There are many people who aren't numb to the danger but are outright ignoring it like it isn't a big deal because it hasn't hit close enough to home. Many people still see this as the government overreacting and attempting to strip away people's personal freedoms. And it really stems from this idea of American "individualism." They will finally realize the severity this month from the death rate, and I suppose people will become numb in the sense of the saying "one death is a tragedy; a milllion is a statistic."
