced, really. All in all, I can totally see my younger self watching this were it a Cartoon Network original in the late '00s, for the obvious reasons.

Speaking of, I give "Worst Birthday Ever" a TV-PGV rating. Gotta hand it to Gugu, at least she only got to get Haji'd once. And she gets to stick around as a ghost, too. Bonus!

Spoiler

Finally got to see the episode I didn't even care that much to watch, but the stupid surprise presidential address caused the TV schedule to be changed and screwed up the DVR recording I set for it, so was waiting to see if they'd put it up On Demand -- which they haven't yet -- so just finally decided to watch it on the CBS website.

Anyway... sigh. Savannah won immunity, and they all voted out Kristina because she knew how to make fire and they were scared of facing off against her in that. Of course. Buck buck bugawk! Season of chickens remember. Sophie won the final immunity and set Savannah and Rizo against each other in fire. Savannah won it and then... won the show. *shock* *gasp*

Yeah, only surprise was she lost a couple votes when she choked a bit when Kristina asked her to name a single family member of each of the jury members. She wasn't gonna even try, but Kristina insisted she do so and she managed to name a few then or at least say how many kids some of them had. Pretty clear that's what lost her Kristina's vote though still and probably the one other one that went to Sophi. Jawan voted for Sage of course, but Savannah got the rest.

I kind of skipped through a lot of the after party talk, but the one bright moment I caught was Jeff saying Jake the Snake bite man made a full recovery and got home just in time to witness the birth of his son. That was a nice feel good moment. Finally... the season 50 promo looked great. Mr. Beast is actually making an appearance at some point. Looking forward to seeing what that's all about. "In the hands of the fans" is the season title, so probably a lot of surprises in store I'm sure. Also, the two weeks leading up to the premiere they're gonna be airing episodes from past seasons featuring some players who are gonna be on it as kind a way to remind people of who they are.

Kyle and Kamilla jump out at me as a couple to watch. Love seeing that Joe is gonna be back. Q too. Don't like at all that Savannah and Rizo are getting to play again right away though. Rizo I kind of get, but Savannah just won, geez! Other than seeing the two of them again, will definitely be looking forward to it.

Viking Bikers from Hell episode of Miami Vice.

They treated the bikers more like 'this week’s quirky hitmen/mercenaries' than a real biker gang. The big antagonist even lamely says “where’s my scooter” at the beginning of the episode.

For a biker episode of the series they also didn’t even try to throw in some metal or rock for the OST.

The shootout with the clubhouse at the end was still awesome.

Finally about to start Stranger Things season 5 (on Netflix, obviously).

I don't know if you watched it yet but I found it to be a huge mess. They never killed off a character in the core cast and just kept adding on and on, so you have a lot of "why are they still here?" vibe going. You also got parts that are supposed to be happening at life or death moments where the characters stop for LONG monologues in which you'll find yourself yelling at the TV "Shut the fuck up and get on with it!" Aside from the parts where Vecna is actually present and the last five minutes, season 5 is an all-around DUD.

WIthout dropping any spoilers. I'm about 4 episodes into the final season of Stranger Things, it's kind of a snooze fest. It just kind of seems like every dialogue so far this season has been an incredibly long, overly detailed monologue.

Spoiler

I feel like the directors were like "we gotta a lot of shit to bring back and little time to do it." when they had the entire last season that was rather slow moving.

Survivor 50 premiere

Spoiler

Three hours. Whoo. Been looking forward to this for a long, long time though, so didn't really mind at all. Anyway, off to a pretty good start I'd say, though it was marred somewhat by Kyle getting injured and having to leave the game at the end. He's one of the smartest players to ever play the game I think, so it's a real shame he didn't get a chance to go further. Would have liked to have seen how he Kamilla and Joe would have gotten along were he to have been reunited with them.

Pretty weird actually almost none of the people who played with each other in previous seasons wound up starting on the same tribe with one another. Gotta expect that's gonna make it very easy for loyalties to shift later on once some of them get back together, and that original tribes affiliations are gonna mean pretty much squat likely come merge time.

Anyway, if there's one moment that kind of stood out to me so far it was actually before the game really started, when Jeff was telling them all about how the fans voted on whether they'd be starting the game with rice or not, and he just completely bamboozled them all into thinking they were before exquisitely pulling the rug out from under them. I just knew somehow he was going to do that, and it totally cracked me up when he did. I laughed so hard at that, it just made my week. That was great. Can't wait to see what other surprises they've got in store. Already got a celebrity named boomerang idol. I'm just hoping, whatever happens, it will be one heck of a roller coaster ride.

