Or at all? There is literally no function for an absolute or constitutional monarch in our current system, or, in fact, through most of the industrial world. If you're worried about a one person gaining absolute power, there are other avenues that actually exist within a republican system where a political strongman can consolidate power. Even in banana republics, strongmen who gain power through military might (kings were derivative of prestate warlords) rarely crown themselves as monarchs because political systems are no longer built around a centralized position.

Not really. I mean, monarchists would be one of many fringe groups that don't have any political impact because of the incompatibility of their political beliefs with reality.

It’s fair to say Zoomers are dealing with unique challenges because they are, it’s just not necessarily worse than the challenges previous generations faced. The point isn’t to minimize what they’re experiencing as much as to refute the key point that Zoomers have an inscrutable sense of humor. Joking about 9/11 isn’t a bad thing as long as the jokes aren’t designed to belittle the feelings that came out of that tragedy. I’ll admit I laughed when my Twitter feed popped up a picture of Mickey on his steamboat heading toward the Twin Towers. By all accounts it’s offensive ( can’t find it now) and someone who lost someone there may not process it, but as someone who experienced the national trauma of the event I can find the humor in perspective.

Every generation thinks that. With the exception of Boomers who were born into a post war recovery, every previous and subsequent generation has dealt with a gradual erosion of their ideals. The NFL keeps thinking they’ve addressed all the criticism about biased officiating, then something like this happens. Maybe there is an asshole creating chaos just to see shit burn, because if there is, he’s succeeding. Only an absolute fucking idiot would think one player was reporting for another player and then thinks they lined up wrong, and yet he somehow became a NFL referee.

Dark humor is relative to the trauma experienced; it’s not so much about laughing at someone else’s pain as much as it is giving an apocalyptic event an external perspective.
