And blatant illegality aside, it kind of represented the original promise that streaming had, the idea of one single place where you could find literally anything you wanted to watch. Compare it to the reality, which is like two dozen options of varying size and financial commitment, half of which you may not even realize exist. Hell, I didn't know until yesterday that Viz is hosting a bunch of their series completely for free in both English and Japanese on their own site. And I'm a pretty big nerd, so what chance do more casual viewers have to find this shit?

They'll have 6 or 7 episodes dubbed at the bare minimum by the time the series starts airing, and the usual break the block takes around the holidays will give them even more leeway. What happened with MHA was literally the worst-case scenario, hitting right at the very beginning of the pandemic when FUNi was still scrambling to figure out how all of this could possibly work. And if they have to take the occasional week off, who really gives a shit?

...because that's when they're starting to air it? And if they have to delay it a bit somewhere in the middle, they will? Like, what is your major malfunction about accepting that hey, shit happens, and we may get reruns at some point to give them some extra time. It's not the end of the world. Deal with it.

20 years' worth of block and we finally get Warner's animated stuff on here. I love (the complete lack of) corporate synergy! Honestly I'm pretty stoked about this. Gotham Knight was fun enough for a not-quite-as-good Animatrix sort of thing, and I know The Dark Knight Returns was supposed to be fantastic.

Bebop was absolutely successful in Japan from its sales figures and general popularity. It's a stupid long-standing myth that it "failed" there simply because it wasn't the generational phenomenon it was in the English-speaking world. Likewise, I have no reason to believe that FLCL wasn't also successful, given that it was made by a super-popular studio at the height of their talents. It was still getting figurine merch as of a few years ago, and failed properties don't get that 15 years after their release.