Spoiler

Finally got to see Savannah voted out. One of the few times going into tribal that my head was kind of spinning trying to figure out who I thought it was gonna be. They kind of made it seem like it could be Ozzy or Joe, but neither of them are really seen as serious strategic threats at all, so like so many times last season I ended up thinking the smartest move would be for them to vote her out. Never happened before, but with so many smart intuitive players in the game this time, kind of figured it could be a different story. And lo and behold.

Thought it was pretty funny too that Genevieve got everyone to rummage through Aubry's bag looking for a boomerang idol in vain, only for her to receive one right after they did that. LOL

Watched Survivor last week and this week.

Spoiler

Too bad about Kyle the first week.  I don't remember anyone getting medivacced before during the first  or second episode

of Survivor before so that was shocking to me.  He's not one of my favorites but it's too bad he was taken out that way.

Three hours was a lot.

I'm so glad Savannah was voted out.  I've wanted her out since last week.  I think I can enjoy Survivor

more now with her gone.  Once Rizzo is voted out I know I'll be a lot happier as well.  I know he said he's trying to

be low key, but he's still too cocky to me and seems kind of lazy as well.  I'm hoping Aubry and Cirie make it to

the end or at least make jury.  I'm cheering for both of them.  I like Christian a lot too.  I wanted to like Rick Devens

again but he's annoying me in those confessionals of his.  Just can't root for him like the first time I did for him.

Watched Survivor 50.

Spoiler

That was an excellent episode.  Since Savannah was voted out next on my list of Survivors I wanted

gone were Rizzo and Q so I'm very happy that Q was voted out.  He was too chaotic the first time around

and same for this time.  Now if next week Rizzo is voted out,  my take out list for now will be complete.

There's others I want out but those are my main three I wanted out and only one is left.

Emily might be on my list of Survivors I want out.  It doesn't seem like she knows what she's doing.

Still rooting for Cirie, Christian, and Aubry the most.  I was worried about Christian this episode based on what

Emily said but I was worried for nothing.  Also I doubt this will be the last tribe swap.  My gut says there will

be another down the line.  I was hoping that Aubry would be on a tribe with Christian or Rick but maybe next

tribe swap if there is one.

Spoiler

Q who? Heh, second time Q has asked to have his name written down, only this time he got his wish. Granted it was only Mike he asked to do it this time, but yep. I was actually a little surprised that he didn't seem quite as erratic as I remembered him being. Pretty sure that wouldn't have lasted much longer though, so probably really good move to get rid of him now before he had a chance to go the full Q.

Emily just can't keep her mouth shut though. Glad she kind of realized the mistake she was making and went back to Christian and told him what she had done. I think he's definitely my favorite player right now. Just hard not to root for him. Cirie too, though I'd also like to see a more old school player like Colby or Joe win and show it's still possible to win by playing an honest game. Of course, there's still no one I'm rooting for more to survive than the chickens. Got a bad feeling that's not likely to happen this time though.

Survivor

Spoiler

If there's a lesson to take from this episode, I think it was that bringing up someone's past trauma or failures in order to try to persuade them to do what you want is a very dangerous thing to do. It may work with some people, but in the case of a very sensitive, smart and aware player like Christian who's gonna know what you're trying to do, it will very likely backfire.

Nobody likes it when they realize someone is trying manipulate them, and even though I don't think Christian really voted Mike out based on feelings so much as deciding it was the best strategic move for him to make, seems pretty clear it played a part in triggering him at least to realize that Mike was indeed a very dangerous player.

BTW what happened to the chickens? I don't know, maybe I missed something, but I don't remember them showing anything about them since they gave them to the tribes in last episode's reward challenge. I guess no news is good news and they're still clucking then hopefully. Without rice, I'm fearful that's not gonna last too much longer though.

Watched Survivor last night.

Spoiler

I really felt bad for Christian this episode.  I didn't realize the poor guy was that traumatized.

I really wanted to hug him after that part in the episode.  Emily is interesting but since she's so chaotic

and hasn't listened to Christian, I think it would be a good idea for him to cut her from the alliance once they have

more people in it.  She's proven that she can't be trusted.  Still hoping that Rizo's team will lose immunity so Charlie

and others can vote him out.  The way the same team keeps losing I think it's just a matter of time before they're reshuffled

into either two teams or new teams of three.

Saw season 3 of Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Another solid season. Not as good as season 2, but not sure it's even possible to top that in my mind. The Four-and-a-Half Vulcans episode was without a doubt my favorite this season. I pretty much always love the funny ones the most I guess.

Survivor

Spoiler

It was starting to look like Christian might of just stepped right into Mike's shoes and could wind up getting voted out for inadvertently touching upon some of Ozzy's past trauma. Voting Angelina out made a lot more sense to me though because she didn't really have any strong allies left and taking her out could be done while making minimal waves, so as I thought Christian wound up being okay.

On the other hand, I really thought Rizo was done and am surprised Kamilla chose to save him over Charlie. That's a decision I think she may end up ultimately regretting. Could be she just didn't want to go against Dee and Cirie, and her decision might have been more about that than whether she trusted Rizo or Charlie more. Cuz it doesn't look like she really trusts Rizo all that much.

Watched Survivor Wednesday night.

Spoiler

I was so scared for Christian and Charlie.

Charlie is a hero in my book. One of the few with enough sense to try to vote out Rizo.

Except for the ones who voted for Rizo, that tribe is dead to me.  I hope they keep losing instead of Vatu.

I hope Vato wins the next few weeks until the tribes are hopefully reshuffled.  I don't want Christian to be in trouble again.

It's bad enough that Charlie (my third favorite after Christian and Aubry) is gone already.  The sooner Rizo is voted out the better.

Forgot to say I watched Survivor this week.

Spoiler

The "merge" (which I wouldn't call it since the three voted out didn't make the jury and they were just

formed into three different groups) was interesting.  They should have just called it a tribe shuffle.  I was stoked

to see Christian, Rick Devins, and Aubry in a group together.  I'm so glad that Genevieve was voted out.

She was definitely one of my targets along with Rizo, Dee, and Kamila.  So I'm happy that Kamila was voted

out as well.  It's too bad about Colby.  He was my mom's favorite.

Almost forgot last week's Survivor too.

Spoiler

Gotta say, I'm not the biggest fan of these random one-time groups for voting people out. Don't get me wrong, I dig chaos, but it just leaves people hung out to dry sometimes sheerly based on luck of the draw, which I really don't like seeing happen. At least one of the folks that got that short end of the stick this time was someone I didn't mind seeing going much at all with Genevieve. Getting rid of Kamilla was a wise move too I think.

Colby was a favorite of mine though, too. :LithiumSmileySad: I was really hoping they would go with Coach instead. I mean I get it though. Coach gets on people's nerves and his whole noble warrior shtick I'm just so tired of, that it's easy to see why he wouldn't be seen as a serious threat to win. Colby just seems way more genuine and someone a lot of people would vote for should he have made it to the end, so... I get it, but I still hate seeing him go.

Watched yesterday's Survivor.

Spoiler

Great episode.  It really fooled me at the end.  I wanted Dee to go but I thought it would be Coach the way the others were talking about him.

I'm so glad that Dee was voted out.  Now I only have one target left Rizo.  I'l think he'll be around for a long time though since he's working

with Cirie.  I'm glad Dee learned the hard way that Emily can't keep secrets.  Next episode should be interesting based on the preview.

Not too much to say bout this one. Just I think Dee was the smart choice. As annoying as Coach is, if there's anyone in the game right now I think has like zero chance of getting enough votes at the end to win, it's him. If he did somehow manage to win, I can only imagine his ego would be just insufferable, and I don't think anyone wants to see that. LOL

Watched tonight's Survivor and I think I forgot to say I watched last week's.

Spoiler

I was okay with Coach going but I felt bad for Chrissy.  She wanted Rizo gone just like I do.

I'm disappointed that Christian was voted out but he blew up his game.  Trying to get rid of Ozzy

was dumb.  Wish he had gone after Tiff instead.

Too bad he didn't win the stupid Jimmy Fallon challenge.  The only part of the Jimmy Fallon twist I liked was

Jeff Probst taking part in the challenge.  That was cool.  I already didn't like Jimmy Fallon and Christian having

to vote for himself is another reason for me to not like Jimmy.   I still hope Christian is a guest on his show now after what happened.

It would be funny with the glares that Christian was giving Jimmy.  Looks like Deven's and Emily's game are blown up too but at least

Cirie has been getting a good edit and so was Aubry's tonight.  So I still have Devins, Aubry, Cirie, maybe Emily, and Ozzy left to cheer for.

Spoiler

Last week totally slipped my mind. I finally got my wish and Coach got taken out. I'll kind of miss laughing at his haikus I admit, but that's about it. Really liked the twist of having to vote for a pair. Chrissy wound up being collateral damage though unfortunately as a result.

Loved seeing Jeff get a taste of his own medicine tonight along with a nice big ol' slice of humble pie. LOL I think the one in the urn advantage would of been pretty good, but sadly Christian failed to do the puzzle. I feel bad for him, but Emily was right I think. Volunteering to go on a journey at this point...

Unless you feel like your goose is cooked and you really need something to pull your ass out of the fire, it's just a bad idea to volunteer to go on a journey at this point in the game. It paints a target on your back no matter what happens or how you try to spin it, cuz no ones gonna believe you if you say you got nothing, even if you really did. And then there's worst case scenario of losing your vote, or worse than worst case scenario of having something like what happened to Christian tonight happen to you.

Twins Peaks is a show I've heard people mention quite a bit, but I never really thought much about watching it before cuz I wasn't really sure what it was about. Also, I thought it was set in Minnesota, but I guess I got it confused with Fargo. Anyway decided to give it a try and watched season 1. Didn't realize it's like from the 90's -- at least the first two seasons. Apparently the sort of third one was made a couple of decades later. Not quite what I was expecting, but definitely got at least some weirdness to it.

Survivor

Spoiler

Don't think I've ever seen so much drama over a coin flip before. Of course Devens was the only one with enough guts, or perhaps insanity, to step up and do it. Glad he got it right and added an extra mil to the winner's prize anyway. As for Steph going home... just goes to show you don't wanna cross mama Cirie. It really looks like she and her alliance are -- I don't want to say dictating, cuz that's just not her style, but --- able to direct the vote to go in whatever direction they want it to.

She's just so well-liked and well-connected, I really think it's gonna be hard for anybody to successfully come after her too, unless it's from within her alliance maybe. With the end game approaching though, probably just a matter of time before somebody tries to make a move against her (Rizo I'd be willing to bet) simply because no one's I think as big of a threat to win the game as her at this point because of how great her strategic and social gameplay are.

Watched Survivor on Wednesday but I just didn't get around to talking about it until today.

Spoiler

For once, I really loved a new twist this season.  That was a fun tribal council.  Great coin flip.

Rick was awesome this episode calling out people at tribal council.  He and Aubry are my faves now along with Christian as a juror.

I'm glad Steph went home instead of Aubry.  I'm surprised she got as many votes as she did.

She had been getting a good edit lately and the way she went beast mode eating those grubs was cool.

I think if anyone is going to challenge Cirie, it's going to be her.

Survivor

Spoiler

Another random draw of one time voting groups. Still not a fan of that, but at least they added an interesting twist this time by having the person with immunity able to go between and vote at each tribal.

Great move by Cirie playing the extra vote to ensure her survival. Figured she would use it cuz she's as smart and intuitive as they come. Also glad Emily went instead of Rick, but she had the right idea about going after Cirie. She is almost a lock to win in my eyes if she can make it to the end.

Ohhh, but poor Ozzy. Not at all surprised Rizo hung him out to dry. Cirie's not gonna be happy with him I hope. That and him having the only remaining idol is gonna make him a prime target now though I think thankfully. If they don't put votes on him to at least force him to play it next time, I'll be really disappointed. If he gets away with never ever having to play that thing like he did the last season I'll be sick.

Sadly it was Rick next after all. Wish Cirie had not protected Rizo and let Tiff blindside him, cuz now hurk! Hurrk! :SScuse me. That was just my supper trying to come back up on me there for a second. Sigh. Cuz once again he got away without even having to play the idol, and just aaaaagh!

Anyway. No surprise at all that he had no qualms whatsoever in helping push for her to be voted out when the chance arose. I hate saying this, but I think he has a real serious chance to win now. Aubry needs to probably win immunity. It's her or Tiff almost for certain next time. Don't think anyone would be all that uncomfortable sitting next to Joe or Jonathan, so doubt anyone will try and go after them.

Seeing Cirie go made me almost vote for her for the Sia prize, but I ended up sticking with my original thought of voting for Christian. I mean, they made him vote himself out, so kind of felt like he really deserves to be compensated for that.

That was painful to watch.  It was so obvious the Rick was going to get voted out.

I wish Tiff's plan had been carried out.  Seeing them vote for Rizo and getting him out would have been sweet.

Started cheering for Tiff starting with this episode.  Too bad she's likely to get voted out next.  I'm not sure what to think

about Aubry.  She was originally one of my favorites after Christian.  But she's okay with Rizo having his idol which is a HUGE NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from me.  Personally I don't understand why most of them are okay with Rizo having a idol so close to the end when it was so bad to them that

Ozzy had one (hypocrites).  I think they're being stupid about that.

Also since Rizo voted for both his allies Ozzy and Cirie to go if Rizo (Mr. Cocky and Annoying)

makes it to the final three, I don't understand why anyone would vote for him to win.  If Joe makes it, I don't see him getting any votes either except

maybe one from Coach.  He definitely wouldn't get a vote from Rick.  Thanks for voting for Christian to win the Sia prize

Survivor finale

Spoiler

First of all, Jeff messing up and revealing the outcome of the fire making challenge before they aired it... just hysterical. I was like -- did he just do what I think he did? :LithiumSmileyLMAO: Credit to them for owning the mistake anyway and just having fun with it afterwards.

Kudos to Aubry for her victory. Looks like whatever she paid for that simmotion thing to practice on paid off. What I want to know is, who the heck thought of making some of those things to sell online and how the heck did they ship something like that? Guess is must of been in pieces and had some assembly required.

Gotta be honest now, I actually felt a bit sad for Rizo having to go out exact same way once again. He was still annoying, but not nearly as much as he was in season 49 I thought. Not at all surprised Cirie got the Sia award. Even though I wanted to see Christian win it, I don't think there's anyone more deserving of it than her really. Only thing that stopped her probably from being the winner was Ozzy getting taken out when he was separated from her and that she made a bit of a poor choice in picking Rizo to be her other close ally.

I thought Jonathan did okay, but a lot of the moves he was taking credit for I still felt wouldn't have been possible without Cirie who was the one actually pulling the strings much of the time while letting others like him think it was all their idea. I would have liked to have seen Joe win, but he pretty much admitted he wasn't really driving any of the moves being made, so he didn't really have much of an argument for why anyone should vote for him as the winner, and as to be expected no one did.

All in all, great season. I think it lived up to my expectations at least. Now to start looking forward to Survivor 100 I guess. LOL Kind of doubtful I may live to see that, but doesn't hurt to dream anyway.

Watched the Late Show finale. I've been watching for the last year or so actually ever since I heard it was being canceled. I've seen some mixed reviews, with some people disappointed Colbert decided to go out doing a more or less normal show that didn't mention you know who much at all. I'm really glad they chose to do that though and thought it was more or less perfect send-off. Just frickin criminal CBS canceling him. Really hope he winds up getting a show somewhere else soon and makes them regret their decision to be such stooges.

Never got around to it but I watched the Survivor finale last week on Wednesday.

Spoiler

To be honest before the season started I had already seen a spoiler online that Aubry won the season.

Even without that though I would have figured out that she won from the edit she got.  I never watched the end of

last season so I didn't know that Rizo didn't make the final three and got 4th because he couldn't make fire.

Well history repeated itself.  It was nice of Joe to help him make fire.  I liked Joe a lot more after that.

I wish Rizo didn't make the jury though and had got voted out sooner.  Maybe around the time that Charlie did.

It would have been a better season if Charlie and his tribe could have voted out Rizo early on.  I still say Charlie is awesome

and even though I don't watch Mike White's show, I'm glad Charlie will have a cameo on it.  I'm happy Aubry won but I hate her

method of bringing along a goat to the end and taking someone close to the end that the jury (and myself) hated Rizo.

Gotta admit I don't have much hope for season 51.  The promo for it already looks boring.

Finally got through the two seasons of the original Twin Peaks series, and wowie. I thought the first season ended on a tremendous cliffhanger, but I can only imagine how that season 2 ending must have dropped on the fans of the show back when it originally aired some 30 plus years ago. I admit I was pretty confused by it, but after watching one of the behind the scene extras it helped to realize they were planning on a third season before it got cancelled by the network for falling ratings.

What was most interesting I thought though was that the creators really didn't want to solve the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer, but were basically forced to do so by the network executives. The creators though seemingly rightfully understood that the mystery was driving a lot of the interest in the show and revealing who did it could spoil all of that. Thusly they held off doing it as long as they possibly could it sounds like, even going so far as to film scenes with three different actors being revealed as the killer, to try and keep it a secret from even the cast and crew until the last possible moment when the episode aired so nothing could leak out. Crazy.

Anyway, a very deceptive show I gotta say. It begins being very grounded, but gradually the weirdness just builds and builds until it's pretty out there, especially for a show made back at the beginning of the 90s. Really looking forward now to watching season 3 and seeing how they were able to pick up and continue everything some 25 years later.
